Rating: Summary: Why all the criticism? Review: I've seen lots of negative reviews of this product on Amazon, and I'm not sure why. This really is a better product than Windows 95 or 98. It boots up and shuts down FAR faster than 95 and 98. Other people claim that they have had to upgrade their software to work on ME (e.g., WinFax 10, Norton AntiVirus 2000 or 2001, etc.). This simply isn't true. I am running Office 97, WinFax 9, Norton AntiVirus 5, and lots of other old programs. I have not had to purchase a single new piece of software since I purchased my new machine that came with Windows ME. In fact, many of these older programs work better and faster on ME than they did with 95 and 98. We all know the crash problems that occurred often with 95 and 98; but, under ME my computer has not crashed a single time in 4 months of substantial use. Even some of my games run better under ME. Since I've run some games on ME, I have noticed new sounds and new effects that weren't evident before. Overall, Windows ME is a solid product. Don't let all the negative reviews dissuade you.
Rating: Summary: Ugh. Review: Well, let's start from the beginning. Microsoft wanted to get something out for the big "Millennium." So, they beefed up 98 with a few "prettier" functions, made things look a little different, packaged it off, and whoosh-an easy ten million. Now us, the people who rush out to buy the "new" Microsoft product and set it all up. Before you know it, everything's gone wrong. Your RIO doesn't work, your games aren't playing, and every time you try to fix it-something else goes wrong. Welcome to Windows ME. Ha. The only, possible way if you would use this is if this is your buisness-only computer because it's okay at formatting. But anyone that's a mediocre gamer, uses cameras, downloads games for palms, or does anything else except type. This not for you.
Rating: Summary: A Nice Improvement Review: I'm really not sure why other reviews of Windows Me haven't been so favourable. Sure its an intermediate OS between windows 98 and XP but its worth having. The improvements over 98 are the media player, the picture preview function in windows explorer, some visual improvements, and my favorite - the automatic internet connection which means you can put a copy of your dial-up programme in the start-up menu and it will connect straight away when you turn your computer on. Overall its pretty good actually and a significant improvement from windows 98 for the home user. I havent had any problems with blue screens or crashes like other users seem to have. Windows 98 was three years ago -- step into the new millenium :)
Rating: Summary: Only because I can see what is up next. Review: If I were just reviewing WinMe by itself, it would get about a 3 star rating, but since I have done a little research of what Windows XP is going to look like, I have to give it a 4, just so that people will but it instead of XP. From what I've seen of XP, it deserves a -10 stars.Sure, WinMe loads faster than previous versions, but that only means that the OS is loaded, it doesn't mean you can acctually use the computer. Factor in the time it takes for Windows to run all those programs that DOS used to run, and you will notice it acctually takes LONGER before you can use the computer than Win98.
Rating: Summary: Just about the worst software I've ever purchased Review: Well, lets just say that although I am a Microsoft fan, this piece of garbage should have stayed where it belongs, on the archived shelves of Bill Gates garage. Terrible, terrible, terrible!... Blue screens are much more evident, crashes, incompatability with many programs. Example:Winfax requires you pay for the 10.0 upgrade in order to keep faxing in ME. This is one of oh...., about 10 of these experiences. Love, Win95, love Win 98, etc, but ME, a waste of the consumers time. By the way, the interface and tasks are not much different than Win 98. What a waste. Stay away!... ....
Rating: Summary: This software is fine, but you'll do better to get XP Review: Windows ME is a fine product to get, but just around the corner (and maybe out by the time you read this) is Windows XP, which is a dramatically better product. If you are considering Windows ME as a long-term upgrade, I'd suggest you wait for the easier-to-use and more stable Windows XP product. The reviews for that product have been great, and the software is built on a more solid foundation. Finally, it should be noted that a number of the enhancements in Windows ME are already freely available at Microsoft's web site. These free items include Windows Media Player 7, Internet Explorer 5.5, and the latest Outlook Express. I'd recommend you consider downloading those items before paying the money for this operating system. Feel free to email me with any questions!
Rating: Summary: It's not even worth 1 star...... Review: This product is just a piece of junk. Believe me, it is not worth the money it takes to buy it. My computer came with this automatically installed. Our last computer had windows 95 and i wish this one came with it too. Yes, it was slow, but at least it worked!!!!
Rating: Summary: Faster and more stable than 98 Review: I have used all the Windows programs. I find Me to be much better than 98SE. I have yet to get the blue screen of death, which was a regular occurence in 98SE. The defragment program defragments my 20G disk in 1/10 of the time 98 took. This alone is a great feature. I have a Hebrew enabled verson and the help screen is now consistently in the language of my choice. This wasn't the case with 98. The only downside is installation of the enabled version was more complicated than previous versions. It took some time to tweek it so that it is running like I want it to. I have been using it for about a month and find it to be the best of the Windows editions.
Rating: Summary: MILLENIUM EDITION COMES WITH ALL THE BUGS Review: My dad just bought a 866Mhz PC with Windows Me on it. Within a month I had to reinstall Windows because the computer kept freezing up for no reason. Even now that I've reinstalled it, there are still problems. Certain programs freeze up. The computer doesn't always shutdown properly, causing me to turn it off manually. It takes two minutes from the time you fire the computer up before you can do anything. Of course, as Windows Me was part of a package, we didn't have to pay for it separately. But I wouldn't pay $5 for this "Operating System." I hope you know that the letters ME stand for: Malfunctioning Edition.
Rating: Summary: AWESOME PRODUCT!!! Review: Windows ME is an awesome product. Much easier to use, and many long and complex messages have been simplified. FAST startup time and allot more stable than previous operating systems. Can't wait for another great Microsoft product! (Windows XP)
