Summary: Most amazing drawing program ever created.
Review: (Excerpt from a letter that I wrote directly to the product manager of Kid Pix.) ...."This is the most amazing drawing program that has ever been created. You have done a great job! You have taken advantage of every computer advancement of the past 12 years and have put it in the hands of children! Good show! You have combined game, television, art, science, math, education, music with passive/active entertainment. Kid Pix shows off what computers can do at their best. It teaches how to use a modern computer, without words! It is fast and it is stable. Very well done.

Summary: Kid Pix is the Best!!
Review: As the Producer of Kid Pix Deluxe 3, I'm writing to recommend it to everyone. I'm biased, but I think you'll find it just as cool as I do. Unfortunately, the editorial review above is not very useful -- it's for the old version of Kid Pix.

Kid Pix Deluxe 3 is a brand new product built on the same great philosophy: to provide kids with the most open-ended, creative art and multimedia experience possible. Kid Pix creations can include backgrounds, animations, stickers, stamps, text, music, imported photos or movies, self-recorded sounds, and more. The interface is fun, easy-to-use, and lively with sound and motion (the buttons wiggle and the brushes squish when you use them).

Once you have a finished picture there's a whole new set of options - make a slide show with great visual and sound effects; export it as a movie or flash animation for the family web page, or share it with all your friends and relatives through the Kid Pix Email Center.

Kid Pix really is for kids of all ages. Even teenagers (a generally sullen bunch) have given us rave reviews.

I hope you'll try Kid Pix Deluxe 3. I haven't found a kid yet who didn't think it was the coolest.

Summary: Don't Get Deluxe 3!
Review: Broderbund has ruined Kid Pix in its newest form. The tool bar has been completely changed and no longer reflects their counterparts on similar graphics software. Deluxe 3 has been "kidified" to the point of ruination.

Get just the plain "Deluxe" version - Not 3!

Summary: Great art game with rich colors!...
Review: First of all poeple are lieing that you need to find the pop up menu, really! All you need to do is look at the Read Me and it shows you how to do it, then it shows how to go to the users manuel. That one person who said "Were is the plot?" is wrong, even know there's isn't a story that comes with it the plot is art, speaking of storys you can make your own story, thay give you starting pages on every thing, there is even a start page to create your own frog!

What I like a lot about this one is that I was really mad at my Kid Pix Studio Deluxe because the drawing control was way to hard and the colors were cartoon stuff and you can't make 3D things to well, now with the new Kid Pix Deluxe 3 the colors are great and drawing is a snap.

There is a little kids mode and a normol mode. There ARE tool tips unlike poeple said, with a click of a button you got tool tips!

If you like fun and art and have that great imagination and you are smart a nough to look at a Read Me then this game is a buy.

In other words SMART poeple who like art will like this.

Summary: Great fun for kids, but poor interface
Review: I am familiar with the earliest versions of this program, and have been using the newest version in the work I do with young people (mainly early teens and pre-teens!). Kids love this software... it's colorful, has a wide variety of tools, makes weird sound effects, and will even "read" whatever they have written out loud. In fact, after over a year of watching this program in action, I am (uhmmm... the kids) are constantly discovering new things that can be done. And it has many levels of use from coloring in pre-drawn pictures, to creating pictures with stamps, to drawing freehand. The kids use it to make cards, posters, stories, etc.

A main drawback to this software was mentioned previously. It has been "kidified" to the point of distraction. The interface is non-intuitive (even for kids)... All of the options on the screen have had the labels removed (and no tool tips!) and are represented by what I find to be extremely abstract graphics. It is unfortunate to not at least bridge the gap, so that young people who are learning to use a computer are beginning to understand menus, etc. The kids I work with (technolgy based afterschool program) typically have difficulty in Kid Pix when exiting the software (of course, most of these kids are used to and comfortable with a "file", "exit" option), saving files, and finding their favorite tools. Naturally they work around the problem, by exiting the program incorrectly, not saving, and poking around til they find what they want. Regardless, it's poor design.

My biggest complaint, however, is that the "adult" tools, such as "file open", are in a hidden menu along with the help file that tells you how to find the menu in the first place. There was no documentation with the software that explained how to access the menu, or that there even is a menu! There is also, if I recall, no print setup option so you have to change the printer default outside of the program.

Long story short, I'll buy this software for my niece and she'll love it. But I strongly encourage Broderbund to stop babying kids and give them a decent interface. At least add some tool tips for learning readers (and the grown-ups who love them)! I work with 6-year-olds who can use professional software like Adobe Photoshop... they are certainly capable of a more mature KidPix.

Summary: A wonderful program!!!
Review: I got Kid Pix for Christmas and I love it! We use it at school sometimes. It has a number of great stamps and sounds to improve the fantastic and imanginative pictures you can create. You can make birthday cards and connect-the-dots pictures. I would reccomend Kid Pix to anyone, kids or adults. Have fun!!

Summary: Excellent Software
Review: I have been using Kidpix for seven years now, since I was in elementary school. This is an excellent graphics program with awesome patterns. You can have so much fun with the different stamps and backgrounds. It also has normal Paint functions, and it looks much like the same. The whimsical noises are a bonus, as the software would still be excellent without it.
