Rating: Summary: Check compatability before buying (and return policy) Review: Roxio released this version before it was ready! The package is rich in advertised features, and supposedly XP compatable. My experience was less than good, to be polite. Roxio abandoned the reliable OEM v4 Easy CD Creator that came with my PIII Dell Dimension. When I upgraded the operating system from WinMe to WinXP Home, I invested $ (no upgrade breaks for current users) with Easy CD Creator v6. Well, I soon discovered that the software seems to have a known incompatability with the NEC CD-RW that comes with most Dells of the era (and many others?) After many crashes, calls to Dell and Roxio (more on that below) I checked into the discussion boards. The Roxio discussion boards are full of howling customers with serious problems. I urge potential buyers to check them out BEFORE YOU BUY. After pulling my hair out (what little is left of it) I called Roxio, which does not have a toll-free support line, and was placed on hold for over 2 hours before I had to abandon the call. The software now costs another $+ in toll charges. The poor moderator of the discussion boards admitted the fix was in the works, but no idea when it might come. Problems: The Photosuite function made my system crash. The CD copier made my system crash. The drag-to-disk was inoperable. The CD labeler prints a hideous ROXIO label in an overwhelmingly big font. I removed the program and got the final insult. All in all, a very expensive lesson. Only saving grace is there is now some rebates posted that will offset the loss. For what it is worth, this is my experience. Don
Rating: Summary: THE BEST EVER !!! Review: . I am a security tech that uses various software application during my daily work, that requires backups and storage for safekeeping. I have never seen a software package that requires such a short learning curve to operate ! It litterally took me 3 minutes to install it and another few minutes to start using the CD burning and the video editing features. The graphic interface is intuitive, and the ease of use makes it the BEST EVER ! One of my coleagues in the engineering dept. was a long time Nero user. As of last week he "converted" to Roxio's easy CD creator, wondering what took him so long to "wake up and smell the coffee..." Thank you Roxio for this wonderful application that will make my life so much easier ! Keep up the good job ! HK
Rating: Summary: Finally, something on the PC to rival Apple Review: Being a longtime Mac user, I was constantly frustrated by the lack of functionality that PC apps had. To get comparable features, one had to cobble together about 10 pieces of software. Roxio has it right by putting together all of the functionality in one reliable software app. It's about time!
Rating: Summary: Great Suite but has performance/bug issues Review: This release is excellent in terms of features but the programme swallows system resources. I run a P4 2.4Ghz with 768Mb of RDRAM and 7,200 rpm disks but this release still noticeably decreased the performance of my PC due to the high number of tasks it laods. My system shutdown time increased from 10 seconds to 4 minutes (reported to Roxio). Stick with Version 5 until Roxio works out some of the issues.
Rating: Summary: Same problems as everyone else..... Review: I am a HUGE fan of Easy CD Creator 5....that software has been with me through thick and thin, and I have created hundreds, maybe thousands of CDs with it. So I was most excited to hear that version 6 was coming, especially as I just got a new DVD burner. What a mistake. I basically spent an entire weekend booting and rebooting my computer over and over and over again trying to get the darn thing to work. I finally got some tech support from Roxio, providing detailed instructions how to fix it....to no avail. Absolutely nothing worked. I said "to heck with it" and took the product back to the store and demanded my money back; which I got with no questions asked. How strange is that with software? Do they know something we don't? And now, just today, my wife installed a new copy of 6.0 on her laptop (came free with another DVD burner that we just got), and guess what? THE SAME PROBLEMS. The EXACT same problems. If you're running XP, avoid this product like the plague and get 5.0 instead....it is a FAR superior product, at least until they work out the bugs on this one. But it's too late for this customer....sorry Roxio! You just lost a fan.
Rating: Summary: Excellent product only got better! Review: Seamless, fantastic, and stable. A solid addition to the computer. A bit more professional then the last version, Version 6 is flawless with Windows XP (SP1 needs to be installed) The drag feature is not only new but excellent. I would recommend this to any "burner" out there. make sure you read the requirements, and go to town!
Rating: Summary: If you run XP, this is useless Review: Roxio does it again with poor XP support. Buggy, constant lock ups. Total garbage. Hey Roxio: XP has been out for well over a year. Make your software work with it or fade into obscurity.
