Rating: Summary: Windows ME is so bad that Microsoft already pulled it ! Review: What makes Windows ME so bad? for starters, The team of programmers that worked on it had no concept of memory management. Therefore, the operating system seems to crash at any given moment. On the other hand, my MAC owner friends have no problems with OS 10.2 Jaguar. Probably because Mr. Jobs was smart enough to base his system on UNIX. If only Bill Gates would see that a parent-child kernal like UNIX (developed thirty years ago!!!) is still more relieable than his over priced operating systems! oh yeah, and UNIX is FREE!!!
Rating: Summary: Basically Windows 98 with a facelift Review: Windows Millennium is an acceptable offering from Microsoft, even if it only slightly improves upon the previous version: Windows 98. Windows ME opts for a more colorful look, which is nice, but its stability as an operating system isn't the best in the business, and somewhat still in question.New users will notice the absence of the "system backup" feature found in previous versions of Windows (as well as DOS). Replacing it is the easier to use, though somewhat less effective "system restore" function. Simply clicking on a date when your computer was functioning properly.... And voila! You are up and running again. This did the trick most of the time, but it always seemed to cause problems with my antivirus software. It seems that rolling back time makes it hard for Norton's to find its virus definitions. Other than this flaw, everything else worked fine. Although not nearly as stable as Windows XP, Millennium uses quite a bit less of your computer's resources, so older PC's are more likely to run it without problems. In addition, it doesn't have the senseless feature Microsoft was "kind enough" to include in Windows XP... the one where you have to contact them to re-activate your operating system, every time you pop open your PC and perform and upgrade. Rating: Summary: Weakest Windows since 95. Review: I don't think this edition was worth releasing when the superior, more reliable Windows 2000 was being released in a matter of months. I used it for a period on someone's machine and the main thing I remember was that it wasn't very reliable, I remember it had problems recognising two separate CDR drives. Alot of the usual Windows options you'll find are gone aswell. It's OK, but if you have a new machine then go for XP or 2000, and if not use 98SE.
Rating: Summary: It's not great, but it will do Review: I just wanted to provide a balance to some of the other reviews below. I currently have two machines running ME. The first was an upgrade from Win-95 two years ago, and I've had little problems with it during that time. The installation was easy. Once I learned to stay away from the Active Desktop, and got a reference on setting up some of the maintenance tasks, using it has been easy (scheduling disk maintenance and such). Since then I've added additional RAM, a CD-R/W, two different printers and several large software packages (such as Front Page and JBuilder) without problems. I might also note that the upgrade solved several problems I was having with slow modem connections. Since upgrading to ME I've never had a problem with currupted anything on this machine. Last weekend I purchased and installed the full version on a second machine. For the last year I had been struggling with various versions of Linux on it, and after getting REALLY frustrated trying to establish a network connection between the two machines I got mad, ran over to BestBuy and purchased ME. Within 4 hours of buying it I was file sharing with the other machine. Now, I'm a programmer by trade, so I don't say it lightly that I was having trouble making Linux work for me as a home OS. I decided that I was spending far to much time trying to get Linux to work rather than using it to develope software, word processing, installing or upgrading packages and other tasks. I get paid for that at work. Windows ME might have its warts, and I wish it would support FrontPage's server features, but for $... you can get a couple of good references for getting around some of the more annoying ones. If you are using an earlier version of Windows, it is well worth the $... to upgrade. I decided NOT to upgrade to or use XP because of some of the many issues surrounding privacy and configuration some people have, which is why this last weekend I purchased the full version of ME instead of XP. It also helps to make sure you include all the patch updates from the MS web site, again a task made easy to do and automate in ME compared to earlier versions of Windows and just plain confusing in Red Hat Linux (I never knew if what I was 'patching' was anything I really needed or not, where as with ME the package updates are clear to read and understand).
Rating: Summary: Stay Away From ME! Review: I bought a brand new computer and it come with me installed on it and it has been a nightmare ever since. This system crashes all of the time or locks up and I am constantly turning it off at the surge strip because it has locked up and won't shut down. My husband and I bought some games to play and it locks up and won't even run the games. I have called to get technical support and they dont' have a clue and I have had it. Going to take it in and get xp installed and save my self the headache!
Rating: Summary: The Best OS ever! If you work with it! Review: This is one of my besy and favorite Operating System yet to come! Windows Millennium Edition is truly a consumer edtion of all Windows! Well...I bought a computer, that had Windows XP Home Edition on it already. But, I made a choice and put Millennium Edition on it. Windows Me not only comes with programs specially designed for Home Computing, it comes with faster start up times which I really like. I play all my music on Windows Me, and it never has a problem! My Pictures is a great new Document Folder! It comes with a program called "Windows Picture Viewer". But, I heard that some people were having problems with software. And I might just know what it is! If you have an internet connection, and first installed Windows Millennium Edition, and just did all the updates at onec, then there might be your problem! Windows Me isn't Windows 2000 code, it is still Win. 9x code! Which in Win.9x it is not a s stable. I waited at least a few days, then did them. Also, see if your hardware on what kind it is. Some hardware, such as some cameras might not work. Just always be sure to check with your Hardware Vendor and see if it's compadible. And, one more solution, just like I said with the updates, don't install you programs so fastly at one time! You Operating System could do better! So...conlusions are, Windows Me is great and recommend this Operating system for consumers! Just work with it, and have fun with it!
Rating: Summary: The Best OS ever! If you work with it! Review: Microsoft Windows Millennium Edition can be a great operating system program if you work with it! Well...I have a computer that came with Windows XP Home Edition, and I saw that I was more use to Windows Me, and put that on. Worked fine! All you need to do is work with it! I saw some other reviewers, and they came up with alot of problems. Here may be a solution, when you first start Windows Me, and have an internet connection, don't do the all updates at onec, and you shouldn't install your software so quickly, That causes problems, because I use to do that. I only installed my most used programs the first week, then moved on. Still works without any errors! Maybe, I have had one blue screen of death in the whole years that I have had Windows Me. Overall, it is great! Or if you want to buy Windows XP, then it includes all the features of Me, and reliablity of Windows 2000 Professional. Good luck if you're buying Windows Me!

Rating: Summary: Worst OS for game playing!! Review: I have to say that ME is the worst Operating System I've ever encountered. Blue screen after blue screen error is all I get every time I played games on it. I even blue screen errors when I'm not playing. I finally got fed up with and switched to XP. Much better OS than ME. Don't ever consider buying this. It's not a good idea.
