Summary: write protect error
Review: I purchased the Lexar Media 256 jumpdrive. When I tried to use it I received a "write protect" error. After searching on the jump drive and every where on the internet to find out where the "switch" was, I found out that the jumpdrives delived in April had an error. I emailed the company, they wrote me back saying they would send me a return authorization, it has been almost a week now, no return authorization, and I still have yet to receive the initial rebate. I do not get a jump drive that works until I return mine. I have been disappointed with the delay. Friends of mine have jumpdrives by different manufacturers and have been very happy. Shop wisely.

Summary: Excellent Portable Storage Device
Review: Pros:
Shuffling MS Word files among my school, laptop, and home computers is relatively straightforward via the Lexar 128MB JumpDrive. Synchronistic documentation of the MS Word documents for college classes is utterly effortless using the click, drag, and drop method. This type of ease for maintaining synchronistic evidence of MS Word documents on the Lexar JumpDrive is a vital function that enables me to produce a record of any developing documents I might have. I do this to bar the notion of plagiarism that may possibly be formed in my Professor's mind.

Cons:
I don't like the clear purple color case.

Summary: Don't think - just buy it!
Review: I'm not much of a gadget fanatic, but this item is HOT! The only thing I can suggest is if you can afford it BUY A BIGGER one. I was going to buy the 64MG, filled all 128MG with 2 years worth of family photos! Downloaded all the pics on both grandparents PC, no problem with WinMe, XP but 98 wanted to upload a new driver.
I brought this for work, but I can see I'm going to have more fun with it than I thought! And it looks cool too!

Summary: WORKS GREAT!!!
Review: The drive works just as advertised...it couldn't be easier. You pop it into your USB slot, windows recognizes new hardware and BOOM, you've got a new little "hard drive" that you can save things to, drag and drop, etc. When you're done, right click on the little icon down near the bottom right of your windows desktop, ask it to "unload" you drive and you pop it out. Honest, it couldn't be much easier. There's no software to load...nothing. The instructions sheet is incredibly short.

IT LOOKS LIKE WINDOWS 98 MAY BE A LITTLE PROBLEMATIC. YOU HAVE TO DOWNLOAD A DRIVER FIRST. I've used this little guy on a WinME and Win2000 system with zero trouble.

My only complaint is that the drive might be a little flimsy. The purple plastic covering is cool-looking and such, but lord, if you stepped on it, I bet it would crush like an egg. I'm using it on my keychain, and so far, so good, but we'll have to see how it goes longterm. But again, it works JUST like you'd hope. I'm so thrilled I got it!!

Summary: Long Term Update
Review: Still LOVE this product, and this class of product.

What stands out about LEXAR's device is that it is shorter than many competitors (there are smaller devices but they may cost more, and they are not so widely available).

Also, this device seems to be more solidly constructed than some competitors. I had another AVB drive and the USB connector would wiggle easily relative to the base. This LEXAR is rock solid.

I received my rebate in a timely fashion without a second thought.

LEXAR is now selling a USB2.0 256MB flash drive but it is about half an inch longer than this one, and thicker too. The new one comes in blue rather than translucent purple. If you want a small and sleek drive, the 128MB is a good choice.

Summary: Works excellent! I'll get 256meg, too.
Review: Beware of simultaneously using too many devices on one USB port! This is not an issue with the Leaxar unit, it's a general caveat.

If you run too many operations on single USB port you could see lost data error messages.

How I see this happen is hot-syncing my handheld while copying files to the Lexar unit. The hot-sync cradle and the Lexar share a 4-port to 1 USB connection. The Lexar lost. I had to run checkdisk and defrag to clear the unit.

The Lexar is solid, fast, and fun to show off.

Summary: Rebate Warning
Review: I read the rebate problems some have encountered here, but I still bought it. I recieved a denial from the company for not recieving the "original UPC". I had sent the ORIGINAL and I no longer have it to resend. How am I supposed to prove that I did? Even if I had a copy of it, it still wouldn't prove that I had sent the original. Go figure. My impression is that I'm dealing with crooks, who tease you with the rebate and find an execuse not to honor the rebate. I called them (after going through a maze of prompts on a long distance call) and they promised to take care of it in 6-140 weeks. I'm still waiting.
My advice if you're buying it because of the incentive rebate, don't.
As for the quality of the product, I can't comment since I bought as a gift for a relative overseas. Haven't heared from him yet.

Summary: Works fine - cap is not secure
Review: I really like the idea of this product, and this company makes a nice looking item. It works fine, and didn't have any driver issues in any operating system. My only issue is that the cap that goes on over the USB connector doesn't securely attach. It seems to just hold there by being a little tight (is surely going to get loose in time). I wanted to use this on my keychain, but am a bit concerned about damage to the USB connector when the cap comes off.

Summary: The Next Generation "Floppy Disk"
Review: No, the CD-R/CD-RW is not the replacement for the old reliable floppy... this is it. All that you need is an accessible USB Port and at least Win 98. If you have ME or above, drivers are already on your computer, if you have Win 98, then you need about a 5MB download from Lexar website. www.Amazon.com has it at a great price, and with free shipping, it's a tough deal to beat. It's excellent for moving MP3 files, large Digital Camera pix, and can also fit very large Zip files.

Summary: works great
Review: The Lexar 128 MB JumpDrive works great. When pluged in Windows 2000 and XP machines, it is regonized right away. With Windows 98, you need to download a driver from Lexar's web site. Installation was no trouble.

Two things i don't like:

1. they use 1000 as 1k, however, in binary world, 1k=1024. This is why you end up with 122 MB, instead of advertised 128 MB. (I guess that is also noticed by many confused and angry buyers?)

2. The plastic case is small and nice, but too smooth to get a good grip on it, so sometimes it is hard to remove from the computer.

The speed is good, i tested about 900kb-1 MB write speed per second with large files (25 MB, 56 MB and 110 MB). Read is about 1 MB per second.
