Review: ...is the only word I have for you, my friend. If you don't know by now, then I don't know what to tell you. Well, here's a start: This game should be a requirement for any academic program. That's right. It is an immaculate learning tool for anyone. It is the new "chess" for the millenium. You MUST have this game. The mere slightest bit of indulgance of the game will open new realms of your mind that you were unaware of. Your thought processing capability will be greatly enhanced. You will be forever changed. I guarantee it. Get the GAME! -Nuff Said.

Summary: Poetry in Interactive Motion
Review: You will come to understand that video games are an artform when you start playing Starcraft. First, you'll find a story which masterfully weaves between 3 different races in grand, interstellar conflict, with a cast of hundreds. This story comes to you in movies, in briefings, and in the game itself, such that you actually play the story, and react against it (or drive it forward). I've played this game from start to finish 4 times now, just to relive the amazing tale. But Starcraft is a strategy game, and its strategy is so deep you could spend years exploring it (and people -have- been playing this game for years!) The three different races play in different styles. The Zerg "grow" their bases and attack in overwhelming numbers, winning thru overkill. The noble Protoss conjure their buildings out of thin air, and their armies are often small, very tough, and invisible. The Terrans are the happy medium, with a little bit of everything. Also of note are the wonderful graphics (still potent after 3-4 years), and of course, that biting Blizzard humor, which shows itself in the peculiar comments that your soldiers make. There is so much polish and shine on this game, it's no wonder it was a best seller for years and years. This package includes the orginal game Starcraft and its rather weak expansion pack, Brood War. All the lavish praise I gave above was for Starcraft, but if you want to save some money, you can probably do without Brood War, as it only includes about 6 new units, which hardly changes the way the game plays. Get it if you starve for the extra story that it provides.

Summary: Subliminal Messages from Blizzard
Review: SC and BW are both great games, however many people do not know the literary background that these two games have. After playing this game for several years and spending much of my time at school, I came to realize that Blizzard makes many allusions to educational facts. For example, if you have ever taken Economics then you might have heard something called the "Law of Diminishing Demands". The way my teacher explained it is that when there is work to be done there is always an optimal number of workers. If there are too many workers then there might not be enough work for everyone or people might just be standing around. If you have ever played the game then you would might realize how that ties into the workers(SCV, Probe, Drone) in the game. If there are too many, some of them will be standing around; if there are too little then not enough work is getting done. That's the golden rule in SC with expert players: keep many workers around just not too much. Another observation that I have noticed is that some of the special characters have interesting names. In the map editor you might notice the special characters in the "Heroes" drop down list. There is a Firebat named "Gui Montang". Ask your English teacher if that name rings a bell. Hopefully it will. Otherwise you might have a problem on your hands. The "Hero" Science Vessel is named Magellan. I believe that Magellan was one of the men the either travelled or tried to travel around the world. Either way he was an explorer, and the Science Vessel even remarks "Explorer reporting". The "Hero" Overlord is named Yggdrasil: a norse mythological tree that held heaven, earth, and hell together. To me this is very interesting. I have seen things like this in many other games. I guess this is the industries way of brain washing us into smarter people...

Summary: There can be only one!
Review: This is the best real time strategy game ever! The really cool thing is that this game is all about skills and doing the right thing (unit controlling). This is not a Westwood pump out all the units you can and win the game! This is all about passion and strategy. Actually, if you do your stuff right, a small army can kick a large army`s butt with the right moves. I love Blizzard, and can`t wait for Warcraft III. I count days and weeks and years and hopefully the game will be out before I get mad hehe. Best regards

Summary: GREAT GAME
Review: STarcraft and Broodwar are great games. It comes with both the strategy guides and starcraft and the expansion, Brood War. The Strategy guides our very well detailed and explained so if you have trouble with any mission they will help you.
The single Player mode includes three races, Terren, Protoss, and Zerg. Each has its own special abilities and different units.
Each campain has about 8 missions and ends with a great video. The briefings and storyline is one of the best parts of this game. However actually playing is whats good. You have to gather ore and gas to build and create structures and units. THe multiplayer is the best part because of the varying different maps and opponets. This game is sure to be good for anyone 9 and up depending on how used to the computer they are. Starcraft requires you to be moving alot with the mouse.

Summary: Red Alert 2 is much more fun to play
Review: Starcraft is a good game, but red alert and red alert 2 are much better. I have red alert on my old machine and i tried to put starcraft on it but it is so bad it lags offline and in missions. I wouldn't spend my money on it, so if you really want it get someone to burn it for you because virtuallly every teen has it. getting it burned isn' teven hard, as there are cd key generators online that will allow you to play on bnet. the graphics are a bit better than red alert, but the gameplay is the real difference. westwood games are just more fun.

