Summary: Pretty doesn't mean good...
Review: I played the game in open beta also, and I must say I found it very boring, the fact that the graphics are amazing doesn't meant the game is too. It was a good time killer, but that's about it. You plat it because there's nothing else to do. This game isn't worth it, (...).

Summary: Boring and buggy
Review: This game is boring, and very very buggy. The game promises for great Sieges but it's not even live, even now after over a month of retail release. The person saying he has been playing this game for 10 months is lying, because the NA Lineage 2 has only been out since May.

Save your money. If you want to try it, wait until the Chronicle 1 patch is in, then ask people how the game is. The game company is in Korea, and they do not talk to customers at all. There's almost zero dev-customer contact. Everybody right now is waiting for this Chronicle 1 update because it's supposed to add Siege and several other things. The thing is, Chronicle 1 was supposed to be released at retail. And currently customers can't even get a direct answer back from the devs regarding when this Chronicle 1 update is going to be in.

The PvP system in this game is messed up, the karma system does not promote PvP, and there's very very little PvP in the game at the moment.

Graphics are great in this game, I will give 2 thumbs up.

Controls are really really awkward, it's mostly a point-n-click based system. Think about diablo.

The grind is horrible, player economy is overpriced, and there are a lot of farmers and bots running around. There's also a lot of exploits found recently in the game.

My suggestion is to save the money and wait until the company decides to fix the game up.

Summary: Hit and Miss
Review: Short version --
Good: To date, this is the only good MMORPG that supports well integrated and balanced PvP (players fighting players) while having nice graphics.

Bad: The PvE (players fighting the environment, like dragons and lizardmen and so forth) is VERY bare bones.

Long version --
Lineage II looks great and didn't launch with any critical problems. A ton of new content and fixes are coming out in the free "Chronicals 1" patch that should be released sometime in June. It's refreshing to finally have PvP as a constant option, with checks in place to guard against "rampant PK's". You can attack anyone you see but there are consequences to doing so. The consequences can be pretty severe so basically people only fight if there's a real personality clash going on.

However, this is overshadowed by the shallow and boring leveling treadmill. It is a treadmill, one of the worst I've seen and I've played a lot of MMORPGs. The attack options are few, the monsters you fight aren't real smart, there's not a lot of dungeons (though the ones they have work well). There's very few quests. Loot drops are so rare that they might as well not exist. You really have nothing to look forward to while leveling, it's pure, boring grind. No quest, no story, no reason, just whack-a-mole for hour after hour.

The only saving grace is the PvP. Other games have it in some limited form but Lineage II has it in "always on" format. You can always attack or be attacked. There's no "safe mode", no "safe areas", no "instancing", I can hit you in the head with an axe whenever I decide it's worth it and this really serves to lessen the impact of the grind.

On one hand, here I am killing my 526th wind spirit. The only thing stopping me from being bored to tears is the thought that at any moment, I could come under attack from a player, or I could get annoyed at someone and decide to attack them. The simple OPTION of PvP makes the game much more bearable for me.

Still, it wouldn't kill them to add some more quests or something to make the grind go down a little easier.

If you're looking for a good EQ style game where you log in and fight dragons, this isn't it.

If you're looking for a good PvP game, this is just about the only game on the market and will be for quite a while.

Summary: The worst MMORPG ever!
Review: I thought the game was kind of interesting for the first half hour. After the first 8 hours of play you actually get to attack some real enemies, but you're stopped by someone with the name angellovekiss killing everything in sight.
rang rang you go ok, says the player. Rang means go away, rudely in Mandarin Chinese. There are more chinese money farmers and ebay sellers in the game than actual players playing it.
The game managers (in game support staff) say adena (game money) selling has "zero tolerance" but also that their action to the selling "depends on the severity of the offense."
The point is, NCsoft is getting $15 a month from the Chinese adena sellers just like every other user and they wouldn't want to alienate half their customers by enforcing their rules. A few other things: Korea's server only allows Korean players. Japan's server only allow Japanese players. Taiwan's server only allows Taiwanese players. North American server allows everyone, including the Chines that were banned from all other servers. Oh, and look up what "cao ni ma" means. No swearing allowed says the GMs.
Stay away from this one guys. NCsoft is milking the legit players and the money sellers.

Summary: Enough with negative sides!
Review: Okay, so like 2/3 of people who wrote a review here simply HATED this game.

Well, I can't do anything about that, but what if you change the perspective?

Lineage 2 has more than a hundred fifty thousand active users right now only in USA, and it was available for, what, less than 2 months?
(Not including the beta test)

If you compare this fact with that of Everquest, which is :
Everquest has about twice the number of active users of Lineage 2, but it took them 5 years to get all those people into Everquest!

Well, I'm not saying that Lineage 2 is better than Everquest, but maybe these reviews here on Amazon are not fair enough, since internationally Lineage 2 is the second most popular massive multiplayer online role playing game, only after it's predecessor, Lineage 1.

If you go into many other gaming websites, you'll easily find good reviews about this game, and when I say 'good', it means rational and fair, not just unreasonable good ratings. I think those who are not sure whether to buy this game or not, will find rational reviews more helpful in making their decisions than these 'DON'T BUY THIS GAME, IT'S STUPID' reviews.

As far as I could see, these reviews here are written by pre-mature gamers or MMORPG fans who got this game without carefully determining whether they really want this or not, and are not satisfied.

I'm not going into any details of the game, just because I'm too lazy to write them, but nevertheless I'm leaving you some tips, not for 'in the game', but 'about the game'.

