Summary: Microsoft Money imports work (sort of)
Review: Although the ads state that TaxCut can "seamlessly import your financial data from ... Microsoft® Money" the fact is it is neither seamless nor complete. For the past couple of years the automatic import has not worked and one has to consult the TaxCut webpage for a workaround. Also not all data is imported, e.g. for stock sales the name, cost basis and sale price was imported but buy and sale dates weren't. Customer service says these must be input manually because only "basic information" can be imported (dates aren't basic?!). If you have 75 transactions as I do this is very tedious.

Overall, an okay package but my enthusiasm is greatly reduced due to the fact that it doesn't live up the ads.

Summary: Watch out for the rebate
Review: The software is fine. But beware of the traps in getting a customer rebate if you download the H&R Block deluxe edition, as I did. The rebate forms are hidden in pdf format in the Taxcut folder. When you print out the state rebate form, it tells you to send to the address below but does not provide the address.. you have to call H&R Block. The address for the state rebate is: H&R Block Rebate Center, Dept. 420564, Promo No. 763021, P.O. Box 9900, Maple Plain, Minnesota 55592. This is such an obvious ploy, I would complain if I knew the right authority.

Summary: Repeat Customer seeing if the coast is clear
Review: I have been using TaxCut since 1998 to do my taxes (and believe it or not, I still have the installation CD's back to '98). Yeah, I know.... sad, but true. Anyway, I found TaxCut to be very user friendly and easy to navigate. I've never had any of the problems other users are saying they've had. In fact, I can't be happier. I mean, it's not all that expensive, you get the State Program for free (after rebate) and in some areas, you also get other software for free with it (after rebate.) Last year & the year before, I got Microsoft Money basic for free after rebate. What more can a person ask for? If you take your taxes to a professional, you're going to pay no less than probably [$$$]even for the most basic return. My returns are not complicated and I had done them by hand for years until I decided to try TaxCut. I've been happy with it ever since. I just feel better about the accuracy and legibility of the forms using Taxcut. I'm considering buying it for filing year 2002 as well... Wish me luck!!

Summary: Buy this - not that TurboTax spy stuff
Review: Lower price, and no anti-cdrw software.

Summary: Good but not Great
Review: I bought this after seeing the Turbotax reviews after having used Turbotax the last 3 years. Taxcut is not as nice an interface but did the job. I imported last years Turbotax files without issue so I'm not sure what everyone else complaints revolve around this situation. Downloading the updates through the software kept locking up as said in other reviews, but the Taxcut web site has a seperate download that worked and installed easily into the existing installation of Taxcut. I would recommend it as efficient software and will probably use it next year.

Summary: Goodbye TurboTax - Hello TaxCut
Review: I used TaxCut years ago and switched to TurboTax. After reading the Amazon.com reviews on both products, I am switching back - ESPECIALLY once I read on TaxCut's web page that TaxCut allows you to import from TurboTax. QUOTE: TaxCut allows you to import from last year's TurboTax and from the 2000 - 2003 versions of Microsoft Money and Quicken. :UNQUOTE. My mind is made up. I am switching back to TaxCut.

Summary: Taxcut puts Earthlink Icons on computer automatically
Review: I bought TAXCUT - during the installation procedure it asks you if you want Earthlink ISP -- you say no and it STILL PUTS THE ICON on your desktop and install the library for Earthlink. TAXCUT is putting their advertisements on your COMPUTER even when you say NO!!!!!!!!!. I find this to be annoying and people should PASS on buying this product.

Summary: Will not install.........
Review: For the 2002 version Intuit has put a program on the software which requires the user to "verify" the software. This Macrovision software is to prevent sharing of the software. I have no problem with that, if it would allow it to work on my computer!!!!

Intuit does not have a fix at this time..........

Summary: Can you fill out forms?
Review: I'm a multi-year Turbo user contemplating the switch bcs of the activation/spyware issue. I do a lot of work with guesstimates, and then need to go back piecemeal when the hard numbers accumulate--it's easier to just go straight to the forms, not thru a bunch of q&a that are no longer relevant.

Can you mark as estimated in Taxcut?
Can you work directly on forms?
Can you override a connection? (sometimes it's the only way)
Thanks.

Summary: Goodbye TurboTax - Hello Taxcut!
Review: I was ready to buy TurboTax for the 5th year until I realized (1) I didn't get the normal renewal offer from the company for this year's product but, more importantly (2) The reviews all over the net testified to the manufacturer's use of "activation" and installation of spyware. That's when I decided to just say no.

I bought TaxCut and shortly after installation and importation of last year's data (from TurboTax), I was greeted with an interview that makes me feel right at home - it's like TurboTax's interview and I'm glad I made the switch.

Buy Taxcut this year and forget TurboTax.
