Summary: Product not ready
Review: I am a long time user. To be fair the product has worked well for me for the last 5 years. My return is complex with income from my job as well as rental income. As the product sits today, it's not ready. I have finished my state and federal returns and can't file until taxcut comes up with the updated forms. The message says early February. As of today, the forms are still not available. I wanted to call or email customer service and chew them out, but they took all contact info off their web page. I am going to wait for another week, then return the product and try TurboTax.

Summary: Flaws in the code
Review: I used TaxCut 2002 because of the stupidity of TurboTax in including the code that only allowed you to install it on one computer (this is no longer the case in the 2003 version). I found the interface to be significantly poorer, you had to perform more manual calculations and work, and it had errors in the code for the state tax programs. Last year I worked in 2 states so I had to partition my income by state. I TaxCut would not do this properly, kept changing my address listed on the return from IL to IN and back and forth when I tried to fix the data, and ultimately became more trouble than it was worth. In the end, I had to manually override the data to print my return. What a waste! I do have to give them credit that they refunded me the cost of the additional state program I bought, but I will never use this program again. I am back to Turbo Tax this year because it is the better of two average products.

Summary: Great product and cheaper than Taxcut
Review: I am an accountant and I use this product -- I buy it every year. I used to use Turbo Tax about four years ago. There is really little difference between the two programs. Tax Cut does everything that you will need. And it costs much less than Turbo Tax; so why would you buy anything else?

The interfaces are great. You can have the software walk you through everything or if you know what you are doing you can get right into the forms. The help features are great. They really will answer the majority of your questions. You can do what-if analysis to forecast taxes in future years and create strategies to avoid paying Uncle Sam lots of money.

And did I meantion it is much cheaper than TurboTax?

Summary: great product
Review: I used Tax Cut last year, after having used Turbo Tax the few previous years. I had absolutely no problems with the software or e-filing, for either fed or state. It was very quick and easy to use. And it cost much less. Maybe those that had problems have an old computer or operating system.

Summary: What product are theses others reviewing.
Review: My Dad uses turbo tax(he has the paperwork in quickenbooks, dont ask about the problems with that product) and I have been using taxcut so I have had the time to compare the products, and have to question what product the people complaining about the user interface are talking about. I see really no meaningful difference between the two.

Personnaly I will stick with and recommend taxcut for 3 reasons
1) Does not have a history of installing stupid additional software with it.
2) has all the features of turbo tax for the average user(if you are running a buisiness and have a tax consultant go with turbo tax)
3) it is cheaper.

If you want additional support of have alot of capital gains from stocks get the premium version.

Summary: Don't Waste Your Money... Get TurboTax Instead.
Review: TaxCut's interface is NOT user-friendly. eFile access was difficult (almost impossible) to obtain, and it was even harder to transfer last year's information. This program is filled with bugs---so if you are new to filing taxes, I wouldn't take my chances with TaxCut. You get what you pay for with this cheap software, so my advice is to invest in a copy of TurboTax instead. I did, and it saved my sanity!

Summary: No problems, quicker than TurboTax
Review: After 10 years of using TurboTax, I tried TaxCut this year in protest of TurboTax's invasive anti-piracy mechanism last year. I've been shocked to find out that TaxCut is actually easier to use!

TaxCut has an interview system that allows you to quickly skip the steps not applicable to you. It does so by periodically presenting lists of possible conditions that may or may not apply to you, and you just check off the ones that do. Then the interview covers only those. As a result, I think I got through my taxes much faster this year than ever have before. I did both my federal and state, and e-filed, in one evening.

My taxes aren't super complex, so I can't vouch for complicated scenarios. But for the average household that isn't running a business or juggling investments, I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this.

Summary: I switched back to Turbo Tax after much trouble with this.
Review: I tried this product last year and had to go out and buy Turbo Tax as well just so I could e-file. I was unable to download the state software and was unable to e-file my federal. The customer support was almost non-existent. Like the other reviewer I tried Tax Cut because I wasn't happy with Intuit's product activation/spyware but Turbo Tax works like a dream and Tax Cut just doesn't. If you want to save some money and print the forms for mailing I suppose Tax Cut might suffice if you're a very patient person but I'd look for other alternatives like maybe the IRS online filing or just use paper forms.

Summary: As Good As Any Tax Software, Yet Cheaper!
Review: It never ceases to amaze me how people decide to denigrate a product because of "trouble" with a vendor (shop someplace else!), customer support (is any of it good these days?), unrealistic expectations (a $20 software program isn't a $75/hr financial consultant), their system problems (when was the last time you ran disk clean-up?), etc. Let's stick to reviewing the PRODUCT, shall we?
OK, TaxCut Deluxe is a real bargain. It's consistently cheaper than Intuit, does as good a job (yes, I've used both), saves time and money by filling in a ridiculous number of tax forms, electronically transmits everything (getting you a faster refund), and pays you back for the cost of one e-file and the state version. So it doesn't meet ALL of the people's needs ALL of the time ... what product does?! It has always handled everything I could throw at it, and has caught things I know I would have missed without it. I can't give it 5 stars, because of a minor input glitch (the program would jump back to the top of a column whenever I clicked the next box in one input screen), but otherwise, it was fast and easy.
Now, if you want to gripe about other things, use online forums. Amazon has ALWAYS been a straight-shooter with me, that's why I keep coming back! I've used countless software programs, yet consistently have problems with only one manufacturer (#@!* Microsoft!). Finally, I'm not one of the 2 dozen people in the US who need Form XC-3249Q. If your like most people, you'll love this software, and have more money in your pocket afterwards ... and isn't that what you REALLY wanted to know?

Summary: Don't know about the product. Amazon's download sucks
Review: I've used TaxCut for the past 4 years, and have been VERY happy with it. Never had a problem when I bought the boxed disc at Best Buy.

This year, I thought I would try downloading, saving the trip to my local BB. Mistake.

I paid, had my order acknowledged, and then had to wait 4 hours before the software was ready to download.
When I was finally notified that it was ready to go, I tried 8 times on two different machines, with no success.

Amazon is great for books, but I will NEVER order downloadable software from them again. It's not worth the wait, especially when the download doesn't work when you're finally notified that it's ready. Doubly so when there are 10 stores where you can get the disc for the same price within a 15 minute drive.

I think Amazon is getting overextended.
