Rating: Summary: Good, but wait til its cheaper Review: Its a really good interface that many people will love. I have been using it ever since the first BETAS, and other than the bugs , it is actually really good. I especially love the home networking utility that is included. A must buy for first time windows users but if you have windows ME right now, I suggest just staying for a little while until the price drops a little.
Rating: Summary: WOW!!! Review: I'm currently running a BETA of Windows XP, build 2505. I'm writing the review on it right now and it's very impressive. Microsoft still has a few more bugs to work out but it's a very solid product. Some new features I like are that the clock automatically syncs up with the government's official time and the new "Luna" look to XP. I only give it 4 stars now because there are still some bugs but I'm confident that this will be a 5 star product in October.
Rating: Summary: WindowsXPRC1 Review: Being one of the many people who paid the $10.00 to try a beta O/S,I think XP is worth $10.00 and only $10.00. Where are the improvements? I see really nothing about this O/S to warrant an applause of any kind, just look beyond the facelift and count the REAL improvements, there are few. To charge a price higher for XP than the Millenium upgrade would be a real shame, along the same line as any other money hungry manufacturer of hypped up overpriced and over advertised ,SHELFWARE.Do I need XP?Do you need XP?If you think about it and research it you will likely find out you dont anymore than you needed Millenium Editon.Didnt every one just dig into their pockets last October for Millenium? Were you satisfied with it?Why should you be paying for another O/S not even 1 year later?Linux and BeOS (Personal Ed.)are both FREE and have just as good appearance, with all the applications an average person could likely ever use. Considering most people have purchased software that does all of the so called NEW things included in XP ,the least they could have done was to make it compatable with ALL win98 software and hardware, but i supose if they did that people wouldn't have to dig deep into their pockets to purchase new compatable components, for instance Norton Antivirus 2001 or a Vodoo2 1000 accelerator card isnt really THAT old i'm sure.In a nutshell XP is nothing more than M.E. with add ons that most people are already using and alot of those addons can be downloaded from the manufacturer FREE .Have you ever seen anything free from Micro$oft ?
Rating: Summary: Windows XP Review: Windows XP has been dubbed by Microsoft to be the biggest Windows release since Windows 95. Microsoft has hit the nail head on with that statement. Windows XP is also has some major improvements and features which is good and bad. Windows Product Activation (wpa) Windows Product Activation is a new feature Microsoft is adding to it's new line of Operation System XP. The idea in theory is that it will help cut down on software piracy. Windows XP will be like Shareware in that you have a certain amount of time to use it before you have to activate your copy with the company. The difference is, Microsoft has made the activation extremely difficult to bypass and will cut down on piracy. When you install XP you will be asked to activate, by clicking yes, it will send the Product key you used to install the software and check it in the database to see if its been used before and by another computer. If you buy a new computer you will have to get a new Product ID number from Microsoft. This part of Activation is a mistake because if your like me, I build my own computers and replace them every few months to a year or so which means I have to contact Microsoft everytime to get a new ID. LUNA Luna is the new interface in XP. The greenish Start Button and blue Taskbar have given XP a nicer and smoother look. If you don't like the colors then you are free to change them or use another theme. XP has better theme support and will allow you to fully customize your computer to the look you want. Another great feature about XP new interface is ability to customize folders in such a way you could of never done with the previous versions of Windows. For an example. If you have a folder full of pictures and your not sure which picture is which and you don't want to open them all up to find the one your looking for. All you have to do is: On your Tool bar is a view opinion. Select Thumnails. This will show all of your pictures in Thumnails preview. You can also group your pictures by name or by letters. Networking / Internet Security When it comes to Home or Work Networking, XP delivers a knockout. XP comes with some amazing tools to help you configure your network without using expensive programs on the internet. Just follow the step by step wizard and your done. When talking about a network theres nothing more important then security. Lets face it, since I got my high speed connection, I have been scanned at least 3 times a day by someone looking for an open port on my computer to connect to. Microsoft XP protects you from this by featuring a built in Firewall. The firewall for the most part works great. CLOSING THOUGHT I have also learned of a new feature that will be built in to XP. Its a video tutorial to help beginners and even the novice Windows user to maximize his or her computer. Theres no need to buy a book on XP. The books is included in the tour and why read boring pages when you can see a video showing you every step of the way. Microsoft is really out doing themeselves and I am looking forward to the final version of XP which is due to hit stores on Oct. 25.
Rating: Summary: A new era or Microsoft combined with Reliability Review: I have been evaluatin this item in Beta form for 3 months. It is rock solid and hasn't burped once. I have used it with: Tyan S1830 Motherboard, CPUs from PII 350 to PIII700, 192mb ram, 3 of the 4gb Seagate SCSI Hard Drives, LS120, Plextor 8/4/20 SCSI CDRW, Plextor 40 SCSI CDROM, ATI Rage Pro 32mb AGP and 3D VooDoo 2000 16mb AGP, multiple IDE drives, Rockwell Chipset Modem, USR Modem, Creative Labs ISA (OLD) SB16, Adapted 2940 PCI SCSI, a Multitude pf Printers and on a Network. It detected every hardware product so well it's how we identified hardware that we needed drivers for for other operating systems. I'm a Microsoft reseller and I wish I could buy stock in this product line...Best from Microsoft yet! I have seen a few other operating systems, microsoft and otherwise, that I would not rank nearly so well!
Rating: Summary: Windows XP Professional Review: I have been a freelance translator for the past 15 years; and as such, was forced to learn how to operate a computer at a rather advanced age. That was during 1990. I started with a plain little computer, no WYSIWYG. . .and I can't even remember what the operating system was, but it was, most assuredly built by Bill Gates and was not yet "Windows". I have FINALLY GRADUATED to this WONDERFUL version of Windows. . Windows XP Professional, the zenith of operating systems. I assure anyone who is reading this, that it is a most worthwhile investment. No more crashes. The computer even TELLS YOU when it has "indigestion". I love it. I cannot believe how good it is. I recommend it most heartily to everyone. You will certainly not be sorry once you load it on to your computer.
Rating: Summary: Turned my Dinosaur PC into a Performer Review: When I had Windows 98, my computer had a lot of problems. It was always stalling, it was unstable, and practically froze on me 2 times a day over an 8 hour usage. When I installed Windows XP the difference was completely noticeable. I stopped getting the stupid errors on the screen, and my computers functionality and power increased at least by 210%. Windows Xp has its downside though. It still has a compatibility problem with really old programs, (Try Nisus Missle Master 2.5 made back in 1992, for example). But who cares? All I've ever wanted is a computer that can go beyond its limits. Now, with Windows XP, your computer can pass every limit ever made.
Rating: Summary: Microsoft has done it again! A GREAT OS! Review: Many people look down at Microsoft soley because of their little "monopolizing" problem. I agree in some ways but hey, when a company makes as good products as these, you cannot complain. Ever since Windows 95 came out, Windows 98, SE, and Windows ME were all just based on the orginal taking out some minor flaws. For this, Microsoft completely re-wrote the code and all. This OS is very innovative and very easy to use. Installation was a breeze. Only down side was Product Activation which is a pain. But once you get past that, your down a smooth road. Windows XP is fully customizable which is so cool. The interface is very good looking. The OS is very stable unlike ME or 98. I rarely get errors now. Ending Tasks and Switching is easier and less complex then ever before. Reason I gave it a 4? The price is very steep and because of Product Activation, you will have to buy a copy for each computer you own in your house (I have three but I cannot imagine how bad it is for some people). All in all, this OS is a good investment for many computer users.
