Summary: Avoid QuickBooks if possible
Review: My experience with the company has been extremely negative. Buy this software only if you are comfortable with the lease concept of paying for software, and if you're willing to work with a company that does not really care about its customers.

This product forces customers to purchase expensive "tax table updates" every year and then, when Intuit needs an extra jolt of income, to purchase an update of the entire product - hence QuickBooks 2003. Once you're in their software, it becomes difficult to change, so Intuit is able to arbitrarily set its price for the "updated tax tables" and product updates, and it does, relentlessly, in its favor. If the company would explain the concept up front, it would be ok - simply say that the software is leased every year for a certain fee. But it isn't sold that way. Beware - their method of automatically charging customers' credit cards every year for the update is aggressive - when you work with Intuit, you definitely need to read the fine print.

Summary: Run Away From Intuit
Review: No support. Run away from this company. if you have trouble (and you will) know that they are impossible to reach and won't talk to you without a credit card number. A paper ledger book is better than an Intuit product.

Summary: No customer service
Review: Please start with a different accounting software. Intuit locks you into their expensive payroll updates that you could input yourself if they would let you. Manually typing in the government info for payroll checks every payroll doesn't sound like good computing.... but $169 a year sounds like "GOOD PROFIT." I like the program... but extremely dislike the management. Moving to another program.

Summary: Would agree with the Nayes!~
Review: Quickbook supports lacks for an average user. We have been using Quickbooks since 1997 and have stopped at 2001. This is due to, among other things...charges for a software problem... charges and long-waits, and more charges. Anyway, if you know accounting, such as an advisor, sure one would use Quickbooks, but ever since these products became some how intertwined with Microsoft, the service and quality have not been the same... Also, don't try to export data, this function is very poor! Can anyone recommend another product. WE are a growing company and do not want to deal with Intuit's surprises with the tax tables. What has gotten into them? Is this maybe the greed state of a small monopoly on accounting programs? Go figure!

Summary: Be aware of additional charges
Review: Quickbooks has been known to allow those of us with a bit of accounting literacy to manage our business finances. We recently purchased Quickbooks basic after doing a fair amount of research. After loading we discovered an additional charge applies to update the payroll tax tables. Yes, you want the tax tables to be accurate but charging [$$] to update them on a new software program doesn't seem customer focused. While they do provide one free update the payroll tax tables stop working ... so you have no choice but to pay and update.

Setting everything up was fairly straightforward except for employee tax information. The help desk will be happy to assist you - [$$] for 20 minutes or [$$] unlimited time for three months.

I really have no problem paying for service however this additional bit of information was not found on Quickbooks web site nor on the software box.

Summary: Quickbooks Pro 2003 Multi-user has many problems
Review: Quickbooks Pro 2003 single user is a good product. I am now a multi-user and in a nut shell, it is slow and the second copy crashes frequently. I received an update and encountered numerous problems in the customer job:list with the balance column not working the way it should. If you enter an invoice the balance disappears from the Customer job list balance column but appears in the Quick Report and Open Balance.

There may be many happy users but they aren't in multi-user mode. I am definitely shopping for another alterative. I was told by one of their clerks that they have 52 million customers and I guess one customer doesn't mean much to them so I will take my business to someone who thinks that every customer is important.

Summary: Quick Books 2003 - ....
Review: Some improovements in the tax calculations, but very poor in modified accounting entries. Owner's manual shows very little, free "help" on line doesn't address important basic navigation and tasks in the software. Technical Customer Support available only after payment of a minimum twelve months support contract.
Customer feedback nonexistent. It was a wrong choice.

Summary: QuickBooks - quickly unsupported
Review: Support even for the add-ons that require a monthly fee stops after 3 years. Do not think of this as a purchase, think of it as a 3-year lease.

Summary: Thanks for the reviews
Review: Thank you for the reviews. I was just upgrading from QB 2001 PRO to 2003 Pro and had some concern regarding the new version. My bookkeeper wants me to move to Peachtree after a bad year of working with TurboTax and QuickBooks together..thanks for the advice. I shall return my QB 2003 Pro purchase and find another product.
