Summary: I can run it on my iBook
Review: I don't get why everyone can't seem to run Halo very well on all these high end machines. I can run the single player without lag on low/medium graphics on my 800MHz G3 640MB RAM. I can even run the multiplayer on medium/high graphics. I can run it better than my roomates 2GHz pc. I guess you just have to fool around with the settings and find the one that works.

You do need a fast connection to play the multiplayer though.

Summary: Some Mac issues - but awesome fun.
Review: I have a 1.25Mhz G4 iMac with a 17" screen. It is roughly two months old. Halo is the first software title that I've bought since getting the iMac. When I installed it and started playing the first time, I was horrified ... I thought, "I've spent $2,200 for an iMac that doesn't even have the guts to run this game?" If you are having this problem, or if you've experienced the same thing and haven't upgraded to Panther ... do it now. Once I upgraded to Panther, Halo started playing great. Without Panther, the cut scenes were awful. The characters' looked like sticks, and their mouths stayed open when they talked, exposing their teeth. It looked more like resident evil than Halo. With Panther, however, those problems have been fixed.

Graphically, I'm a little disappointed. But I bought my Mac for my design work, not gaming.

Game play, however, is awesome. Online play with my DSL connection is seamless. Sound is great.

I am not at all disappointed that I bought the game. I would recommend it. I wish I could see it in all of it's glory ... but now that I'm hooked, I have a feeling there's an Xbox and Halo 2 in my future.

Summary: low-end Mac users, do not fear
Review: I have been reading many reviews that claim that the highest-end Mac models are required to run this game at an acceptable framerate. This is simply not true. I recently purchased the lowest-end Mac desktop that's currently available: the Combo Drive eMac with a 1.25MHz G4 processor and an ATI Radeon 9200 graphics card with 32Mb of video memory, running OS X 10.3.3. I added 512Mb of memory to bring it up to a total of 768Mb. I was reluctant to pay $50 for a game that I thought might require more 'horsepower' than my computer possessed but, having been a big fan of 'Marathon' in my college days, I just couldn't resist. I loaded up the game onto my new eMac with great trepidation, adjusted the game's graphics options to their lowest settings (low resolution, low lens flare, etc.), and started the game. Lo and behold, the game ran beautifully. Not perfectly, mind you: I still experience a noticeable dip in framerate during moments with particularly large numbers of NPC's moving up close on the screen. But does it ever become unplayable? Hardly. I found that I can even raise some of the graphics options up a notch and still get solid performance. As long as you have a relatively recent G4 Mac with the latest version of OS X and a decent amount of RAM, you're probably good to go.

As for the game itself... Well, if you're reading this, I probably don't have to tell you that 'Halo' is a fantastic FPS that deserves every bit of its popularity. Great storyline, great physics, great enemy AI, some fantastic firefights, etc., etc. However, the complaint made by many others that some sections of the game are overly repetitive is right on the money. For that, I'm subtracting one star from an otherwise five-star experience.

Summary: Good game, great graphics
Review: I have played many video games and found halo to be one of the best. It is pretty much a duplicate of the xBox version. The story line is great for campaign, and hosting and joining multiplayer games is really easy. There is very little lag when I play on a 800 mhz g4 and DSL. I highly reccomend this game.

Summary: Don't believe the hype.
Review: I must admit that Halo is an excellent game for a console but for a PC/Mac it is at most medicore. The levels are very repetitive (especially once you get to the Library level) When you walk into the room it pretty much looks just like any other room. Enemies are quite dumb and know nothing about dodging. By increasing the difficulty you really arent increasing the "IQ" of the enemies but rather lower your own defenses. Unreal Tournament 2003 is the only game out there that can make a decent job of making Bots that are tough but play realisticly. Special effects in the game are also nothing to howl about. A grenade can be stuck on a guy yet it will never rip the body into pieces.
Anothing thing is, you better make sure your mac can handle this game. My friend who has a PC 2200+ Athlon with ATi 9600 and 512Mbs of ram says the game often lags so much, it becomes unplayeable. So i'd be surprised to see this game handle well on single G4s.
Online play is real garbage, not only game lags often for heck knows what reason but is unmoderated. People shout in Caps and shoot teamates for fun.
Those are the bad things.
The good things are: Graphics and textures are great. New Weapons, many multiplayer mods and a single player game from XBOX is there.
At the end, I can recommend this game for people who have never played this game on XBOX. Those who beat it on console, I wouldn't suggest this game.
For a multiplayer FPS, I can't find anything better than Unreal Tournament 2004. Halo is for playing through a story mostly, but you can't play Co-op with a friend over the internet, which is a huge minus...
It maybe not a bad addition to a Mac FPS library, but i cant justify spending 50 bucks on it especially since i beat it 4 times on XBOX.

Review: In reference to my review posted earlier today: That's a 1.25GHz G4 processor, folks. The "1.25MHz" spec that I gave for my computer was, obviously, a typo. My apologies...
