Summary: How many more can you have?
Review: Let me start out by saying the graphics in this game are really incredible, but the thing that haunts this Myst and the other Myst's are that fact that they are to hard. I bought Riven or Myst II and quit after a few days. The puzzles just get to weird. The same applies for Myst III. There is so much stuff you could do with each puzzle and they are so weird that you can spend an eternity doing one puzzle. They made the Myst games so they can make people buy game guides for them so both companies are happy. I would have never beat Myst if I did not buy a book for it. Myst III screams out buy a book because it's so difficult.

Summary: It doesn't work
Review: Don't run out and buy this. If you have a vedio card made by Intel, SIS, MPact, Trident Blade , or Neo-Magic the game will not run. The patch is not ready yet(5/22/01). To find out what video card you have, bring up the START menu and select "run". Type In DXIAG in the windoe thet pops up and press OK. A window will pop up with a series of tabs near the top and have the title DirectXDiagnostic Tool written across the top. Click an the Display tab and look for the viedo cards name near the upper left under Name .

Summary: Solid so far -- but not spectacular
Review: Unlike many, I was able to load the game and have it run with no problems on a 333MHz Dell w/64MB of RAM. Two things I did a little differently--I downloaded ActiveX 8 from Microsoft and Quicktime from Apple, rather than the Exile CD, and I had room on my 18GB hard drive to put it all there.

Having recently re-played Myst and Riven, I feel the graphics in Riven were better than the ones in Exile (so far--that is, after hitting just two worlds). The colors in some places are slightly garish. I often feel like I'm looking at pictures, rather than being immersed in a landscape, as I did in Riven. And I find the guy playing the berserker saboteur to be completely unbelievable.

Still, the game has much to recommend it. It is, after all, the familiar Myst universe. The puzzles by and large are logical and solvable. The Quicktime movies mesh well. And while some of the scenery looks too much like a picture, there are other times when it all comes together perfectly. Is it worth buying? Assuming it loads and runs for you, then I would say "yes."

One caveat--the Collector edition had CDs, book and pewter Squee rattling around loose in the huge box. I would have hoped a "collector's edition" could have shown a lot more care in packaging and protecting its merchandise.

Enjoy!

Summary: To ease the confusion
Review: This game may not work for some... It doesn't work with certain chips. Download the patch so u and ur game can work...it's real cool game though!

Summary: Most enjoyable!
Review: Myst was stunning. Like most games that come along, it pushed the hardware and the envelope. The puzzles took some getting used to, but once you began to understand, it was great! Riven was beautiful, but the puzzles were much tougher than many people were willing to tolerate. I've heard countless stories of people who never finished Riven. Myst III:Exile is just right! It balances beauty, technology, and stimulating puzzles - all of which are somewhere in the reach of the vast majority of people playing the game. Myst III does run with the fewest problems on the Macintosh platform (although it does re-arrange my desktop icons sometimes.) The PC platform is a little more problematic... They seem to have done a good job for the first version of the program (it is, after all, difficult to accommodate all of the zillion-billion permutations of hardware and Windows operating systems.) I recommend the game highly if you enjoy a relaxed exploration of puzzles!

Summary: I wish they'd fix it.
Review: I wish i could say I was satisifed with this product, but I advise those of you that run HP computers, or any computer with an intel chipset to wait, because there is still a large bug problem with it. I'm sure the game will be very much worth waiting for, once they fix it, but even the company isn't sure when they'll get it fixed, they keep pushing the date back. So I don't say "Don't buy it" I say, wait till they get the patches out. . .and then buy it unless you're sure it'll run on your system.

Summary: Cross your fingers and hope you have the right components!
Review: I'm giving this just three stars because I have a copy sitting on my desk (a birthday present from my brother) that I haven't yet been able to play! Contrary to the listed requirements, you need a 32-bit video card (Voodoo 2/3 cards are only 16 bit) to take full advantage of the graphics, and it won't yet work on Intel chipsets. Apparently they are working on a patch, but don't expect it to be out until May 29th. I can't wait to play this game, having read great reviews of it, but you might be advised to hold off until all the patches are out before buying it, since if you are unlucky like me, you won't be able to play it until then anyway!

Update: Have played it (after 3 patches) and found it to be visually and audially (is that a word?) stunning, but not as long-lasting as Riven. It's a beautiful world, and the gameplay is interesting, but it doesn't have the real-life feel that Riven did, despite the better graphics and such. I'd say it's much closer to Myst in that regard. I'd still recommend it, but hope the next Myst game is more immersive.

Summary: Check for patches before purchasing
Review: I strongly suggest waiting until UbiSoft releases more patches. I recently purchased this game and still cannot run it. This game will not run with Intel chipsets, it will not run with a number of 3D cards. According to people that have been able to play the game, there are numerous other bugs in this game as well. I am looking forward to playing this game. The people that haven't experienced problems say that it is fantastic -- what I would expect from the Myst series. However, I recommend waiting to purchase until patches are released that address the most horrendous bugs. The following urls are good places to look for information.

Summary: Great Game
Review: Myst 3:Exile has lived upto its name. I just finished the game... had Great fun. The Graphics and supereb, it was a great experiance... especially with my lights turned off and turning on my sound to full volume. The new 360' look around attribute of the game is really cool. I am a big fan of the myst series. For the first time I was able to Finish one of the myst (this one) with out any help... "man it felt great!". I would recomand this game to any one who is looking to have some fun.
