Rating: Summary: AVOID THIS PRODUCT! Review: 1. Very slow to find location (about 3 times slower than Map Quest and I have the entire program installed on my hard drive).2. Inaccurate. Don't know where DeLorme gets their data but they need to find a new source (my house, my work , etc. are way off) 3. Missing major freeways almost 2 years old, (see metro Phoenix). 4. Can't generate driving directions by typing in start and end addresses. You have to click on your start and end points with this "cute" little tool. I rarely now where my end point is. Isn't that the point of having a mapping program? 5. Gives bogus routes (sends you places roads don't exist. Try Kihei, Hawaii (Maui) to Kipahulu via Waihou takes you across Haleakala volcano down the south side--sorry no roads there, not even close to a road. 6. Want to update the data and program? Good luck, can't download updates from Delorme's web site, (tried 4 different browsers, only Netscape allows a download but the file size ends up being 0 bits, tried 3 times. Waiting to get an email response. Can't down load any of their other files either. (Edit 1/30/03: Delorme's FTP site was down the day I tried updating per tech support) How could anybody give this thing more than 1 star? I would have given it negative 10 if I could. Can't return the program, I paid $.... for a jewel case. Don't blow your money, you know better now.
Rating: Summary: Street Atlas has a difficult interface Review: After using Street Atlas 2003 since its release, I have found it one of the most frustrating items of software in more than twenty years of micro computer experience. I found the previous versions much easier to use.
Rating: Summary: It will be disappointing to SA9 users Review: Although there are some nice new features in SA2003, the program is slow and takes nearly all the Windows resources on my PC. The new "interface" is not an improvement (in my opinion) and the new file structure is clumsy. I printed trip planning maps in SA9 and was always satisfied. However, in SA2003 the corresponding maps are very hard to read (the font used is much smaller) and the "strip" maps no longer show the elapsed time or distance (making them almost useless). I plan to uninstall SA2003 and revert to SA9 and then look for another product with current map data and a "useful" interface.
Rating: Summary: Street Atlas 2003 - Not a Good Choice anymore Review: Changed the interface, Map on screen less visible, slowed the program down, printout less controllable, automatically puts an address on map. And with all that... data is no more current than version 9 from what *I'm* able to see. NOT as good as it was, I'll be returning the software, and going back using v.4 and v.8 until I find something better, or delorme puts the old interface back.
Rating: Summary: Wake up Delorme Your customers are not happy Review: Delorme had a great product, Street Atlas, but then they decided to give up a winning interface and put on the clunky 3-D topo interface... result... They lost me as a customer. This product is slow, inaccurate, and difficult to use compared to the "classic" Street Altas. They laid an egg. Too bad. Guess I'll have to get the Microsoft product for updated streets and points of interest.
Rating: Summary: very good map details Review: Despite the non-user friendly interface, this application has a huge amount of details. First, I mapped my home, it gave a very accurate and detailed coverage of the neigborhood, including most of resturants, stores, movie theater...etc. Once I got used to using the program, it was easy to move around (alt+arrow key) and zoom (alt+page up or down) using keyboard shortcuts. I like especially the printing features: Travel package, you can choose how many miles of the route you need to be covered on a page. Print overview is good. Print big maps on up to 3x3 pages. This program uses the layers feature (similar to photoshop) so you can add or hide layers or routs on the main map. it is also nice that you can calculate a route by setting the start/end point to be one of points of interests already tagged on the map (when you fully zoom in). Again this program is not very user friendly and it took me some time to get over my anger. But overall, I think it was well worth the money.
Rating: Summary: Delorme, what have you done???!!!! Review: First off, I have to say, I have been a huge Street Atlas USA fan since version 1.0. Yes, I've been using this program for over 10 years and I used it almost every day and loved it. The last version I used was version 7.0 and the maps were starting to get out of date, so I upgraded to the 2003 version. It is awful!! Downright awful! First off, the interface is confusing and doesn't follow standard Windows applications. I've gotton use to it, but the user interface is really bad. The help files aren't that good either. Second, the maps look horrible! The detail settings are way off. There is either not enough detail or too much detail. The old versions worked much better. Third, this program is slow as a pig. The old versions were really fast and responsive even on a Pentium 90 Mhz laptop. The version was VERY sluggish on a my Dell Pentium 3 733 Mhz. Although the performance is acceptable now that I have a 2.4 Ghz Pentium 4. They seem to have completly rewritten the software and it [isn't very good]! It's a real shame. I would have rather had the old version of the software with updated maps.
Rating: Summary: I TRIED TO LIKE THIS BUT... Review: Having been a Street Atlas USA customer since version 3, I was pretty committed to trying to like this. In addition, I own the Delorme Earthmate GPS which only works with Delorme products so I was REALLY committed. I tried... and I tried... Well... I'll be looking to replace the whole package. They ruined the Street Atlas franchise with this release. the user interface is awful, the features are now harder to use (if they still exist at all) and the program is slower. And the whole reason I bought it was because I thought the streets would be updated, but not in the areas that I was looking for! How does a company release an "Update" by removing features and making it worse??? The one saving grace is that Delorme has a 30 day refund policy which I definately will be using. Oh... did I mention that I'm STILL waiting for them to respond to my email to the support department.... If anyone has any recommendations for a good GPS/Mapping package, please post.
Rating: Summary: Avoid SA2003 & 4 & Read other One Star reviews - all true. Review: I - like all but 2 of the 38 others who have written reviews - completely agree that this is the most unfriendly SA version ever. They told me via their Support email that there is no way to eliminate the Splash Screen (which on my PIII/500 takes a full minute to go away). I just want to say this.. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE read all the negative feedback - I have used SA6 & 7 - and without any doubt - all of the negative comments are unquestionably valid. If I could give this product a negative rank - so that it brought the ranking to ZERO stars - I would.
