Summary: What a Piece of Garbage
Review: I have been using Quicken since "Quicken 4" on my Mac. It WAS a great program. This version is okay except for the investment portfolio. It is full of bugs, and is not at all intuitive (ironic, eh?). Further, you cannot simply "fudge" and enter your historical transactions ... so my cash balance is wrong, and impossible to correct. After researching online, it is clearly a bug that Inuit will not even acknowledge.

Hopefully they will get their act together for 2005, otherwise, I'm out of there!!

Summary: quicken 2003
Review: I have been using quicken since the 90's. The best
Quicken was the 99 version. Since that time they have
been going down. I was going to order the 2004 but after
reading the reviews, I'm not ordering it. Have these reviews
been given to Quicken so they know how awful their product
has become. If they appreciate their customers, they will
do something to change their software. Thanks!

Summary: Worst Version of Quicken ...........EVER!!!!!!!
Review: I have used Quicken since the DOS versions, this one is the worst! You cannot change any colors, period, end of discussion! You cannot remove unused, useless toolbars/frames, period, end of discussion! You will have to call tech support! You will have to endure repeated uninstalls/reinstalls! Download a trial version before you upgrade, if you can't configure it the way you want, delete it and move on!

Summary: An Intuit fan since 1992
Review: I started using Intuit financial software when I first went into business in 1992 with QuickBooks version 1.0, and have used Intuit's financial software ever since. I find that the programs are very reliable, very easy to use, and a good value. I have used Intuit's Quicken since 2002, when I started doing my home finances online, and have been very pleased with how easy it is to budget, balance my checkbook, and pay bills online. Using Quicken at home has cut my time commitment for home finances by at least half. Highly recommended, especially if you are considering banking online.

Summary: Less for more
Review: I too was forced to upgrade from Quicken '99 and did so begrudgingly. When I received my copy of Quicken Basic '04 I realized that much of the functionality (downloads of stock prices, etc.) of my old Quicken Basic was now only available in Quicken Deluxe for an additional $20. I returned my Quicken '04 and will continue to use my '99 version, even if I have to input daily stock prices by hand.

Summary: DON'T UPGRADE!
Review: I used to LOVE Quicken but upgraded to 2004 Basic to take advantage of free offer with Turbo Tax. They shouldn't even give this product away. It is garbage! Full of bugs! Can't load "budget" on toolbar because it won't be there next time I get on but others work. Data was corrupted in transfer. Constant crashing when customizing. Crashes every backup. It converted file types wrong then there is no way to fix. Support folks don't speak English. They want to charge $1.95 per minute to help with this awful software. To top it off, I didn't like the new format - especially the budget function. I was sick to my stomach after 8 hours of messing with it and having lost 15 years of data. Bought Quicken 2000 on e-bay since Intuit wouldn't sell or download it to me. Thank goodness my backup data was fine. Quicken 2000 is a great product. It's horrible that Intuit has done this to us.

Summary: Thank you for the warnings
Review: I was all set to upgrade to Quicken 2004. The only reason? So I could make backup files easier by burning to cd's. I too, have used Quicken for many years and would upgrade every other year. Well, after reading all the reviews, I think for the time being I will stick with my 2002 version. I can still backup on cd's the long way around. What can these companies be thinking of when they cheapen their products, hire people who can't speak with you for support, etc.
Thank you all for the warnings. I believe my money will be better spent somewhere else.

Summary: Intuit ruins everything
Review: I was essentially forced to upgrade from Quicken 98 because of Y2K problems, and I wish I hadn't. Quicken 2004 is a horrible program, full of useless advertisements for everything from Quicken's credit cards to Quicken's online banking services. To make matters worse, you can't get rid of these annoying self-promotions. They are always there, whether you like it or not.

Quicken has also demonstrated that they intend to keep moving customers in that direction. Quicken 2004 makes downloading bank account and financial information easy, but the functionality requires registration and appears to route the data through Quicken's servers. Quicken 2004 still allows you to download and import your account data using a data file, but the 2004 help file warns you that Quicken 2004 will be the last Quicken version to support that feature.

I agree with the other reviews: At one time, Quicken was a great program. Intuit's blatant greed has caused it to change a great, versatile program to a bloated advertisement for its other services. I don't trust Intuit and would never trust them to handle my financial data properly, so I'll switch to MS Money or some other accounting software when I make my next upgrade.

Summary: Stick with Quicken 2002 (maybe from Ebay?)
Review: I was warned!! Instead I thought I could put up with all the small inconveniences of 2004. Every one of the negative reviews is correct and then some. I've been using (and promoting) Quicken since 1996 and updating every other year. 2004 regularly crashes on Windows XP. The investment register is useless for record reviews. The help topics are not useful. I was excited the first time it took me directly to Intuit's knowledge base, until I found nothing in the knowledge base that applied. Their Indian customer service can barely speak English. Not that it matters much since they haven't a clue how solve problems other than uninstall and re-install. The final straw however came today when, during an online update, Quicken corrupted my data files. The only fix for this is to uninstall the program. My fix is to reinstall Quicken 2002 and wait until I see some positive reviews on a new version before buying another Intuit product, even though I'm in for a couple days re-entering data that won't transfer from version 2004.

Laughably, a couple years ago Intuit was used in marketing case studies as a better way to treat customers than Microsoft. Where did those managers go? They now make Microsoft look positively brilliant. Since I have loved Quicken for so long, I really hope Intuit is monitoring these site reviews and will Quickly correct these myriad problems. I'm just glad I didn't post a high recommendation on this product and have to eat those words now.
