Summary: Excellent hard drive
Review: I bought this a few months ago and am very happy with it. It is quiet, it works well, it is fast, and after 6 months so far it is still working great. It was really easy to set up (XP just recognizes it automatically), and it just showed up as Drive G in my Windows Explorer.

I recommend this with no hesitations.

Review: I love this drive! I feel that I really got my money's worth. There are alot of other options available from other companies with more name recognition (I'd never heard of Lacie). This drive has been reliable, fast, and the part that makes me happiest of all - CHEAP in comparison to similiar devices by other companies. Overall I'm very happy with this hardware, so much that I just recommended it to one of my friends who was in the market for an external drive. I've been working in IT for 10+ years and having equipment that is reliable and inexpensive is always a pleasure.

Summary: Absolute Trash
Review: Lacie are getting the wrong end of the stick from me. The fact that this company refuses to update drivers for old hardware for new versions of an OS is simply a farce in this day and age.

Lacie refuse to develop drivers to support a new OS or even an update. Back in the days of NT they would not even bring out Win2k support for the systems. When XP arrived most of their hardware the year before was simply left to dry up with age.

In short if you buy Lacie then it will only perform to your current system specs. Any changes to the OS and chances are you will be shelling out more doe for new hardware.

CON.

Summary: Great product
Review: No portable storage for me. I bought this 80GB drive to back up my jpg's and it works fine. About $125 at Amazon with a 4 port USB hub. Free shipping, no tax. So far no problems, quiet, quick, easy to set-up. Good tech support from LaCie. Has an off/on switch.

Summary: LaCie 80GB External Hard Drive
Review: Worked as advertised. The only issue I had was to make sure the harddrive file systems on the main drive matched the LaCie. Windows XP uses NTFS and the LaCie came with FTS. The first back-up failed when the LaCie tried to take a file in excess of 4MB (NTFS handles up to 10 MB). Reformated the LaCie to NTFS and ... no more problems. Quite, and fast.
