Course Overview
This is the final course in an eight-part series that will provide IT professionals with the knowledge and skills necessary to implement, administer, and troubleshoot Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional and Server. At the completion of this course, students will learn to identify the features of securing a network; identify the Security Tool Set components and configuration areas used to secure a network; create and configure security templates, implement and troubleshoot security policies; identify recovery methods, the recovery console, repairing a server and restoring a network.

This series is designed for IT Professionals who are responsible for administration tasks in a single-domain Windows 2000-based network. Participants should have completed Microsoft Windows 2000: Administration (Course Series 72410 - 72412) and the first seven courses in this series.

Objectives
Unit 1: Windows Network Security: An Overview 2 - 3 hours

Identify the network security features of Windows 2000.
Match the tools used for securing a Windows 2000 network with the situations in which they are used.
Match the components of the Security Configuration Tool Set with their functions.
Identify the Security Configuration policy that provides security for a specific function.

Unit 2: Managing Security 2 - 3 hours

Add the Security Templates snap-in to the MMC console by using the Run dialog box.
Create a security template by using the Security Templates snap-in.
Configure Password policy settings by using a security template.
Configure Account Lockout policy settings by using the security template.
Configure Audit policy settings by using a security template.
Configure User Rights Assignment by using a security template.
Configure Security Options settings by using a security template.
Configure System Services settings by using a security template.
Add the Security Configuration and Analysis snap-in to the MMC console.
Set up a security database by using the Security Configuration and Analysis snap-in.
Analyze security configuration by using the Security Configuration and Analysis snap-in.
Configure system security by using Security Configuration and Analysis snap-in.
Apply security settings to a domain by importing a security template into a Group Policy object.
Identify the Account policy settings that can be the cause of a specific problem.
Identify the solution for a specific Local policy problem.

Unit 3: Recovering Data 2 hours

Identify the methods used to recover a Windows 2000 network from a specific problem.
Match the method used to start a failed server with the problem that prevents the server from starting.
Sequence the steps to recover a server in the safe mode.
Install the Recovery Console by using the Windows 2000 CD-ROM.
Identify the repair tasks performed by the Recovery Console to start Windows 2000.
Repair a Windows 2000 server by using the Recovery Console commands.
Sequence the tasks to be performed for rebuilding a Windows 2000 server.
Restore Active Directory by restoring the System State data.
Perform authoritative restore for the Organizational Unit (OU) that contains Active Directory objects by using ntdsutil.exe.
