Rating: Summary: beware - the rebate - they won't send the rebate to you Review: I sent in all of my documentation for the rebate so that this would be free after rebate (as advertised everywhere). They sent me a postcard saying that they needed my receipt. I don't know if they don't take the Amazon shipping receipts or if they just don't want to issue rebates. I think that's what they count on to give so much "free" software away - not issuing $$ back to purchasers. This was the first time I've purchased tax software and I won't buy this product again - ever.
Rating: Summary: Update problems Review: I'm a longtime and until now a satisfied MacinTax and TurboTax user. Recently I bought the Windows version of TurboTax2002, federal and state, as a gift for a resident of the District of Columbia who, as a new computer user, does not have internet access. Despite your advertisement several states including DC, are not included Thus, I have a state CD-Rom that is worthless without a CD-ROM update. I think that I should be provided one without charge, but can't contact Intuit Neither their 800 hotline nor live chat seem to work
Rating: Summary: Good Stuff --- BUT it may not be your best buy Review: The good folks at TurboTax and Amazon.com have been much more careful this year. I was not alone in buying this product, which includes 45 states' tax returns on one CD-ROM, under the *mistaken* impression that you could access more than one state. (Why else would a customer care that it is a multi-state disk rather than only his or her state?) If you want to use the throughly excellent TurboTax programs to do your federal and state taxes, then you should buy TurboTax Deluxe, which includes one state for free in addition to the federal tax stuff. You will not need to buy this product. If you plan to file in more than one state, then you would be required to purchase one copy of this product for EACH additional state. (Of course, once you own TurboTax Deluxe you can download additional states for the same price as ordering this and help the environment by consuming one less box and CD-ROM. Somehow that should be deductable. :o) ...) As far as the state products go, the ones with which I have had experience (MO, IL, IA, and IN) are user friendly and massive timesavers. For those of us who work in two different states (at least MO and IL), TurboTax state products easily and quickly perform the cumbersome task of figuring out how much tax goes to which state. The calculation verges on calculus and, before TurboTax, I spent hours upon hours trying to figure it out without ever knowing if I had done it correctly. Highly recommended for those who need this product and who understand what it is they are ordering.
Rating: Summary: Intuit's greed ruined a good product! Review: The installation of the C-Dilla copy protection program as part of TurboTax is highly unethical software engineering. Why would Intuit want to harm all of their customers rather than just the people illegally copying their software? I have been a loyal customer of Intuit's for the last 9 years. I have bought Quicken every other year and Turbotax & Turbotax state every year for the last 9 years. Now my loyalty as a long-term PAYING customer is rewarded with a 1 megabyte memory sucker running constantly on my machine. Of course, if the program is terminated or removed then I can no longer run their product! I never agreed to [C-Dilla] when I purchased Turbotax, but I guess I should have read all of the fine print in the license agreement. I understand Intuit's wish to cut down on coypright infringement, but my need to cut down on unnecessary system processes running on MY COMPUTER is what matters to me! I can't wait to finish my taxes so I can uninstall Turbotax and get rid of C-Dilla.... I don't have a problem with the activation feature alone. It is [C-Dilla] constantly running in the background that I object to! I will NEVER buy another Intuit product again. I imagine that it will take years to build back their customer's trust even if they decide to remove this nonsense from next year's product!
Rating: Summary: Better than pencil and paper. Review: This is my third year using the State version of TurboTax and my fifth year with the Federal version. If you made a big gulp and installed the federal version inspite of the product activation scheme then I would get the state version also. If you bought the deluxe federal version the state version is free after rebate. I have to give the state version three stars because it lacks a lot of the help features that come with the federal version of the program. For example, in Massachusetts you have to break down interest and dividends for inclusion into various tax brackets (it's worse than the federal form) but TurboTax gives very little help in figuring out what goes where. (May be other state versions are more helpful). Still, it is a lot better than the pencil and paper method. If you can take the product activation scheme then this is worth using.
Rating: Summary: Turbo Tax Deluxe Review: TurboTax use to be a good product but this year it is a disaster. The product seems only to exist to sell you more products and be aware many of the state products as of Feb 17th still do not work because there are no updates. Intuit has fallen vey very far. You can not even tab through screens anymore but must constantly point and click with the mouse. Customer support is also almost nonexistant. The people at support do not even know that updates are not yet available. PURCHASE THIS PRODUCT AT YOUR OWN RISK. YOU WOULD DO BETTER AND WORK FASTER WITH PAPER.

Rating: Summary: Time Waster Review: TurboTax works fine as long as it doesn't crash and you don't need the product ID to get it restarted. The customer service 800 number you'll need to call to get the new product ID is a business-hours-only number and you have to be sitting at your computer to make any use of it (at work? not at home in front of your computer? too bad, can't help you). And if you go to the Intuit support page and get text help from a person there (it's like using a two-person chat room) they'll give you another phone number, but it's a toll number and you'll be on hold a long, long time. So as long as you don't let the program crash or delete your product ID number by scanning for viruses or spyware, you'll probably like it fine. But if you have any problems, you'll probably save time by just doing your taxes by hand. I'd recommend...anything BUT Intuit's TurboTax.
