Summary: Myst 3 unplayable, Performance Issues
Review: Audio may be choppy when run from CD. The full install helps, but requires 2GB+ of hard drive space.The publisher provides lousy support to Mac users, online updates are for the PC only. I received a defective Disk 3 (of 4) so not even the full install will work. It is going to take some time to get a response from the publisher. Despite having been released by the publisher, there are many unresolved issues. Wait until Myst 3 is out of "beta"

Review: I played Myst, the first edition on my Mac and was fascinated: with half a brain and some technical talent you can find the solutions to all problems. It totally absorbed me to the point that I had withdrawal symptoms when I finished. I even bought the Myst screensaver. Riven really put me down a notch. The solutions were not at all evident and some a little devious. I could not have finished it without some hints from a website, but the visual and sound effects were somewhat better than in Myst. I looked forward impatiently to Myst3-Exile, eagerly reading all the pre-publication hype. This game is a mixed bag: The images are very good , the sound did not impress me.I completed J'Nanin in reasonable time.Some solutions were or should have been obvious, but others I do not know how I would have found without help.So I managed to get to the starting points for the three other islands. In Voltaic the first problems began: In several places the manipulation by the cursor turned into a hand, do not work. I had to restart from earlier points many times.and now am stuck for good in one place. There is not enough room to save all the positions you want. Often the Mac arrow-shaped system cursor appears in addition to the game cursor and requires some switching back and forth to get rid of. From an exciting entertainment it has suddenly become a chore and I would return it if I could. But let's see what the tech support has to say after the holiday. I read on the players' website that some people with Windows have even more trouble. Obviously the need to complete and ship out has cut into testing time.

Summary: You've got to play this--it's the BEST!
Review: This game is superb! We are about halfway through I'd guess, and we are enthralled, charmed, and delighted. We have had no technical problems at all. The puzzles are just right. And the pay-off for "solving a world" is outstanding. My husband and I sat there with our jaws agape, mouthing "Wooowwwww," like a kid watching fireworks for the first time, as we finished one of the worlds. This is a MUST HAVE for anyone who likes this type of game. Nothing but "Obsidian" comes close.

Review: AFTER TRYING UNSUCCESSFULLY TO GET THIS DANG THING TO LOAD I TOOK THE DISCS OUT BACK AND USED 'EM FER TARGET PRACTICE. SEEING THEM SHATTER INTO HUNDREDS OF PIECES DID FINALLY PUT A SMILE ON THIS 'OL FACE. DON'T BUY IT.

Review: Exile works just fine on my Dell XPS R450 Intel Pentium II with a 16mb STB nVidia TNT video. The game loaded flawlessly and I have enjoyed the game play and graphics. Any true Myst fan will enjoy Exile.

Summary: Brilliant addition to the MYST legacy...
Review: Who is the mysterious (MYST, get it?) thief that has stolen the linking book to Releeshan? All those people in the Age of Releeshan will be lost at the hands of a madman if you fail to recover the book and return it to Atrus. Absolutely gorgeous Ages, now enhanced by true 360 degree viewing movement make this edition to the series the best yet. Larger and more difficult than MYST, but not as frustratingly impossible as RIVEN, Exile is a smart and savvy journey into the stunning Ages and pages of the linking books. Full of brain teasers and clever puzzles, Exile is perfection in and of itself, and is highly recommended for the "I love Jeopardy" crowd, as opposed to those that think "Wheel of Fortune is toooo haaaard". Lost alot of sleep playing this game! You will be thinking of solutions to puzzels at work, school, and as you lie in bed at night trying to fall asleep (while in the distance, you can hear Exile calling you back to the computer to play for "just 15 more minutes..."). Highly, highly, highly recommended!!

Summary: Doesn't work with Mac
Review: I loved MIST & RIVEN and couldn't get MYST III fast enough. After years in the software business I should have known better than to purchase version 1.0. If you have a MAC, I suggest you wait several months, years? until Ubisoft corrects all of their problems. For now, I am stuck with a game that is unplayable due to visable grid lines, very jumpy mouse control and choppy speech. Ubisoft answered my email saying that they will get back to me in 24 hours. That was 10 days ago and I am still waiting. I hope ... will return my money.

Summary: Myst III Exile is Awesome!
Review: I've just started playing MYST III and it is a great game. The visuals are awesome. I'm using a Dell 850 with 512 meg of RAM and a TNT card with 32 meg of video RAM and it works flawlessly. The 3D effect is great and it is visually beautiful. One other great feature is that you can load all four CD's on your hard drive (if you have a couple of Gigs handy!)for seamless action. Not an adventure game, but still a great way to spend a rainy Memorial Day Weekend!

Summary: Nice, but Flawed
Review: Much of what was lovely in Riven and Myst is still here, but in my opinion they made some bad choices and did not do adequate testing before release. Most of my issues are related to playability: Myst III's performance on computers that are not new, AND with a primo video card is going to be disappointing. The list of video cards for which the hardware mode will work is fairly short. The list does not include voodoo 2 or 3. Everyone else will be playing using "software emulation" which is painful on anything less than a fairly new system. Second: For some reason the people who made this software don't get that windows is a multi-tasking environment. The game becomes confused and cannot recover if you alt-tab away while it is open. This is _very_ annoying to anyone who is used to working with multiple applications open in windows, moving smoothly between icq, notepad, calculator, incoming faxes, schedule reminder pop-ups, or the like. The idea that you lose your game (and your progress) when you perform what is for many people a normal instinctive act in the windows environment, well, it's pretty sad. My third issue with the game may sound a bit funny, but I'm not joking: Myst III makes me sick. I, and at least two other people that I know of, have to flee the game periodically because we become nauseated after playing for a while. This seems to be related to the animated 3d sequences, and occurs in situations where attempting to solve a puzzle may lead to viewing the 3d sequence several times over. So there you are: I'm playing Myst III, but I'm not enjoying it as much as Myst I. My roomate purchased this copy. If I had purchased it I would have returned it.
