Summary: Jaguar - It's time to familiarize yourself with OS X
Review: I've used OS X since the Public Beta and can remember feeling a bit anxious when I first saw how differently things were arranged. I was concerned that the Mac experience was about to be irreparably altered. As it turns out, each revision to this OS has improved on the original theme, and with "Jaguar" OS X 10.2 I find myself a confirmed OS X user! I'm in OS X 100% of the time - returning to OS 9 has become an uncomfortable and disorienting experience (I would've never thought it could happen).

While it is true that the best experience will come with updated hardware and software, I have found that most recent products are well supported in the "Classic" environment. And when updated products are used their application is seamless: true multi-tasking, Plug and Play, exceptional USB and Firewire support, Blue Tooth and 802.11b wireless networking ready. A few of your applications may need to be upgraded, but while you're in the process, you can enjoy the wonderful series of free "i" applications that Apple has included: iMovie, iPhoto, iTunes, iChat and iDVD, (included with a "Super Drive" enabled Macintosh).

Ultimately, I believe the revised user interface and robust UNIX core of Jaguar will win over even the die-hard Classic Mac stragglers, as well as entice many Windows and UNIX aficionados to explore Apple's offerings. And, although you may find the first couple of weeks a bit disorienting, I'm sure that with time OS X will become your preferred operating system - you'll find yourself looking for ways to spend less time in Classic and more time OS X.

Summary: Pretty amazing
Review: I can't even believe how much faster this boots. After the hardward tests on my Dual G4, it boots in 9 seconds to the desktop. Compare that to what, 2 minutes for Windows? or about 1 minute with 10.1??

Once running, the speed continues. It's really fast, every bit as stable as before, and I love the new features. Just the upgrades to Mail, Address Book, and sherlock alone are worth the upgrade price.

All in all, a great deal. I'm putting it on all my Macs.

Summary: Amazing
Review: I, too, have been a loyal mac user for 17 years, and I can honestly say that this is the best OS I've ever used. I do hard-core graphics work, and the difference between OS 9 and OS X is like night and day. I have ten programs open at once (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Word, Mail, Entourage, etc. etc. etc.) and this OS simply will not crash. I give it lots of speed (modern Macs) and RAM (1 GB +) but who wouldn't? This runs like a dream. It's installed on all the Macs we have. Highly recommended.

Summary: still not a full functioning os
Review: i've been a loyal mac user for almost 17 years. this one is a major disapointment. there's almost no control over this os. you just can't customize it. it's slow, a lot of my peripherals still won't talk to it. there's still tons of missing software that make it just plain impractical. it costs a lot to update all the old software, yet there's no added functionalitiy. as far as i can tell, it does nothing that os 9.2 can't do (and do better). it claims to be bullet proof but this not the case it's allready crashed. this was a waste of money and i highly recomend that those of you who have os 9.x stick with it. maybe i'll try again with os XII or XIII, if apple is still there. uncle steve made a giant mistake here.

Summary: A great, must have upgrade!
Review: After installing this on a couple of Macs (iBook G3 700 and Power Mac G4 400), I can say that this has about a 50% speed increase over OS X 10.1! Not only that, the new Finder is finally what we have been waiting for - many more options, SLF, etc. There are a lot of little things I have noticed and like too, the updated Aqua buttons, check boxes, etc. and the translucent Dock are just a few. Great upgrade, worth it 100%.

Summary: Jaguar came with my new 17" iMac last week
Review: I have played with Jaguar over a week now. It was a surprise to see it installed with my new 17" iMac. All I can say is "PHENOMENAL" - it is quick, stable, feels snappier than OS 9 and appears to be a mature product, especially in comparison to 10.0 and 10.1 (although 10.1.5 was pretty good). Jaguar brings back most of the System 9 features (remember spring-loaded folders!), a much better mail program, iChat (which I am surprised I like, not being an AIM fanatic), iTunes 3, and Quicktime 6. The new Sherlock 3 is really neat: local movies with previews; eBay; slick yellow pages combined with maps! I haven't tried Inkwell (handwriting recognition) yet but can't wait to see iSync.

In spite of all the new features (150 per Apple), just having a quick, snappy and stable OS is enough. The Wall Street Journal indicated that Apple would be releasing a family pak (up to 5 home users) so you might want to wait for that depending on your situation.

It is nice to see that Mac has regained a lot of the allure it had in the past. Windows has become downright boring!

Summary: Joke! $129 for bugfixes, and should've been done alreadies.
Review: $$$$ for a bunch of bug fixes, and things that should have been already done, e.g. multithreaded Finder, system optimizations, gcc 3.1, etc.

The rest of the "features": not to me they aren't, e.g. ooo iCalendar, ooo iChat, Quartz Extreme(no hw), ftp in finder -- why?, inkwell -- not a tablet/PDA -- useless, etc. all useless.

For a $$$$, I'd expect a new filesystem supporting either soft updates or journalling, and honoring case. I also hope that they fixed their little SMB file/volume share problems, e.g. accepting a perfectly valid [] in file names(a *NIX side filtering error, easily correctable), etc.

Bottom line, lets get our Ts crossed and our Is dotted before we run off willynilly with featuritis. After all this is why KDE/GNOME are still junk. Does no one bother with getting the nuts and bolts right before cramming in more useless ...?

Summary: The Undisputed Leader.
Review: When Mac OS X was first launched last year, it was a work in process. Facing increasing pressure to get "something" out the door, and having gone through several failed attempts to unleash a modern operating system to replace the aging, original Macintosh operating system, Apple threw OS X (10.0) at dedicated Mac users as, essentially, a pay-to-play beta test. Why, you might ask, would Mac users pay to play with a not-yet-ready for primetime OS? I suppose you should ask Windows users the same question. At lease Apple was kind enough to tell people that 10.0 was not for everyone and was going to be revised substantially.

Then came 10.1 (now at version 10.1.5). It improved the speed and features of 10.0 and made it ready for universal adoption.

OS X 10.2 completes the cycle. OS X has now been optimized. It's fast, elegant, and groundbreaking. It has been radically improved to work seamlessly with Windows computers and Windows networks. It has built in, easy to use Bluetooth support. Over all, it has about 150 additions and improvements. There is no doubt that it is now the most sophisticated, stable, and appealling operating system out there. With its UNIX core, it appeals to techies, too.

A great OS just got greater. Much greater.

Summary: Jaguar is worth every penny
Review: Jaguar adds so much to the Mac OS X experience that it would be impossible to live without. Earlier reviewers stated that only Apple developers have access to Jaguar-only partially correct, because anyone who attended Macworld New York got to play around with it. In addition, Jaguar is already loaded on some new machines from Apple that are shipping today. Therefore, it's not only Apple developers who have seen Jaguar.

Summary: Price? It's Perfect!
Review: Jaguar is 2 steps above OS X.1! The Price is right on the head of where it should be, It is a full version, not an upgrade. Apple calls all of it's releaed OS software upgrades because you get the full version when you buy your mac! Find me another OS besides Linux that gives you the awesomeness of mac OS X and applications like iphoto, imovie, itunes, and all the other included software Apple offers. P.S. I have a .mac account, and it is also well worth the money! Find another company that will include all that stuff for that price!
