Rating: Summary: Is this UT2K4 the CD or DVD Version??? Review: If you look closely (click on the thumbnail) at the front boxshot that Amazon shows, it is printed | PC DVD-ROM Software | on the bottom left hand corner. What??? I do not get what is going on, I thought this version does not support DVD-ROM and is the regular CD version. On the other hand, if you visit www.newegg.com and look at the UT2K4 box shot thumbnail pic, it is printed | PC CD-ROM Software|. Could this be a box mis-print/mix up? Can someone please help verify to clear up this confusion? Thanks. P.S. This is a great game!
Rating: Summary: Unreal....... Review: What sets this game apart from the rest is the eye candy....or amazing graphics most would say. There are at least 90 different areas/leves/arenas in the various game modes, and the graphics are stunning. Even with my $50 Geforce FX5200 card I can run this game on 1024x768 resolution, and it works flawlessly. I have not even seen all the levels yet and Ive had the game over a week. To add to that there are already 2 more "Onslaught" areas free to add-on (small patch from their site), which are the larger, expansive levels....A real neat feature is before you start your game, you can load the level, and "roam" the camera around the open area to check it all out before you play. Sort of like a free flight, with the music which is sometimes relaxing in the begining, it is a great contrast to the familiar meyham that will occur once you begin!! Its a must-buy game if your into 1st person shooters, or if you have an appriciation for amazing graphics...:).
Rating: Summary: Unreal Tournament 2004 Review: Unreal Tournament 2004 is exactly how i wanted Ut2003 to be like. It is by far the best release of the year and one of the best games ever made. It runs silk smooth on my system, Win98 SE, 2.4Ghz P4, 512mb ram and 256mb GeForceFX. UT2004 is much better than 2003 and even the orginal UT. This is the best online or offline multiplayer game ever made. A must buy for fps fans. 10 Stars to Ut2k4 and Three cheers to Epic.
Rating: Summary: Hands down the best PC game out there Review: Take it from a long time shooter game player. This game rocks! The best part is that most of the action takes place online. So if you don't have a highspeed connection I wouldn't recommend it for you. The graphics are incredable (better have a beefy machine to play this on). The game play is great and varied so you won't get easily bored. Take my word for it get it you'll really love it.
Rating: Summary: Back to the good stuff Review: As someone who was a major addict of the original UT, and somewhat put off by the 2003 edition, I have to say that I have found that chemistry again with UT 2004. For whatever reason, "it" is back, and this game recaptures a lot of the great fun of the original. While I personally thrilled to see the return of Assault, my favorite mode of gameplay, I must agree with many of the reviewers that Onslaught is the real star here. Onslaught provides for a long, agressive and surprisingly focused battle, which uses its vehicles well on the massive boards. In particular, the vehicle designs feel like a tremendous amount of refinement has been put into balancing their strengths, which was one of the things that truly brought a lot of fun into the original as well. This allows any person who is good enough with their favorite vehicle/weapon to excel, and that is really what makes these games fun. Unlike some games, where the person who got whatever weapon was the best could just devastate the world, UT2004 has created a setup which favors skill over resources as well as any game out there. Of course, Unreal is also known for its graphics, and UT2004 delivers here as well. Surprisingly smooth for the level of detail delivered, UT2004 is a treat to look at. Audio is basic and boomy, with the biggest change being the return of the original announcer's voice. The top end is VERY high, though. I own a fairly substantial 2.5 GHz P4, 512 MB RAM, and a ATI Radeon 9700 Pro, and find that the middle settings on most of the many, many adjustable graphical effects are the best for relatively skip-free gameplay. Which does bring us to the major weakness of the game: You need a fairly beefy system to play. While it certainly work surprisingly well on the minimum requirements, the 5.5 GB install is staggering, and the largest I have seen for ANY product, not just entertainment. With all of that data, load times for levels are gratingly long (sometimes in the 3-5 minute range for some of the really enormous Onslaught levels). But Epic also maintains the other leg of the Unreal tradition: user mods. UT has kept a massive fanbase that constantly produces a long stream of fun and creative levels to play, and UT2004 does nothing to discourage this. In fact, a lot of the new graphical features, and the vehicles, have thrown even more arrows in the quiver of the internet world. And speaking of which, the integration of Voice Over IP (VOIP) into the game is a major plus, especially in the popular and team-oriented Onslaught, Capture the Flag, Bombing Run, and Assault modes. Strategy and organization can be vastly improved with the ability to actually TALK to your mates. Given all of the above, I would give UT2004 five stars for gameplay and value (mainly because of the added value of the massive internet mod- and map-making community), but I have to take one away for the heavy requirements and long load times. But still something I see myself playing a lot, warts and all, because the multiplayer aspect is just too much fun, all over again.
