Rating: Summary: What a great OS! Review: Funny, Stable and Microsoft together. Until I started using Windows 2000 Adv. Server, I didn't think that there was such a thing. Well, the next NT product is. Buyers beware though, it is very tough to find drivers for a lot of todays hardware. Also, this isn't a product for most consumers. It is a lot more difficult to navigate too. Once you get the hang of it though, it is pretty awesome. I particularly had trouble with getting my computer to view things on my lan and getting on the internet. But after a little tweaking and a lot of crossing my fingers, it is working quite flawlessly. Some changes that I appreciated are a hardware wizard and in the Add/Remove Programs it tells you how often a program is used. On the other hand, I didn't like the way that the Network and Network Properties pages are setup. Also, Dual Booting is quite easy to do now and the installation is pretty smooth also. Novices beware, but advanced user will enjoy it after they get all their hardware/drivers working.
Rating: Summary: All you NT 4.0 guys, go for 2000. Review: Windows 2000 is certainly not for 98 users. But for NT 4.0 guys, you should get 2000. And I guess the license is kinda cheap for 20.
Rating: Summary: NOT for win 98 users, but for NT users! Review: Windows 2000 is certainly not for 98 users. But for NT 4.0 guys, you should get 2000.
Rating: Summary: Windows 2000 Server : IIS5 and ADS are excellent Review: I have used IIS5 and ADSI for programming some tasks which were not possible with NT4. Adding users, creating their home dir and profiles programatically has become a lot easier. This has also meant easy remote administration to me. What I did not like is changing over to NTFS(5) means if I make my active partition NTFS(5), I can not multiboot. I also liked that inspite of built on NT technology Win2K server supports plug-and-play. Third party support is still low (Which I found when my LAN card was not found in HCL)
Rating: Summary: Gamers With Glee, Businesses With Stability Review: Do you like 3D gaming? Windows 2000 offers mind-blowing NT-style 3D rendering with the ease of installation and use of Windows 98. All I have to say is: Windows 2000 + Half-Life = Heart Attack. For businesses, Windows 2000 offers the file security and stability of NT; a lot less "Blue screen of Death".
