Rating: Summary: Portable, Convenient, Fast Review: I used to own a Zip 100 Parallel. It was useful alright but it was heavy. The drive itself was kinda big and the power adapter was heavy.I was delighted to see the release of the Zip 250 USB Powered drive. Not only is it slim and lightweight it can store a lot of files. Since it's USB it's faster than the Parallel port drive so you could copy large files quickly. Since I travel to other countries, I don't have to bring a power adapter to make it work. Installation is a snap. Install the drivers, plug the unit into your USB port and it's ready to store your files. If you have Windows ME you don't even need to install drivers, just plug the drive in and it automatically starts it. Buy this drive, you won't be disappointed. They usually sell for $189.
Rating: Summary: Sweet product Review: What a handy product! 250mb of storage available almost anywhere you go. Worked great on my Mac os9 dual G4 450, and my win2000 machine. I just feel bad they raised the price for everyone else--was 129.95 a week ago. Note, once you install the software for this drive, all other zip products will not work! Wasn't a problem for me, but watch out.
Rating: Summary: Not worth the money Review: I work in the computer section of a mid-sized printing company, and I also do a lot of web work on the side, so I see a lot of different, and at some points odd) ways to store media. I bought my external 250 drive a few months ago, along with 9 disks to go with it... all of which (drive and disks) are sitting on a shelf collecting dust. This drive does not work well personally, or professionally, whether you want to reuse it a million times, or store important back-ups. The disks are not dependable enough to rely upon to keep long term back-ups, constant use corrupts the disks, and forget about sending them through the mail! No matter how careful you are in packaging them, chances are you'll get a few back with messages saying "I can't open most of the files, they've gone bad". Buy a CD writer, test your CDs before you give them to someone else, and you won't have any problems, mail them... step on them... pour some soda on them... as long as you don't play hockey with them, or melt them, you'll be OK.
Rating: Summary: Doesn't work with most notebooks Review: I gave this 2 stars since I thought this would be the perfect external drive for traveling with my notebook book but failed to work with my notebook. When I tried to install this on the USB port of my notebook, it caused my notebook to slow its performance to a crawl. I later figured out that this drive needs a "high power" USB port. For those that don't know, there are "high power" and "low power" USB ports. There is nothing on the box of this drive that says it only works on high power USB ports. Not only that, Windows doesn't report the problem back to the user. What a waste of time and money. I later found out that Iomega makes a PC Card that is a high power USB port so that you can use this drive. Gad! What good is USB if it is not "universal".
Rating: Summary: Very Good Drive Review: I bought this drive a week ago. First it came very fast. Also it was very easy to install. I just inserted the provided CD with IomegaWare driver, then it said restart your computer and insert the zip drive in your USB slot. I did that and Windows 98 automaticaly recognized it and installed the driver. It writes very fast and you can password protect your disks. Only one problem is that the zip disks are a little too expensive but I can manage. Very good buy!
Rating: Summary: USB vs. Parallel Review: I am a computer technician and was BLOWN AWAY !!! at the blazing speed of the USB version vs. the parallel port. It is a definite if you need to backup or transport files. Buy it you will not be disappointed.

Rating: Summary: garbage Review: This is a piece of garbage. I bought this drive in September 03, along with a new iMac with flat screen. The drive wouldn't read many of my Zip disks, rarely loaded, and frequently froze my iMac. After numerous, frustrating communications with Iomega they agreed to replace it. They sent me a reconditioned model that fell apart before I could even insert a disk. They sent me another one. Which also froze my iMac and ate my disks. They sent me another one, mid-December. Worked fine until last month; same problems.
I've been talking with them and the only "solution" they can offer is to send me another one (!) or offer me a 15% discount on a higher priced model. Obviously, we're not on the same page about this.
Don't waste your money on this model; it's garbage.
Rating: Summary: A keeper Review: It makes a hell of a racket when you fire up your computer, but the IOMEGA 31310 Zip 250 is well-worth the momentary ruckus. We have had ours for over two years now and have not a single problem. I use it for storing my novels and for my teaching purposes; my wife uses it to store hundreds upon hundreds of her photographic works. Neither one of us are computer savvy but this drive was easy to set up and brainless to use. I plan on keeping this for a long while, although, as another reviewer has mentioned, CD storage is going to be the way of the future. So be it. Until then, the IOMEGA 31310 Zip 250 will be our storage facility of choice.
