Summary: Update those drivers!!!
Review: For those who are complaining of freezes and other technological glitches with this program - just three words - UPDATE YOUR DRIVERS! This operating system is similar to all the others that came before it, YOU HAVE TO UPDATE YOUR DRIVERS! This will fix most of the problems I have viewed here. Most importantly Video Drivers. You must do this on your own as Microsoft will not do this for you and it won't happen on it's own.

Summary: I hate to admit it... They finally did it
Review: After years of crashing systems, a boring interface, and all around frustration, Microsoft somehow finally wrote a good OS. XP has done very well for me, and I am glad I purchased it. The software is more user friendly, there are many options and adjustments the user can make, and overall, XP is a great software experience. A bit pricy, but well worth it!

Summary: Windows XP Pro and Home
Review: I am somewhat suprised at the negative responses to this product. I have XP Pro on my desktop for about two months now. I have had absolutely no problems, even with some useful old software from Win 95 times. And I bought a new laptop (Dell) which came preinstalled with XP Home. It runs flawlessly. Again, I have put on some old programs that I like. I have yet to have a crash on either of these machines. I always hated Win 98 since on my desktop, and an old laptop, the machines frequently froze up and I received several times a day the nasty message "You have performed an illegal operation". I kept checking the door for the police to show up. The internet was always shutting down while I was working. I had to reinstall Win98 on both machines at least once a month. I was ready to go back to MAC. I have been using Personal Computers since before the IBM PC and always hated DOS and Windows. I spent many years with Mac at home, and DOS and Windows at work. But now I believe I might be sold on this one. I honestly believe the complainers are not seriously looking into what they are putting on their machines. If something does not work in the least bit, then by all means take it off before damage is caused. I have had about four OLD programs that XP did not like, and I can live without them. I immediately removed them completely and have had no problems. I had similar experiences with WIN98 and discarded the offending programs. I am extremely careful about what software I download from the internet. I am very cautious. My only complaint about any software would likely be the price, but I have no control over that. But I do carefully choose my vendors.

Review: Upgrading to XP has proven excrutiatingly painful. By the time I get used to this version and update all my drivers and programs, the next version will no doubt be released like a new strain of the plague. The law diminshing returns is upon us.

Review: I love XP,and it works so well for me.No bluescreens,no stop errors..nothing!
I installed it cleaning which you can do with the upgrade just like the full version.I must say I am one of the lucky few to get it to work in all but a few software titles and with all my hardware.I love the new Luna GUI,and Mediaplayer.XP runs all of my software reliably and if it doesn't it will still run well if a problem is found.XP is the OS my computer was waited for!
Alot of new hardware and software will work great with XP,as well as some software and hardware made for Win95.Now that I have XP I will never go back!

Summary: Completely blows 98SE away!
Review: I bought Windows XP at the recommendation of a friend. (I have a P3 800 MHz with 256 MB RAM). The installation went without a hitch, once I did some research and downloaded all the updated drivers. Now my computer was ready for XP, or so I thought. The only problem was XP wouldn't recognize my scanner or TV card. Not a problem. I bought I new (even better) scanner. I've yet to buy a TV card. I'm gonna wait and see if any new drivers are released first. So far, I've only had one crash on XP. Other than that, my system has been working even better than 98SE!

Summary: The Greatest Windows!
Review: Windows XP lets you name your computer, have 4 different accounts which you can vary, have the classic bar style or the new Windows XP style, different colors of bars, a favorites thingy which you can put anything on, a cool recycle bin, you can log off or just go to a different name, each account can vary there pictures, Music, Wallpaper, and even screen saver, there can be up to 4 accounts with a guest, it has 6 discs of cool XP software, and the #1 reason to get Windows XP is that you can download something if it only works on 1 kind of Windows, because it's like All Windows into one cool program!

Summary: Good operating system - not perfect though
Review: Overall I would have to give this a 7 out of 10 rating. The interface is attractive and easy to use, and it seems very stable.
The amount of features that interrupt you constantly is annoying to say the least. The computer is always bugging you to sign in to this and that and generally irritating you each time you connect to the internet.
I wanted to know how to backup my system recently. Well that was a mission in itself. I tried windows help - but that was useless. I tried microsoft's web site but that was a waste of time as well. I eventually found out how to load this feature after searching the net for 3 hours!!
As far as I am concerned the backup feature is one of the most important features in the operating system. Im sure amny users will agree with this.
So why does Microsoft feel it is necessary to hide this feature so deep in the CD ROM installation disk? Maybe they are trying to get users to but the more expensive "Pro" Edition when they eventually get tired of looking for this feature? I almost did.
For those who want to install this feature - here is the procedure. Dont go to microsoft for help or you will be wasting your time.
Hidden deep in the recesses of the Windows XP Home Edition CD lies the actual installation program that you need to put the Backup Utility on your computer. Simply insert the XP CD, and run NTBACKUP.MSI (it might look like just "Ntbackup") program from the folder D:\Valueadd\msft\ntbackup where D: is the letter of your CD drive. This will launch the Windows Backup Utility Installation Wizard, which will install the utility automatically. When it is finished, click "Finish."

Summary: I thought it couldn't get worse...
Review: Once again I am amazed at the horrible programming and lack of compatability provided by the [people] at Microsoft. For a company with the revenue and power to introduce another operating system before they have worked out the kinks, it blows my mind.
I purchased a new laptop with Windows Xp as the operating system, and I am lucky to have my computer lock up only twice a day. I am a computer programmer, and I cannot understand how 1.5 gig for an operating system would not cover any problem the could occur. Equally as annoying is the error messages that pop up and ask to be emailed to Microsoft.
Save your money on this product, they will have to be releasing an new version when they ...work on the problems. ***Be aware** Most companies warranties will not cover your system if you laod a new operating system on you computer.
