Summary: Don't buy this yet
Review: This game, which looks sooo good from the box, doesn't run on my computer, or on a lot of computers, from the looks of the Myst III web site forum. There is some problem with Intel chipsets in video cards. The game won't start. We will wait for a "patch" to be developed, but the game will sit on the shelf until then.

Summary: Take your time and enjoy this unbelievable game
Review: I started really getting into games 20 years ago, when my son was 10 years old. I cannot recall all the games I have played. When I first Beta Tested Ultima and played it for two years, I new I was into a new area of games, than to Asheron Call 3D again what an advancement that was. I always like Strategy games and play all the Myst and The Long Journey Etc. But this game is definitely the next step. The sounds (use a head set to really grasp it all) and graphics have entered a new area. The game is playable as you can grasp what the puzzles are and what you need to do. Doing it is a comfortable challenge and takes skill and time, as you find your way around. I have only played it for two hours and the only problem I am having is instead of staying focus on the puzzle, I am so dazzled by other events, I have to stop and explorer. I usually see how fast I can do one of these games. Not this one, this 60-year-old man is going to take his time and enjoy this unbelievable game. Nice job guys & girls in making this one, when I found the rabbit I laughed out loud.

Summary: Absolutely Fabulous!
Review: I can't believe that the fools at this site don't like the MYST series! It's probably because they sat around trying to find out the deeper meaning of the game and couldn't decipher it! ha ha ha! MYST III: Exile is amaizing! I've already spent many hours on this game since I recieved it on Wednesday and I am completely hooked! I've already wandered the first four ages, but haven't had time to really get into the puzzles because I've been too fascinated by the graphics. If you haven't played a MYST game before, I suggest starting with the original MYST. A GREAT classic, no matter what anyone else tries to make you believe. I just ordered RealMyst to get a chance to see the new Rime Age. That would be the next one I would get if I was a beginner, that way you get used to the 3D feel. Then, there is Riven... Again, amaizing! If you have a DVD drive, get the DVD! One verses 6 discs....hmmm I would have to take the DVD! Back to Exile... If you have a newer computer, like me, they allow you to put the entire 4 discs onto your hard drive and then just put in the first disc for security reasons. Well, worth it for new computers! ENJOY!

Summary: Succeeds at being the most immersive...
Review: ...technically advanced installment in the myst series. I was a bit clumsy with active-panning feature at first, but it didn't take long to get used to, and it definately enhanced the gameplay. I personally didn't have any installation problems, but I'm running Exile on a Mac G4.

There are some parts where the live action segments are a bit blurred by the 360-pan feature, but I'd have to say that it is much more integrated into the than in myst or riven. The opening sequence right before you link to J'anin (or however you spell it) was an interesting surprise. Poor old atrus :) tee hee

Summary: Great game over too quickly
Review: It took us just over 12 hours to finish the game. We were really hoping for 30-40 hours, based on Myst and Riven.

The 360 degree 3D really is impressive, but (in my opinion) makes the game a bit dizzying at times, since the screen is virtually _always_ moving.

The graphics were beautiful, especially the Edanna world, which has to be the most interesting level I've ever played in any game.

All in all, it was a great experience... just wish it wasn't over so soon. (By way of comparison, N64's Banjo Tooie took us over 50 hours!)

Have fun!

Summary: Buyers Beware
Review: Myst 3 is no doubt a terrific game for the small number of people who have been able to circumvent the bugs. In addition to the problems mentioned in earlier reviews there is also a conflict with Myst 3 and many, many video cards. When one attempts to launch the game it performs an illegal operation and shuts down. Updating drivers, DirectX, and other suggestions do not work. Instead of playing Myst 3 I've been *working* on Myst 3 with no success.

The official Myst 3 site acknowledges this as a *known* problem and is at work on a patch. There is no date given as to when patches for any of the bugs will be released.

Buyer beware - it may not work on your computer until patches are released at some unspecified time in the future, if at all.

Please note that I've assigned One Star to this game only because No Stars or -Stars are not an option.

Summary: For those with NORMAL computers
Review: If you don't happen to have Windows 2000, or fifty different drive designation letters, then this game is a masterpiece. First of all, the cinema scenes are beautiful, with the most arfully crafted backgrounds I have ever seen. The 360 view gives you complete freedom from the slideshow prison, and adds so much more depth to the possiblity of puzzles. The puzzles will not make you want to turn your game into a frisbee like Riven. They are very challenging, but you don't need the strategy guide to complete it. All in all, though only having played for about four hours so far, a phenominal game.

Summary: Myst III Exile v1.0 is BUGGY!
Review: We had Myst III Exile on our wish list for months. When it arrived, it failed to run on ALL THREE computers in our house.

If you have an Intel Chipset, you will need a (currently unavailable) patch. If you have a NeoMagic chipset, you will need a (currently unavailable) patch. If you have Windows 2000, you are out of luck. Windows 2000 is not supported.

Summary: Incomplete program. Bugs Galore!
Review: Don't purchase it yet. I'm sure it will be great if and when they eventually get a patch/fix out for it. But right now It's only running on about 25% of the systems for which it is purchased.

Summary: Great game--haven't had any problems
Review: Just bought the game and am working slowly through it. It's very impressive in terms of game construction, and those (like me) appreciative of earlier Myst versions will like it. In contrast to other comments here, I haven't had any problems (yet), even though my machine seems to have similar specs to those who have (Dell with Win Me and both DVD and CD-R drives). Can't comment on how Exile would work on a slower machine, though (it works perfectly fine on my 1Ghz w/ hardware video acceleration). I did a full install of the 4 CDs, but note that the game requires disk 1 to be installed for copy protection. PERHAPS this is part the problem for some users (won't be the first time that copy protection causes problems for legit users). In sum, I'm enjoying the game and haven't had a single problem yet. I strongly recommend it, although based on others' comments, you might wait until bug fixes are posted online.
