Summary: Great Unit for such a great price
Review: At first after reading all the below reviews about this product and noticing all the negative reviews, I was a bit hesitant to buy the SanDisk 256MB flash drive. []
I figured hey, at that price, what do I have to lose? So needless to say, I bought it.

Upon receiving the unit, one of the first things I noticed was how incredibly small the unit was. They wern't kidding when they said this unit's about the size of a pack of gum. And its even lighter than one too! After using this thing for about a little over a month, these are my thoughts about this product:

Sturdyness: There were many complaints that this unit is rather flimsy. And I must admit, its not the strongest of cases in the world, but unless your throwing this thing around everywhere or stepping on it, its more than sturdy enough for regular wear and tear. Someone even complained that over time, the cap tended to fall off by itself. But losing the cap shouldn't be too much of a problem as the unit came with 2 more replacement caps for a total of 3 straight out of the box.

Price: Shopping around, you'll find that SanDisk is DEFINATELY THE cheapest flash drive around.

Size: As I stated about, this unit really is the size of a pack of gum! In fact, i'd go as far to say that this unit is SMALLER than a pack of gum! Weight wise, this thing is definately lighter than a pack of gum. Its so thin that I can have the SanDisk drive plugged into my USB port and have another USB device plugged into the port right next to it. Thats something that most (if not all) other flash drives out there CAN'T do without a USB cable extension.

Reliability: This is what it all basically boils down to. And despite numerous complaints from other individuals about their units failing, I've never had that problem with mine. I use my SanDisk to transfer large amounts of data between my desktop PC to my laptop and I've found the process to be both painless and easy. I merely plug the drive into my USB port, copy over the files I want onto the drive, then remove it and stick it into my laptop. And I've DEFINATELY NEVER had this drive get stuck in my USB port. In fact, I can't even see HOW it could possibly get stuck. ITS NOT THAT TIGHT OF A FIT! Not loose enough to fall out, but not tight enough that you'd have to force it into the USB port. After using it for a little over a month, I've yet to have the device fail on me.

Conclusion: All in all, this is an excellent product for a very low price. Fantastic price, excellent design, and great reliability, what more could you ask for?!?! My only real complaint is that it dosen't come with a keychain ring. Instead it comes with a strap to wear the drive around your neck. I mean, com'on! Who the heck would wear this thing around their neck?!?!

Summary: Great for moving data between computers
Review: Well, I am a IT consultant and I use to carry a lot of CD's with me, but I've found that the SanDisk 256MB is much better to carry at the moment that you need documents or tools to repair computers.

Even my girlfriend have found a use for it cause she takes a lot of pictures with her digital camera, now is easier for her to move her pictures between our two computers.

It is a great product, the only problem would be when is used with a Win 98 computer but you always can carry the driver in a CD.

Summary: Won't work with Mac Keyboard port
Review: I've been using a 128MB flash drive for about a year and found the space limiting so I decided to buy the SanDisk 256 MB Cruzer Mini. I just opened it and placed it in my Mac's keyboard USB port only to get a "low power warning" saying it wouldn't work. This makes it useless to me unless I go out and buy a powered USB Hub. All the convienence of this device is lost if I have to crawl around behind my tower, unplug a cable, and then plug in the flash drive everytime I want to use it. And of course since I use it primarily to move data from home to work I guess I'd need to buy a powered hub there as well. I guess I should return it but I had to mutilate the packaging in order to get to it. I probably would have been better off buying a second 128MB flash drive and just carry two around.

Summary: No software, and less space than I thought I had ...
Review: I have had this device for about a week, and it has been very useful to me, with no problems accessing data.

However, there are a couple of points that I would like to mention...

The packaging for the device stated that data encrypting software was included. I did not find any software included with my device, and so had to download it from the Sandisk website. It's only a small download, I have to admit, but Sandisk shouldn't say that something is included in the box, if it isn't!

The other thing I noticed is that although the device is a 256MB drive, this is not the actual amount of data I am able to store as there is some space allocated for formatting. This appears to be 3MB per 64MB of storage, so in this case 12MB is used, resulting in there being 244MB left for my data.

This might not be too much of a problem for most users, but it's something to bear in mind if you are expecting to be able to move files that are slightly larger than 244MB, for instance!

Summary: Works as expected
Review: I have had one of these for about 3 years, and in that three years I have had Zero problems with it. It is fast, easy to use, Windows auto detects it and installes the necessary drivers, and it is small enough for my applications.

Summary: Survived the washing machine
Review: Moments ago, I plugged in my g/f's cruzer flash drive, which she had inadvertently left in her jeans pocket when she did her laundry.

She discovered it AFTER running it through the dryer.

That was about three days ago. Before buying her another one, I just now plugged it in (to a remote USB cable -- I didn't want it shorting out my motherboard) and the damned thing works fine.

Summary: A Great Convenience
Review: This is a product that is small and has a lot of storage space. It is convenient to use because you don't have to download anything, you just have to plug it into a USB drive on your laptop or computer and it detects the drive. You only need to drag and drop into the drive. Its way..... more convenient than having a floppy disk. I've had the item for a week now and I love, it even comes with three USB plug protectors in clear, blue and green. It also comes with a neckstring so you can carry it around on your neck.

Summary: survived a 1 hour wash cycle!
Review: You know it is a good electronics product if it can survive a 1 hour wash cycle (with suds and hot-water). it has come in ever so handy, and has never jammed in any of the computer that I have tried it in. I am very impressed and strongly recommend it.

Summary: Good portable storage
Review: Moved all my crucial files to this device and makes it easy to transport between home and work. Picked it up during the BF sales and was able to get 2 for 10 bucks each. 1 for normal use and 1 for the safe.

Summary: Lost all my data
Review: This device performed faithfully for a full year, before dying recently. I have had the same experience that the reviewer "easygoing" had; my computer fails to recognize the device, and, within a few moments, the "blue screen of death" appears, crashing the computer. I made the mistake of relying on this device for my back-ups, and now I have lost close to 256 MB of documents. This problem is extremely unexpected, especially given the praise this device has received. I am thoroughly dissappointed and will definately think twice before purchasing another Sandisk item in the future. If you do purchase this item, be sure to have another means of backing up your data.
