Rating: Summary: Recommend buying another brand ... Review: One month after I purchased this product it broke. Asked Lexar to replace it and they basically ignored me. Buy another brand.
Rating: Summary: Great little product Review: I saw one of my co-workers with a Jumpdrive and decided to get one for myself. It has worked really well for me. I transfer files seamlessly between my work laptop (Windows 2000) and home PC (Windows XP.) I understand that it won't work as well with NT systems, so I can't use it at another work site. It works on both low and hi speed USB ports.
Rating: Summary: Great device for powered USB ports Review: This is the best deal for the price. I've had, and still have, a lot of different usb media devices and this is the most resilient one of them all. The only two complaints I have are the cap, which easily comes off, and the fact that it requires a POWERED USB HUB to function, which is almost standard for usb 2 devices. The only usb2 media I've found that doesn't require this is the Sony MicroVault, which is more expensive. This means that the Lexar won't when plugged into an Apple keyboard, but the Sony will.
Rating: Summary: Great...but dang the cover! Review: This is an excellent product...BUT the danged cover is too easily lost. It comes off extremely easily and that is a real annoyance. The drive itself is beautiful, real quick BUT... it drains a lot of power from your other shared USB HUB devices such that my HOT sync slowed to a crawl and cordless mouse pointer disappeared! ARRGGHH!! If you have a dedicated USB 2 port however,[like at the office] then this device rocks! Did I mention that the cover is easily lost? Hence the 4 stars
Rating: Summary: Encrypt your files in case you lose your JumpDrive Review: I love this JumpDrive! It's a cinch to use and the transfer speed is excellent, once you format it for NTFS as mentioned by another reviewer.I also used PGP to encyrpt my files in case the drive should fall into the wrong hands. You can get PGP Personal Desktop at www.pgp.com, or there are a number of other encryption programs available. I was worried about a complete stranger getting access to my financial info, but after hours of fiddling I couldn't get the Windows XP Professional encryption system to work (I copied my private key to another computer but it still wouldn't decrypt), so I went to a third-party program. I keep all of my files, personal and business, including my Outlook personal folders (the outlook.pst file) on this drive. I have configured Outlook on all of my computers to access the outlook.pst file on the JumpDrive directly, to avoid having to copy the file back and forth, and it works seamlessly and quickly. I work on four computers regularly so for me this solution is much better than using a laptop (I've had bad experiences with laptops!). I highly recommend this device for yourself or as a gift.
Rating: Summary: an absolute must have Review: if you own more then one computer, or must take work home, or if you know anyone with a computer to whom you might want to share a file with, you need this product. it is indispensable. I run a website and I often compete for my prmary computer, so I keep all my files on the jumpdrive and it doesn't matter what computer I use, my files are there. I take the jumpdrive to work and can take files home or vicaversa. you can't beat this for the money. it requires no instructions (well unless you're running into situations like described in one of the first reviews) and it works as decribed. No fuss, no muss. no more zip drives, no more cd writing, fast simple and cheap. Only thing I hate is how fast these things drop in price and how quickly the new ones come out with more storage. I think theres a 512 MB jumpdrive out now for not much more then I paid for this. alas, that is the world of computers....
Rating: Summary: Is the Mail in Rebate scheme a fraud? Review: The product works fine for simple data transfer purposes. But my problem is with their customer disservice department. I have been running from pillar to post to get mail-in rebate from the company - no luck. The rebate form asked for the ORIGINAL 12 digit UPC barcode. When I sent this in, after about a month, I got a card asking for a PHOTOCOPY of the 12 digit UPC barcode. I sent this in and now they want the ORIGINAL again. I remember reading other customers complaining in this forum about this company's attitude towards customers. Somebody should call their bluff - I plan to lodge a complaint with the BBB for starters.
Rating: Summary: A Useful Solution to a Nagging Problem Review: I work in a public library and we offer free Internet access to our patrons. Our connection is a T-1 line that is capable of sustained transfer rates of about 75-85kb/sec. Unfortunately, the only option I have for access at home is dial-up. I get a transfer rate of around 4-5 kb/sec. We do not have CD or DVD burners available to the public or for staff use in the library. Accordingly, transporting/transfering large downloads and files between computers that were not networked was practically impossible. The Lexar Jumpdrive 2.0 solved my problem. My work machine is a fairly lower end PIII 933MHZ with 256MB SDRAM and USB version 1.1. The OS is Windows 2000. The computer recognized the JumpDrive the first time I plugged it in. Within 2 minutes I was transfering files. I've read other reviews that complained about speed issues, but I was able to transfer a 130MB zipped file in under three minutes, and a 96MB file in less than two. My home machine is a custom unit running an AMD XP1800+ processor with 512MB SDRAM and USB 1.1. The OS is Windows Me. Again, the OS immediately recognized the JumpDrive and I was transfering files within minutes. I noticed no discernable speed difference between the downloading and uploading of data between the two computers. I would have given this device a 5 star score but I, like other reviewers, have concerns about the unit's construction- the quality isn't the best. I've seen other similar devices that were much more robust. However, the Lexar price was right, and until or unless I experience a problem I have nothing but praise for this little wonder.
Rating: Summary: Works great with Mac OS X Review: This is a really super little item, I only wish I had bought it a long time ago. I have used it on my Power Mac G4 OS X and have also used it with Windows 2K and both work great. No driver needed! Just plug it into a USB port and you've got another drive to drag and drop files to/from. I use a USB hub & it does require that that the hub is powered (plugged in to an outlet.)
Rating: Summary: This is bloody brilliant!! Review: I already have the Lexmar 128MB and adore it. So I like this one twice as much!! They are so simply to use...don't you wish everything was this easy? Windows 98 users will have to download a driver, but everyone else it's a matter of plugging in and POW - instant use. No software, nothing to install. Your installation wizard will see it, click the bubble and it's ready to use. Perfect example when this is a MUST. My Gateway laptop power system went out. Suddenly, I was on battery and had to get everything off I could before I had to shut it down and send it back for service. I sent all my stuff to CD RW - it went through the process of doing everything and writing, but then when it was done, it says sorry, it could not write it properly as power was starting to go. HAD I had this memory storage, I could have sent all my stuff to this Jump Drive (same amount of time as sent to CD to be written, but then your done!) I can now move them off that computer instead of WAITING for them to be written. This works on any computer, even MACs...no reformatting like with floppys. The Gateway is in NTFS file system and the 3 Ashtons and the PC are in FAT32. Every time I used a floppy on the PC, it would refuse to read it...reformat it says. If you reformat you wipe out anything on it. So the only way to get files there was burn a CD. CD ROM and floppy drives are costly and pain to change out and it seems like their life expectancy is the same as a GE appliance - two years! So this drive replaces floppys - this one holds over 170 floppys and several CD RWs - replaces CDs. No more buying them - so right off the bat you are saving money! And the convenience, when I am writing, I finish, send everything to one of these jump drives - I have it safely protected and can move it to any of my other computers and instantly access the files. This is great for going on vacations, great for taking stuff between work and home, a great back up for all your important files! I have the 128 for everday use and this one for backing up all the major stuff. Super for kids at school or university. Hardly the size of a tube of lipstick or a Bic lighter, this is the perfect stocking stuffer for your computer addict. They will kiss you for it. Only caution, with this being on the USB - be sure to close the connection between the Computer and the jump drive before taking it out - the little icon is on the task bar. Double click it, select the memory storage by clicking it once - then click CLOSE. Same as when you use a camera. Peace of mind and freedom! Never knew they came so cheaply or in such a small package! Writers if you don't have one, you are playing Russian Roulette with your precious works!
