Rating: Summary: STAY AWAY FROM THIS PRODUCT! Review: I bought one of these and in a few months it crashed and I lost all the data. Unfortunately for me I lost my receipt and the manufacturer wouldn't fix it without it costing me roughly the same amount that a new one cost. Be warned: STAY AWAY FROM THIS PRODUCT!
Rating: Summary: SmartDisk XF120F External 120 GB USB 2.0 & FireWire 7200 RPM Review: Received package in 2 days (free shipping) wow!!! Very easy to install on my imac 9.0 machine. Now I have triple plus space on my machine. Since I have 2 open firewire ports, I just plugged the firewire cable into the imac. Version 9.0 requires installation of software. So far, so good.
Rating: Summary: Not compatible with Mac OS 10.3.6 Review: This hard drive was compatible with OS 10.3.5, but after I used it ONE time to back up my computer, I updated my system, and I can no longer use this stoopid hard drive. It's a bulky, heavy piece of equipment that takes up a lot of space on the desk, too. It's an ugly design. I regret buying it and I wouldn't recommend it to anybody.
Rating: Summary: Excellent portable hard drive Review: What is there not to like about a drive like this? It is small, portable, and runs off FireWire. Because it uses USB2 or FireWire, you know data transfers are going to be very quick. This unit can also soak up abuse because of the sturdy, metal case. I have dropped mine from my shirt pocket a few times (3-4 feet to hard surfaces) and it has the dings and dents in the metal to prove it. I brush it off, plug it back in, and it fires right up. I think this drive is built like a tank, and it has never failed me since I bought it in January.
I don't think you will ever find better than this SmartDisk for portable (or heck, even desktop stationary back-up use!) storage. It is fast, light, small and tough. What else do you need in portable storage? Well, OK... more of it, but that is another issue. :-)