Rating: Summary: Product does what it is supposed to do! Review: I bought this a week ago off Amazon.com because I have Windows XP Pro and Amazon had some great rebates. I had version 4 and version 5 platinum in the past, and I liked both of those pretty well. I had Version 5 platinum on a Windows 2000 machine and it worked with all the patches, and version 4 I had on Windows ME and Windows 98. I bought this newest version because I wanted to make sure it would work great with Windows XP. Everything installed great on my Windows XP Pro system with an AMD 2100+ cpu. However, this computer is a home made built system. I like to build my own rather than buying from Compaq, HP, Gateway, or Dell. Most of the other folks are having problems getting this to run because I think they have to uninstall all other CD-RW software. Which the noobs don't do. After a week of using this software I think it is pretty good. It really does all I want it to do. I have used the Disc Copy function, and it is great. I also have used Creator Classic. That is the main reason I bought this for the Creator Classic. I made a VCD with the DVD Creator, and it worked out great. I also have used Drag to Disc. I have not tested out Photo Suite, but it looks like good software to get photos organized. Here is my one problem. It seems this software mainly something called Rxmon.exe that always runs in the background takes up some of my memory. You really can't tell, but if you put a cd-rom in the drive that uses auto launch it loads slower than it did before. No big deal I guess, but that is why I gave it four stars. Also as far as the stuff running in the background it doesn't really matter to me. I have 1 Gig of DDR memory in my system. So should you buy this product? If you have built your own system, and have no CD-R software on your system or have uninstalled all your recording software then you need to get this. If you have a store bought computer and already have some software for your burner then I wouldn't get this. Just because it would be a risk to screw up your system. It seems that some folks who have those systems HP, Compaq, Dell, or Gateway about %50 of them have trouble and it crashes their systems. Also with this software you can make your own DVDs. I don't have a DVD burner so I didn't make a DVD. Also when you first start this program go ahead and register so you can get easy tech support. Also click on the Home program and then they will have two updates you can download. Seems like updates can only be downloaded from within the Roxio updater software, but it is pretty cool. Anyways hope this helps and good luck if you take the chance and get this for a store bought system. Cause if it works for you, then it will be great like it is for me.

Rating: Summary: My Roxio Easy CD & DVD Creator 6 Review Review: Oh yes introducing the new & inproved Roxio Easy CD & DVD Creator 6 !!! I believe almost every cd-r burning newbie started with Adaptec Easy Cd Creator ...which was good. Then Adaptec relinquished that department to another of it's branch called Roxio ...which was good also. Roxio had great ideas and vision for Easy CD Creator. It changed the core engine and bulked up the software program to include alot of extras to enchance audio burning (mp3s, wma, etc.) , photo cds, video creation, and label creation ....Roxio made it hip to burn! Things were going good, Roxio partnered with alot of CD-RW drive manufacturers, offering the basic version of Roxio Easy CD Creator. Hence most new owners of cd-rw burners used it and liked it. Off in the distance, A STORM WAS BREWING, Microsoft was going to introduce something BIG .....Windows XP!!! While other software companies were worried about compatibility with WinXP, Roxio was not. It has already teamed up with Microsoft to include it's burning software engine in Microsoft's Windows Media Player and felt quite confident in Easy CD Creator's compatibility with the new operating system. Roxio relaxed during the period when WinXP was shipping to stores ...which was Bad! Almost every user with Roxio Easy CD Creator (basic & platinum) upgrading to WinXP began reporting problems. We're not talking about minor problems here! Huge drastic problems were happening all over the world. Hard drive crashes, blue screen of deaths, cd-rw drives not being recognized, crucial back-up data lost, it was coaster hell...it was like Ford's Pinto, Roxio was in disbelieve, stunned senseless. How could it small support team handle millions of angry users? It couldn't and it couldn't refund all it's products. Eventuallly it just ignored everybody. Worst yet it's software engine was heavily entrenched in the old operating system, uninstalling Easy Cd Creator was useless. Enter Nero... What was bad for Roxio became good for Ahead's Nero Burning Rom. Nero was not as pretty but it was small, simple and fast, it got the job done! Mass migration to Nero became the norm and things were good once again. Finally after a long time Roxio fixed it's Easy CD Creator to be compatible with WinXP and incorporated alot of features from Nero, but too late the word was out: Roxio equals Trouble. Use Nero instead! This mantra is still being repeated at this very moment. I've been testing Roxio Easy CD & DVD Creator 6 for a day now, throwing everything at it to make it crash (burning vcds & svcds, everything at different speeds). Nope ...no crashes and get this ...I think it's faster than Nero in CD to CD copy, about half a minute. Roxio has spent alot of R&D with this version and it shows. I praised them for getting rid of that troublesome DirectCD. It replaced it with something called "Drag to Disc" which is more universally accepted. It's even compatible with Nero's InCD formatted discs. (It replaces the functionality of Nero's InCD, so it's safe to uninstall InCD). Now please keep in mind I have a pretty good system, P4, WinXP with plenty of RAM. PROS: -This baby is pretty! Great for Newbies -You can burn everything under the sun -Now it officially supports DVD and SVCD -Includes a 390 page manual and Flash tutorials -Huge improvements to it's DVD & Photo menu creator -Can burn large data, spanning across multiple discs -It's alot faster than any previous versions -Supports Plextor's Power Rec feature CONS: -It's huge in terms of file size, over 400 MB -It's expensive, (buy it on special)
