Summary: If you like maps...
Review: ...this program is pretty decent. If you want to actually get to where you need to go, forget it. I visit dozens of work sites each weeks, and I'd say two out of 10 locations I put into S&T'04 it either cannot find at ALL, or it's put on the map not even close to the actual address (the best one last week was on the correct street, in the correct city, and about 2 miles south of where it actually was).

I looked up my home town, and found that, according to MS, have moved a couple miles south, including a 40-room hotel.

Another point of annoyance, my client's corporate offices use MS "MapPoint" software to track locations. MS S&T'04 doesn't read or even import MapPoint map locations. Same company, same function of software, don't talk to each other. Go figure.

I was not a user of any previous versions of S&T, nor will I be a user of any future versions of this software... Going to find something that's Palm-friendly, too.

Summary: I wouldn't upgrade
Review: A nice product (much better than Delorme or Rand McNally). If you don't have this, I would opt for a previous (cheaper) version. Some new subdivisions are updated, but lots of things which happened in 2003 (oops, i mean 2004) are NOT updated.

The outerloop I-485 in Charlotte. It's the same as in S&T 2002. Not updated.

I-90 East Ted Williams extension to Logan Airport from Bigdig project. Not shown.

Huge bug with I-65 circling around downtown Nashville. They simply changed I-265 to I-65, but left the old route also signed as I-65. How could they overlook this? I saw this right away. Not one (Microsoft) tester saw this?

US31 hasn't gone through the heart of Indianapolis in years. It's been merged onto I-465 a long time ago. It's still inaccurate on this map. They don't even have the I-865 dogleg on the map for Indianapolis yet and that's been over 2 years.

Even simple stuff like the devil's US-666 in NW New Mexico changing to US-491 is not there.

Bugs with railroads in Canada disappearing are still not fixed.

This is called 2004!! But, I see nothing for 2004 here. If you're going to charge me for updates, then I WANT TO SEE UPDATED MAPS. 2004 doesn't even appear in the Help menu, Install menu, or the splash screen. It's extremely rushed, but I see no reason it should be rushed since it came out in July 2003.

Some changes are there (Phoenix), but many are simply left out. UNSATISFACTORY to road geek fans who look forward to accurate updated information each year.

You'd be better off going to the used software shop and getting yourself an older edition to save money. It's practically the same thing.

Summary: GPS support is still lacking.
Review: A note on the "improved" GPS support. The 2003 version only updated your GPS location about every 10 seconds. The 2004 version now updates this every second but there is no option to auto rotation the map. The map does not re-orient itself based on current direction of travel. Also, I don't believe there are any options to show current speed, direction of travel, or a few other GPS options. I'm not even sure if this shows your GPS track. The GPS features are a disappointment. In my opinion, Delorme is superior for GPS use even if the maps are not as nicely drawn.

Summary: Not up to standard
Review: Although this program is useful in many ways, it suffers from two major faults: (1) the road network is not up-to-date in terms of either locations or attributes, and (2) the routing algorithm used is very strange indeed. This may reflect very bad information on the difficulty of traversing specific links or else may be a significant software bug. I use the program frequently but it is certainly not state of the art!

Summary: Perfect !
Review: As a Paramedic in Montreal, we use it in our central dispatch, we save time and time in our line a work is life or death.
Microsoft Streets & Trips 2004 takes us where we have to go with precision. Most of my collegue had bought it for personal use to learn all the one way and create shorcut in there district where they are affected. All the best and long life for this great software.

Summary: Great product !!!
Review: Best value ! It seems to cover all major cities in U.S.A. and Canada. Much easier and faster than flipping through map book or other online address finders(yahoo or mapquest). (It also has world map, but not in detail scale.)

Summary: Microsoft Streets and Trips
Review: Beware purchasing Microsoft Streets and Trips programs. I received this software free along with my purchase in 2000 of a Dell portable computer. I grew to love MS Streets and Trips and used it for every trip I would take, to map the area I was going to. Then I upgraded to Windows XP and POOF! Streets and Trips software worked no more. When I called both Dell and Microsoft to find out why, I was told I needed to pay $30 for a one-time technical assistance session to fix the problem! What a complete and utter rip off! Next time I'll find some other software made by a company who isn't as error-prone and/or greedy.

Summary: Streets & trips 2004 is a disaster
Review: Do NOT waste your money on this version. I made the mistake of installing it and uninstalling my previous version. Now I'm screwed. This crashes most of the time and when it doesn"t its not nearly as good as the older version.
