Summary: "Myst"-ical Fun - Get ready to be transported into Myst
Review: This is, without a doubt, one of the most imaginative and compelling games around. I have a feeling that it will always remain the standard that other games will be compared to. As of this moment, I have only found one other game equal to if not better- & that's the Myst sequel- "Riven"- but back to Myst. Play this game for the fine-art graphics (too cool & must be seen) & the brain-busting puzzles - all of which are solvable if you don't try to make it too hard. This is a stellar game without violence & gore - our 5 yr. old actually figured out two of the puzzles we were stuck on! Much ado is made about nothing regarding "getting stuck" & buying help books etc... If you truly get stuck you can always go online through your standard "search" window and type in "Myst hints." Be forwarned- getting the answers given to you isn't nearly as rewarding as figuring it out for yourself. Treat yourself or give Myst as a gift- you definitely won't regret it.

Summary: No Shooting But Lots of Thinking
Review: Myst is an intriguing and magic game. Beautiful scenery and outstanding music compliments the simple storyline. But that does not mean the game itself is simple!

Although you may not be able to die in Myst, it is still difficult. You must search around the different lands for clues. You must also have patience and a long attention span, because you won't be able to finish this game quickly. You are dropped in the middle of nowhere, and you must make sense of it. Once you get through one land, you'll get the hang of it.

Each land, whether it's up in a tree or on the main island, is complex and beautiful. You actually feel like you are in the world of Myst. There are also superb sound effects and music that set the mood!

I suggest this to people that enjoy hard games without violence. Please remember, even if there are no guns or bombs, it doesn't mean that it is for children!

Summary: Smart , but bad
Review: Look at the price. It's $9.97. Ignoring the fact that this game came out in the early '90s, I'd have to say this game fails to meet my acceptance. The graphics are very cheap, and there's not a whole lot to do. If you like puzzle games that confuse the hell out of you, buy it. I haven't played the sequels, though.

Summary: The surrealistic adventure the will become your world...
Review: My dad got this game for me when it first came out and all we had was an outdated mac. At the time, I was too young to understand it and I just threw it on my shelf. A couple of years later I noticed it, pulled it out, and started playing it. Although it ran a bit slowly on the aging computer, I loved it. I loved the puzzles and the beautifully rendered frames and videos. A couple of years ago, I got a new computer, and when I saw MYST Masterpiece edition, I decided to replace my old slow mac version with the shiny new copy. I wasn't dissapointed. It's simply a wonderful, beautifully constructed game. My only complaint -- as I've noted in several other games, the graphics on the mac just look smoother and cleaner for some reason. But it is still an amazing game on the PC.

Summary: One of the best strategy games... ever
Review: Not too many games make you think. This game had me taking notes. As a general rule, I don't take notes for anything. That's how interested as I was. Considering the age of this game, it looks just as modern today as it did when it first came out.

This same game, if created today, would probably have complete moving video, but this has still screens where you use the mouse to navigate from screen to screen. The game runs fine on my system, though I have had some crashes during the treehouse level. Outside of that, I've never had compatibility or operating problems.

The game will take a while to get through, but you won't mind because you'll get sucked into it. Time goes by pretty fast when you get into this game. I've lost quite a few hours in the wonderfully rendered worlds of Myst.

I was impressed enough with this game to buy the sequel Riven on DVD. I'm more likely than not going to pick up Myst III: Exile as well.

While this game is not for people with a short attention span, those who enjoy a good strategy based game would do themselves well to get into Myst.

Summary: Frozen Myst
Review: I recently purchased Myst Masterpiece as part of the Myst Trilogy. I'm a relative newcomer to adventure gaming, and the many favorable customer reviews I'd read really piqued my interest. I figured it was about time I bought the games considered to be such adventure classics.

I'm sure Myst Masterpiece will be an enjoyable game if I can ever get it to stop freezing my entire system. Everything locks up with alarming frequency, leaving me no other option than to turn my computer off and back on.

Meanwhile, if I haven't done recent "save," many of my game accomplishments become freeze casualties. This necessitates my starting over from the point at which I last saved the game.

I've done everything I can think of to correct this problem, including many uninstall/reinstalls. Nothing I've tried has helped.

Unfortunately, I haven't succeeded in getting help with this issue from Ubi Soft. I've spent a lot of time exploring their online Support Center, and I have yet to see the freezing problem mentioned anywhere.

I'd been hoping that the revamping of Myst into Myst Masterpiece would preclude the existence of major glitches, but I guess it hasn't. So...although the jury is still out on my opinion of the game as a whole, I give its performance two out of five stars.

I'm looking forward to actually being able to play the game with a degree of continuity someday.

Summary: Good but Confusing!
Review: I can't really figure out the spaceship on the main island, which means I can't go any further! It's very frustrating. Don't buy it if you don't have the logic of Spock.

Summary: Some True Advice!
Review: This is a beautiful game. But I do have some suggestions that I feel will save you hours and hours of frustration but increase your enjoyment. Choose as you want.

The game can't be completed without outside help. Yes, I have heard of it being done for people with diagrams and 8 hours a day of free time. But I hope you don't have a family or a job! Please buy "Myst: Prima's Official Strategy Guide". I will tell you how to use it with a game in a minute.

Please buy the Masterpiece edition of Myst. I've examined it. And this edition does give clues! I would still buy the book no matter what. You will get a giant picture of Myst Island which is worth the price itself. Remember too, the graphics are better in the Masterpiece Edition.

2 hours. 3, 4, 5, 10. You decide. But I have figured out that if the player will time the amount spent in this game according to a certain regimen, then enjoyment is maximized while the pain of frustration is decreased. In other words, if 10 hours have passed without ANY forward movement, it's time to cheat a little. Just start reading the book until you get one clue. Then give yourself another 5 or 10 hours. But stick to the same time. If you do go forward, start your clock all over again.

Some of the websites are beautiful for hints. As well as friends. But this is your journey! They may blurt out too much at one time. Believe me.

I wish I had done this. I went to the back of the book and zipped right through the game! My brother got stuck and must have put in 20 or 30 hours before he started bumping his head on the wall!

Well, I guess you are ready to go. You will no doubtedly start at the dock and go into the library behind the trees. These is truly a great game. Just wonderful for teens and adults alike. Just keep your cool. And follow "My Method for Mastering Myst Without going Crazy in the Meanwhile." Say hello to Achenar for me.

Summary: Fantastic Game!
Review: I think Myst is one of the most intriging computer games out there. The worlds are so realistic that I found myself completely detached from the outside world many times! The storyline is wonderful and I loved the idea of traveling to different worlds through a book. The Quicktime works excellent and in sync with the rest of the game, and the music is really amazing. The puzzles are VERY hard and it took me a very long time to solve a few (especially the underground maze in the spaceship world!) I plan to buy Riven very soon and have heared it is even better! I love the strategy involved and the in depth logic! And for all the Myst and Riven fans out there, I heard about a third game called Myst 3: Exile set to be released Spring of 2001!

Summary: Masterpiece is right
Review: When I picked up Myst III (to be played who knows when - I have a five-year backlog) the package also contained Myst and Riven. I first play Myst about 10 years ago, so I decided to load up and play it. The Masterpiece Edition is updated with better graphics and some hints but no new content and ran in Windows 2000 with the Windows98 compatibility mode with no problems. Because I replayed the game in about ten hours or so it is difficult to meaningfully comment on gameplay. Secret doors and the infamous underground railway give most players the hardest time and I will admit having problems on the railway. Anyone having problems can google for hints and tips.

Regardless of difficulties, Myst is one of best games ever made especially for casual players. I rarely give five stars.
