Summary: Useful and handy but not real accurate
Review: The 2004 edition seems to be much more oriented towards PDA's and the accuracy still hasn't improved over 2002 & 2001. The reason I purchased it was I thought by now Microsoft would improve the accuracy with GPS competition, etc.
Though it is a handy tool for my father that does geneology and is trying to locate a town, which creates another point as it isn't very good with overseas locations, as my father was using the program here and couldn't find what he was looking for in Ireland.

Summary: Good, good, good
Review: This is a good product. It works really well and it helps me a lot. You can plan your trip from this software. It will show you how far you trip is and how long it is going to be to get there. It can also show you where are the restaurants, motels, ATMs & Banks, etc. near your area. It is also incorporated the GPS system so that you can track where you are. It also comes with Pocket Streets to help you view your map (or your customized maps) in your PDA. So, why wait?

Summary: Finally upgraded since Street and Trips 98
Review: This is a wonderful product at a really reasonable price. Seems like even the smallest restuarants and gas stations are located on the program. We are really living in the future! The software is also compatible with GPS systems. Its very much improved since 98. Much easier to use than any online mapping system, and faster.

Summary: Prefer paper in most cases
Review: This is my first try with a map program. I work as a home care physical therapist, and was excited to be able to save my clinets' addresses in the program for directions, mileage calculation, etc. Well in 9 out of 10 cases, the program leaves off the final turn in the directions, and puts the person's house in the previous intersection. If you're driving around in unfamiliar territory and try and read the directions, it's very confusing. I like Yahoo! Maps online, because it lets me save my "favorite" addresses by client name. S&T seems to only let me save the address. S&T, unlike Yahoo! maps, does calculate mileage with several stops, but I don't trust the accuracy.

I thought it was fun to plot out our upcoming trip from Colorado to Glacier National Park, but it takes a lot of the adventure out of the trip. I think I'd rather stick with paper maps and a "let's turn here and see what happens" kind of spirit. We play a game when traveling where the person in the passenger seat is the navigator, the driver has to go where the passenger says, and we can't go on any interstate highways. We went all the way from Colorado to Wisconsin this way, and saw some really cool sites. I'm sure the map program would have just taken us across I-80.

Summary: Microsoft Streets & Trips 2004
Review: This product is totally worthless for getting from point A to B. It does not begin to compare with the free sites on the internet. I haven't been pleased with any map yet that I have prepared. (One went 22 miles out of the way and took 30 minutes longer.) It's logic makes no sense to me whatsoever. Do not waste your money on this software.

Summary: DONT BUY THIS SOFTWARE!!!!!
Review: this software is horrible. i'm going back to my old street 98. i hear Deluo Routis 2004 is an excellent software. GPS supported

Summary: Best Mapping Software I've Found!
Review: This software is very accurate. You can enter the speed you travel on major & secondary roads and you will get to your destination at the correct time within 15 minutes. 2004 has the correct exits, unlike 2001. Way better than MapQuest!!! I map out various destinations at least 15 times a year, since we travel quite a bit to archery tournaments.
Would give this sofware an A++++++ Highly recommended!

Summary: Make the Switch
Review: Used Delorme's products for over 10 years but made the switch this year to Microsofat's Streets & Trips. Overall, pretty happy with the product. COMPARED to Street Atlas version 9:

WHAT I LIKE. It works with my Magellan 315 GPS!!! "Snap Routing" really does work and makes re-position to your desired route EASY. Found it very easy to locate businesses, restaurants, service stations, REST AREAS, etc. Many many GREAT feaatures too numerous to detail out here.

The INTERFACE is FAMILIAR, standard keyboard strokes to all of us Microsoft users. Includes detailed maps of Canadian roads.

BEWARE HOWEVER: Unlike DeLorme products, distances to next turn, stop, or the "finish" point are NOT furnished enroute! I miss that greatly as it was helpful to know how far you are from the next turn or stop! Also, NO voice (audio) which also helped alert you that a turn was coming up!

Also: found that the latitude and longitdue readings do NOT correspond to my GPS (nor to Delorme's products). Seems there are different mapping "datums" (bases) and the one MS chose does not match my GPS so it is useless.

Finally, the "auto ioon" is a little hard to see on the road. It would help if it had a "snake" or trail to see your current position on the map (like Delorme's).
All said and done, howeveer, I would make the purchase if you need to update your "points of interest" and USA roads.
From reading others reviews of Delorme products over the past two years, THIS is a much better product and for half the cost. My only HOPE is that Microsoft will enhance their product to give us GPS users a. Distance to next turn or stop point and b. give us audio response.

Looking forward to upgrades and enhancements from Microsoft and won't go back to Delorme which appears to have Major weaknesses.

Summary: Plenty of errors but still useable
Review: We use the plan a route feature mostly and for the most part it does the trick. We need directions in a rural setting and there are a lot of county roads and this program is woefully lacking in information on these rural roads. Plus when it does ferret one out many time it is not even in the same area you told it to look. Plus several time it gave wrong turning directions(turn south when it should have been north). I would expect more from microsoft but thats about the same as expecting your government to change, it ain't happenin'. I will look elsewhere next time I am looking for mapping software for sure.