1. DO NOT buy this game unless you have a computer that can run this game smoothly. You'll find its system requirements somewhat high, unless you have a nice, decent computer

2. DO NOT complain about monthly fees. I actually heard, or read, some people saying bad things about Lineage 2, only because it charges fees monthly. Well, if you haven't noticed, almost every MMORPG charges monthly fee to maintain server and update stuff. By complaing about this, you're telling others that you're new to MMORPG and your review is not reliable

3. Pretty doesn't mean good, that's so true. But there is more to this game than its astonishing graphics. The main reason I bought this game was because of its GAMEPLAY, as I played beta and before that, Lineage 1 for years. If you bought this game because it looked cool, boy, you're wasting money and time. The real highlight of this game comes from Castle Siege and other nice systems, not from visual.

4. DO NOT judge the game after a day of playing. This game is hard, and even a bit cruel at first, yes, but as you get use to the game, you'll find this game much more fun and enjoyable. Also, DO NOT give a bad review because you had trouble running this game on your computer! If you didn't know, others don't care whether you were able to install this game on your computer or not!

"I BOUGHT THIS GAME AND IT WON'T EVEN LOAD. DON'T BUY THIS."

Please, it's not others' problem and why bother writing a review that says you have completely no idea how to judge things properly?

....sorry, I got carried away a bit, but I was almost getting mad by looking these reviews so please understand the feeling of a true MMORPG player. You'll hear a different opinion once you get into the game yourself and ask other players. Don't get confused by people who couldn't even install the game or who played for an hour before writing reviews.

Summary: No wonder this is the most popular game in the world.
Review: Lineage II is currently more than five times more popular than Everquest when EQ was at it's peak, and no wonder why. This game has amazing graphic. It is a shame that nearly all of the reviews here come from people who have never even played the first chapter of the game, The Chaotic Chronicle. This game will make you an addict. It has 5 races to choose from currently with more on the way. You can be virtually any type of character you want, good, evil, neutral. You can enjoy role playing, or you can try to power level. Everything is in this game.

Most impressive though is how balanced the Player versus Player game is. If someone just kills new characters indiscriminately, they are likely to be reduced to the lowest level and suffer tremendous penalties, however, if they choose to participate in duels, there is no penalty whatsoever.

One of the most powerful forces in Lineage II that most other games of the sort lack is politics. Players can join clans and guilds and fight powerful NPCs to control castles, tax rates, and raise broods of dragons for them to ride around on.

I've been playing this game for 10 months, and I am still not tired of it. That's because unlike Everquest, expansions are free and unlimited. Every month Lineage II changes for the better.

If you want to see why this game is more than 5 times more populous than the next biggest video game, I suggest you buy it and try it for yourself.

Summary: Don't waste your money
Review: I just canceled my NCSoft accounts for both City of Heros and Lineage II.

Lineage II is nothing more then a treadmill. You like to grind? You'll love this game. You want content, variety, social interaction (PKing not included) and/or enjoyment? STAY AWAY FROM THIS GAME!!

First 20 levels can be done in about 30 hours game play max, I would say. While doing this have something on TV you want to watch because you are gonna be bored. After that you get to chose your profession. then do it all again for 20 more levels. Excitement comes from PKers and Bots. You have to take care of these yourself cause the GMs have no clue at all.
The Pkers have actually been known to use bots to hit you then you swing back and turn pink, then they kill you with no reprocusions to their karma. They can come into town and laugh at you after they killed you cause you were pink when they killed you. Or they set up in PK packs, like wolves, and hunt lowbies.
The Bots are about 1 in every 4 characters you will see in the average server. Tweaked out and on autopilot they kill everything in range, even you if you get to close. Forget hunting in that area as it will be dead before you reach it.
All in all NCSoft needs to stick to the other side of the planet if they dont want to do ALOT more development and ... here's a thought ... GIVE CUSTOMER SUPPORT TO THE PEOPLE GIVING YOU MONEY!

Seriously folks if you are thinking of getting this game DONT!

As for City of Heros, it atleast encouraged grouping.(...)

Oh yea, one last thing. This game that is now available on the shelf and from online stores such as Amazon is not complete. If you were to compare the current status of this game to the usual standards other games follow thru development, this game is in OPEN BETA. What does that mean to you? That means you are buying an unfinished product. They are selling you something that you will have to help them fix. This is a practice that other MMOs do on a free setup so we get a finnished product for our money. Kinda like buying a converable car, only its not supposed to be a convertable car. They just havent got the roof on yet.

Review: The game is OK. But the server is unstable and mob disapears frequently.

Summary: This game is a blast
Review: I had a ton of fun with this game during open beta and can't wait to get back to playing it. Not your typical fantasy RPG - it's got wide open, player on player combat where anything goes. There's a karma system to penalize PKers, but so what? I love prowling the hillsides looking for newbies, and facing mercenaries looking for me afterward. Way too much fun!

Summary: Good graphic, sound, but lacks Content
Review: I played for open beta for about one month. When I played Lineage 2 the first time, I was amazed by its graphic and music. I especially like the moon light and take tons of pictures of it. But, there is little content in this game, at least for now. The quests are dull. Usually it requres you to go kill some numbers of monster in exchange for Adena(money). Since money is the King in this game, players are forced to do these boring quests again and again. The leveling isn't really that hard and soloing is probable for certain classes.(archer) However, if you level too fast without making enough money, then you will get stuck. Some people die purposely to reduce their levels, which allow them to kill lower level monsters to make money. The game might be fun after sieging is allowed after next update, Chronical 1. Anyway, here is a quick sum up:
pro:
1. good graphic, sound
2. Sieging might be awesome.
3. PvP, if this is your thing
con:
1. Really bad customer support
2. Boring quest. Nothing else to do besides slash-n-hack.
3. Exploits in the game.
My recommendation is wait first. If Chronical 1 proves to be good, then buy it at the time. If not, then wait for WoW. :)
