Summary: Adding HW or More than One Unit Forget XP
Review: The registration factor:The thing in Windows XP that you should take into consideration is the registration factor. In an attempt to make piracy more difficult, Microsoft has instituted a new registration policy called Microsoft Product Activation, which will only allow you to install Windows XP on one system at a time. U
under this new policy, you must use the CD Key code that comes with the software to install the operating system. You'll then have 30 days in which to contact Microsoft, either via the Internet or by telephone, and activate the software. When you do, you won't have to give Microsoft any personal information, just your CD Key code. Microsoft will assign you an activation code, which you'll then enter in the appropriate text box in the Microsoft Product Activation wizard. If you don't activate the software within the 30-day period, you won't be able to boot Windows XP past a dialog box that prompts you to enter activation code. When you enter the activation code, it supposedly analyzes your system's specific hardware configuration, generates hardware ID code based on this information, and then associates the activation code with this hardware ID code. If for some reason you have to reinstall Windows XP on the same system, you'll be able to use the same activation code. However, if you purchase an additional system and want to install Windows XP on your new system instead, you'll need to reactivate the software. While Microsoft says it's possible to install it on another machine, it's unclear how exactly this will work under its license agreement. Consumers should refer to the terms of their license agreement to determine whether or not it is legal to transfer a license to another computer. But in those cases where it is allowed, the product must first be removed from the previous computer. Users may be required to complete the activation on the new computer by placing a call to the Microsoft Activation Center. If you only have one PC and rarely reinstall the operating system, this really won't be a problem. However, if you have multiple PCs in your home, or you add Hardware later you won't be able to buy one copy of Windows XP and install it on all the PCs in your home. Instead, you'll need to buy one copy for each system. Unbelievable!!!

Review: i like it... glad i didn't have to pay for it. AWESOME OPERATING SYSTEM! THE DAY AFTER I INSTAL IT I FOUND OUT THERE WERE NOT ONE, NOT TWO, BUT THREE MAJOR BUGS! THANK YOU FOR THE NEW OS MICROSOFT!

Summary: could be better!
Review: XP is one of the worst investments I've made. It eats up memory badly, frustrating to install, and you have to reformat some of your currently loaded programs, and some of your programs may not even run again. I want '98 back. DEFINITELY NOT MADE FOR LAPTOPS! Plus, if you want assistance from Microsoft, you have to pay $... and it's hard to get assistance in the first place.

Review: its works and well. xp new all my drivers, and runs great. if you liked 2000, this is easy. however, the puffy colors can be annoying. if you have the memory and power. this is the os for you if you have a dsl line, that uses the ppoe dialer, this is your os

Summary: Windows XP does no Harm
Review: I don't know why all of these people say such negative comments about Microsoft XP. I mean I have to admit all these people scared me about upgrading this on my computer, but there was no reason. I just follwed the instructions and the setup took about 70 mintues. No biggie. The result was great, it's a fresher, faster and better new version of Microsoft. This product it definetly worth it. The only con that I did have though is that my printer isn't working and I have to get somebody out here to fix it. So forget the negative comments--use my and advice and don't be afraid to upgrade it on your computer.

Summary: Not as rosy as it looks!!
Review: I bought the upgrade thinking that they solved their previous bugs and I got disappointed. The way they do away with the crashes is this: it won't let you open more than a few windows at a time (in my case 5). also, I keep getting popping messages reminding me to check for updates and other junk (very annoying).
After I updated to quiet down the messages, I got a frozen window. I had to do the usual CRT ALT DEL and it worked, but the window didn't dissapeared from the desktop. It was broken into pieces in the background and there was no way to get rid of it. I have to say that it has nice colors and a airport woman voice in their 'tour'. The repeating subliminal (windows) messages are all over the place enough to drive me crazy. One of their messages should say: warning, remove all baseball bats from your room before use.

Summary: Hackers Break Through XP Security - Nation-wide
Review: After seeing the front page of my newspaper "Hackers Break Through XP Security", I have serious doubts about the quality of the repair patch Microsoft has released. Could it be rushed out to save embarrassment? Will it eliminate hacking? Can I trust it?
And what about the government's Back Door to the operating system?

Summary: Give me Linux
Review: After using XP for on week, I have decided to leave MS operating systems altogether. I know the learning curve on the Linux OS will be steep for me but I am willing to deal with that, rather than deal with MS, their bugged software, and their arrogance in taking for granted that all customers will copy their software. I don't like having to get their permission to add peripherals or to re-install the system. I say it's time for people to make a thoughtful decision to not depend on MS's arrogance any longer.

Summary: But It Doesn't Look Different
Review: Perhaps I've become so jaded that all Windows systems now look the same. I'm ashamed to say just what was the first version of Windows I used but I will go on record stating that I have owned Windows 95, 98, ME and now XP. As it is an Upgrade, I suppose that's why there is no significant difference once I get going. On the plus side however, there is a big improvement on starting up. It loads almost immediately. Negatives? Well, what you gain in booting up, you lose in logging off. It is the slowest process yet! And XP did not find either my PALM Pilot or my Iomega Zip drive although both have been attached to the computer since Windows 98. Is it different? No. It looks, feels and acts the same. Is it better? Well, it seems to me that Windows ME managed to get the crash bugs out of it so here's hoping that this version is just as reliable. But I wouldn't have noted this as a major improvement over previous versions so, if you're happy with 98, 2000 or ME, don't expect this to be the Promised Land.
