Summary: Issue of incompatibility
Review: After spent over $400 upgrading my computer and software. The software does not support sony trv20. MGI should anticipate this problem and has an downloadable patch available. The software supprt is nonexistent with waiting time on phone last forever and finally, I gave up.

Summary: Customer Service is Awful
Review: Although I really liked the look of the software and the price, I am so disappointed by the customer service that I doubt if I'll ever buy anymore products from MGI. First of all, they do not appear to have a toll free 800 number, but I needed to speak to them so badly that I made the call anyway. Several of them actually, because that is what is has taken to get them on the telephone, and they still haven't answered my question.

Also, when a customer service rep finally answered he was not interested in talking to me (so why did he answer the telephone?). He rushed me through the telephone call so he could move on to other things. So I had to call back and wait on hold again. I ended up with a long-distance telephone bill that I don't appreciate.

Summary: Save you $
Review: As with all the other reviewers, I have had nothing but problems with MGI. They refuse to admit that there is a problem with their software, they insist that it is my computer. Well, I have VideoWave IIse it works MUCH better. I wasted my $ getting VideoWave 4.

My main problem is with audio sync. If you need to do a LOT of cuts and edits, use IIse, or some other software. Otherwise, the capture works real easy (FOR NON DV CAMERAS). My next purchase will be Ulead VideoSutdio. I hope I have better luck

Summary: Good and bad features
Review: Captured my digital video easily, stores everything in a neat library, the Storyline with drag and drop makes editing intuitive, transitions are easy to create, sound editing easy to master. Manual is nearly worthless--had to buy a separate book that covered VideoWave. Help files just as bad. Final production snagged repeatedly and gave no clue why. Most irritating is that any effects can't be viewed until the video is produced, which is very time consuming. I'd check out other programs first...it's possible that this is the best you can do in this price range.

Summary: Don't buy this!
Review: Do yourself a favor and don't buy this product.
I purchased VideoWave 4 and installed it on my Win2000 PC.
It captures video from my Sony camcorder fine, but that's it.
I can't edit any files (not even the sample files that came with the software). The icons and menu items for the editing functions never enable themselves (they stay grayed-out) and the "help" and the skimpy manual have no information on this.
I tried to go through a tutorial in the manual and could not get past "step 2" because the menu option would just not become available.
The free support online is very, very poor. And I have heard awful stories about the attitude and lack of helpfulness of the expensive pay-per-call support.

I am sorry I bought this!

Summary: Easy to Use and gives great results
Review: First... I should come clean about my experiences with MGI products...up to this point it was not very good. But I had read good reviews on the product so I took the risk and bought the program.

VideoWave now has me becoming a MGI fan.

The program is easy to install and use and I am very pleased with the mpeg2 videos that I have produced with the program. For the average person, this program is all you need. Good editing, transitions, text fly overs and background music. I have had no computer problems with the program at all (MGI's downfall in the past). I am running the program on a 450 PII with Windows ME.

The program is fairly easy to learn and you'll be editing in no time.

With this program you can almost create a video that your neighbors will WANT to watch!

FYI: I was happy enough with VideoWave to take a chance on MGI Photosuite 4.0...which so far...so good!

Summary: Beware Installation Routine
Review: Great Product but beware the installation routine.

I'm running W98 SE and during installation the installer changed the file winaspi.dll without notice with an older version, causing loss of the digital audio stream capability of my system (bad if you want to edit DV videos).

After couple of hours I was able to restore everything.

Summary: last shot at this one!
Review: Had version 3, it would not not work no matter what I did. Finally I tried it one last time. I followed the hardware installation word for word. Turns out there were three not one, but three drivers to load USB, AUDIO, and VIDEO. I went thru the steps. Works great. I purchased this software with a Belkin analog video input. Really surprised at captured video it works great. I did not have to go out and buy a new digital video camera. Less than one hundred dollar investment.

Summary: This software ...!
Review: How's this product suppose to be a "entry" software when I can't figure out a damn thing. Wouldn't locate my camcorder forever, until one fateful day. Once I got some video in I couldn't even see my entire video. I had to look at each section like I captured it until I rendered the whole thing for a preview. Might as well finish my movie 7 times over before I get it right. It's got this cool "blue screen" effect that I could put myself over other video. But it kept making me transparent or a color in my cloths or something. .... I just wish I had that the first go-around. I plan to post my praises of VideoStudio under that product shortly.

Summary: Don't waste your time or your money
Review: I agree with the other reviewers. I was able to capture video from my camcorder just fine. I was able to create a "storyline" by editing from my video and even create a few interesting transitions. But I was completely unable to figure out how to add audio clips to my video, such as music. The manual was completely useless. I thought it cost a lot, but would not waste my money if I knew I couldn't create the movies I wanted to. I would be willing to pay more to get a product that works.