Rating: Summary: About TIME!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Review: THIS GAME IS SWEET!I never played UT before exept UT2k3 demo. But this one blew me away. A the moment i did not care much for the game i did not see whats the big deal but now i DO. First of game developers payed huge amount of deatail to map detail like in scenarios and onslauaght maps nad deathmatch ALL MAPS looked well worked on. Single player is fun and dificulty adjustment is great. AI will be stupid if you want it to be or be your executioner if you want PICK ONE. ONline is fun to. This game actualy has build in mic use like CS and rest of HL series. Games should do this so i dont have to bother with ventrilo or other voice programs. Plus like one revier said this game is almost flaweless even at this point its not o buggy it dose not realy need a patch. Truly is one of the few good games that came out this yera or last. It was an enjoyable to play still is. I cant wait for upcoming mods. I am not very educated though cant make use of build in editor should have bought that specil edition set with videos on it.
Rating: Summary: More of the same Review: Take UT2003. Add some new skins and bots to go with them, many new levels, a few guns, a new game mode, vehicles, and reintroduce the Assault game mode from the original UT and you have UT2004. It's not very different from UT2003, at least when you compare the difference between them to the difference between UT and UT2004. I miss some things from the original UT like the ability to fully customize the bots' names, colours and skins but that function unfortunately hasn't made a reappearance for UT2004. If you liked UT and never got UT2003 like I did, get this one. If you own UT2003 and don't like it that much or are tired of it, UT2004 will not hold your attention as long as other games on the market simply because it is too similar to UT2003.
Rating: Summary: Nothing New Here Review: Game is exactly the same. Nothing new. Graphics moderately better but its really the same old thing. It really is intended simply to move you online to open play.
Rating: Summary: wow....................wow......................... Review: You know, I was getting really board with first person shooters. But UT2004 has reawakened my love of killing people. And it's not just a bunch of guns this time. You can kill people with Tanks, hovercrafts, dune buggies, fighter jets, humvees, air strikes and a what looks like a giant mars rover with a twenty story gun attached! Now that's fun! I wouldn't recommend this to people with social lives or responsibilities. This game can be very addicting. However, if you're like me with too much free time on your hands, definitely pick this up!
Rating: Summary: Endless ACTION Review: An expanded array of weapons, like the Lightning Gun, and the addition of "Adrenaline", adds to the excitement from the previous versions. New maps, and most of all, the new game types "Onslaught" and "Bombing Run" really are AWESOME. Onslaught-mode lets you drive or fly various vehicles around the map. The Leviathan is a dreadnought on wheels! And there's the tank, raptor, the scorpion... the list goes on! In "Bombing Run", the object is to carry a ball to the enemy base and score by either jumping through the goal, or throwing the ball through it, but you get more points if you jump through the goal with the ball. Kinda like Basketball or Football, with a few twists. One is that while you are the ball carrier, you cannot use any of your weapons, so you are vulnerable! You can pass the ball to your teammates too. But before you buy, be sure you have a powerful computer. ESPCIALLY in the memory (1 Gig is generally recommended) and graphics-card department. They will make or break your gaming experience, especially online. Also, you need some decent CPU cooling AND graphics card cooling as well. If your case cooling (airflow) is good enough, you keep all the fans dust-free, and don't get too overzealous with overclocking, you should be ok though. Online playing has been an awesome experience, but I strongly believe that is because I always have kept my computer fine-tuned and up-to-date with the latest drivers and firmware. Because of the demands this game can put on your computer, it actually led me to realize that my graphics card's fan had stopped working. AND, I had my wireless-G card right next to the graphics card. This basically left my graphics card with no airflow to cool it, and I had been experiencing crashes and lockups in UT2004. Ever since I moved the wireless card to another PCI slot away from my graphics card, UT2004 has been rock solid. I ordered a new fan yep, but even without the fan - no problems! If you experience a slow frame rate in some games, try faster graphics card memory (or more), if your card supports it, or faster(or more) system memory. Or, of course, turn down some of the detail setitngs in the game settings menus. Check out http://unrealtournament.com - and go to the forums for more technical help on play quality. Lots to read! Final analysis: BUY BUY! But buy a mouse wrist rest or gel-pad too! You don't wanna develop repetitive stress syndrome (mouse/tennis elbow)!
