Summary: Almost Bought It - Won't Now!
Review: Thank you reviewers! I was just about to spend $80 on Turbo Tax Home and Business and you all saved me a ton of aggravation!

I too have been a Quicken and Turbo Tax customer for years, but absolutely no way will I buy this year's product. Tax Cut, here I come.

Thanks much for the heads up!

Summary: Product Activation is a bad idea
Review: There is only one thing more private than doing ones taxes
and that takes place in the bedroom.
I have been a customer for 10 years and I will not being buying this
product now nor in the future because of your product activation scheme.
As a 30 year programmer analyst I consider this idea someone sold you a stupid idea.
This is a shame because I always considered TurboTax as a very well written and
user friendly application.
Now you have added another step to the installation process either requiring
a phone call which passes caller ID information or via the internet which will stamp the request with
Both a MAC ID and IP address if static, both which are user identifiable....
And what of the last minute tax filers who purchase the software
and start at the last minute and customer service possibly becomes overloaded OR the online activation possibly bogs down...
I cant imagine how many dissatisfied customers you will create if either of these conditions happen.
dumb dumb dumb.
These are two realistic possible points of failure of losing customers that didnt exist before.
Doing taxes is tedious and worrisome to begin with now you add to that burden.

In the era of heighten citizen concern about privacy your timing is
impeccably incorrect to alleviate customer concerns.
I suggest removing the product activation scheme or possibly risk losing more customers.
The only activation that should be going on is a few more neurons need to be firing between the ears of all who approved this scheme.

Summary: Enough is Enough!
Review: There seems to be a lot of misinformation in these reviews. Go to the Intuit website if you have any questions or concerns. One of the things I read on their website is that the product activation key isn't needed after October 2003, which means in the future you can install the software on a new computer without having to repurchase the software. I for one am going to go ahead and buy TurboTax. It hasn't let me down yet and I have been using it for several years!

Summary: Not as bad as the others are saying
Review: This is the third straight year I have used this product for doing our family's home taxes and my home daycare business taxes. It was just as simple to use and well-laid out as ever. I had no personal problem with the internet activation thing, as I understand the business position behind it (cutting down on shared software, of course). Anyway, tax time is just about over, so who cares what my opinion is by now?

Summary: Be aware of product activation
Review: This will send your sensitive information to Intuit. Just be aware. I recommand not using this product.

Summary: Use TaxCut instead!
Review: TurboTax has performed well in the past, but this year it has failed to perform at an acceptable level. The new TurboTax requires online activation. It also tries to limit software sharing and in doing so makes file storage, back-up and retrieval difficult. I have been unable to re-open my work because of these protections and have had to start completely over on a long return. TurboTax also seems a bit less user-friendly this year. I have had to abondon TurboTax because of these problems and am now using TaxCut instead.
Save a lot of trouble and start with TaxCut instead!

Summary: wasted my money
Review: Turbotax Premier didn't work -- was sold incomplete and update needed, although not mentioned on the box. I am not on the net, so needed to wait for it USPS. After waiting 6 weeks (and tax time imminent) I finished my taxes manually and mailed it. I returned the disc to Intuit and requested full refund. THEN they sent me the upgrade. Too late, guys. Intuit now refuses to acknowledge me... Decide for yourself if they are an honest company.

Summary: Distrusted
Review: TurboTax showed a lack of trust in its users, many of whom abused the agreement, by not informing buyers about the changes to the software for purposes of enforcing their one copy rule. I don't mind that they are trying to protect their investment. That is good business. Their lack of trust in me by not informing us before we purchased the software is not good business policy. Changes to established products should be disclosed. I will not be buying TurboTax next year.

Summary: TurboTax does not work. Intuit does not know why.
Review: TurboTax will not load on many computers according to Intuit. An error code appears when trying to get an activation code or the request code is missing during their new activation process. When you call their support line they say they do not have a fix for the problem and do not plan on having it fixed until February. The customer can not load the software. Good job Inuit. Greed has gone to your head and now you've created a product that doesn't work. Our advice to Intuit customers, if you want to spend your money on a product that just does not work then feel free. Otherwise save your money.