Summary: A Parent's Review
Review: We started out buying the simpler Starcraft game, but discovered that this one is much more complete, with more options for just $10 more-- well worth the difference. I don't play video games. I'm reviewing this as a parent of 12 and 18 year old sons. I've observed countless games. My just-turning 12 son first encountered Starcraft this summer at overnight camp. When we came to visit, the game was one of the first things he wanted to show us, not the water activities, skateboard park, recording studio, craft areas, playing fields, etc. He was already hooked on it. I found the game to be intellectually stimulating and challenging, requiring planning and learning of strategies, rather than these shoot-em-up as you go through a maze games that seem so prevalent. There is combat, but it is not one human smashing or killing another. It involves battle cruisers and other weapons generally. Also, it is an on-line game that can involve playing other real, live players, or a computer opponent or both. it is not uncommon for my son to be on-line using one phone line and on the phone with his friend who is playing on-line in the same game from his house. The point is, the game encourages him to learn to play cooperatively, to build team cohesion and maintain alliances, since anyone can un-ally and then attack a former ally any time. I'd give this a five rating if it weren't for the fact that it is SOOO addicting. I have a hard time getting my younger son to do anything else since he got Battle Chest for Christmas. Also, there have been one or two times when some of the kids on-line who were playing my son used very foul language. I'm no prude, but I didn't see the need for my, at the time, 11 year old son to be exposed to such crudities. I complained to the company and their reply was this was aimed at older kids in their teens. This is a liability, since the game is easily handled by kids under 13 who are bright. It would be nice to create a gaming zone for that age which would protect them from older teens almost natural proclivity for "testing the limits" of the language. The bottom line is this is a game which is intellectually stimulating, rather than some of the mind numbing ones out there, but some supervision of the chat on the on-line version may be necessary.

Summary: A great Stratagy Game Especially if you are into sci-fi
Review: Following the footsteps of Warcraft, Blizzard went on to a space era and created Starcraft. However withen a year the story line grew boring and the Expansion pack: Brood War made its debut. The original Starcraft begins in a time where Earth is "cleansed and the outcasts (*computer hackers, people of other religious faiths, criminals etc*) have been sent on an experiment to test high-speed space travel. The Experiment goes wrong and the outcasts crash on the worlds of Tarsonis, Umoja, and Moria. After years of settlement the Humans (*Terrans*) create the Confederacy and their technology eventually allows them to control other worlds. It is when another species-created by the Xel'Naga-Zerg arrives in the Terran space to take over the humans that the story of the game begins. The Zerg secretly populate the worls and another race: Protoss-also created by the mysterious Xel'Naga decimates the world inhabited by the Zergs, and human colonists alike. This action, which was the only way to save humanity alarmed the confederacy and the Terrans go to war with the Protoss, and later on the Zerg. Starcraft follows most stratagy-game platforms. The scenarios are both challenging, and at the same time lesson-learning. The computer in the first levels "teaches" the player how to use such tactics as the Terran Vulture Cavalry, or the Marine invasion. Another thing that makes this game a good buy is the play as either Terran, Zerg, or Protoss... and even better: all three are different! Thats right, all three are different, different strengths (*Terran is good at both air/ground, Protoss at Air and Zerg at ground*), and weaknesses. The units all are greatly detailed and the photo of the unit's pilot/unit is animated and humorous (*after a few clicks on them to annoy them lol*). Some examples of units include: Terran: SCV's Marine, Firebat, Vulture hover cycle, Arclite Siege Tanks, Goliath Walkers, CF/A-17 Wraith Fighters, Explorer Science Vessels, and Behemoth Battlecruisers
Protoss: Probe, Zealot, Dragoon, Reaver, Templars (*Dark and high*), Scouts, Arbiters, and Carriers
Zerg: Drone, Zerglings, Hydralisks, Mutalisks, UIltralisks, Infested Terrans, Overlords, and other creatures. Brood war is better in a sense. I suggest Brood War as a buy NOT RIGHT AWAY, but later on when you get used to Starcraft. Brood war follows the events of the original game, only 10 years in the future when another agency; the UED from Earth (*United Earth Directorate*) attempts to overpower the new government in the Terran Sector with new weapons of war. These new weapons are the Medic (*very handy*), and the Valkyarie (*needed*). However like I stated earlier, do not play this part of the game right away since Brood war has no tutorial to game play, or no guide on stratagies. It is basically made for those who have played and mastered the original. In addition to the Terran Medic and Valyrie, the other new units are: Protoss Corsair, Dark Archon. Zerg Lurker, Devourer. So if you ever wondered, what else is there out there besides us, or just want to kick alien butt, this is the game to get. Playable on different worlds including: Badlands, Jungle, Ice, Desert, Twilight, and Ashworlds (*fire*). Tired of playing by yourself? Dont worry, Battle.net is free and challenging and is also included, you could play games with up to 8 people from around the world this way. All you need is an internet connection. And with over 100 maps and small missions, playing by-yourself isn't that boring. But if it gets to that point, no worries still. Campaign Editor allows you to create your own map, and program the computer player's movements simply with Trigger language that even the average-day computer iliterate could understand. Getting this game will make you wonder when it is all done, when is Starcraft II comming out. More information on the plot, the story-line and/or characters? Play this game and find out.
