Summary: Great product but cannot handle extremes
Review: After quite a bit of research, I found that this is the best storage option at the most optimal price and it truly is. I had no problems installing and using it on my Win 98 SE with a 60GB Maxtor drive running on a USB 1.1 port (not 2.0 which should be much faster). Yes, it is absolutely true that you can get it working in under 30 minutes. For the not-so-pushy user, it is more than adequate.

Why the 4 stars instead of 5 - Due to special requirements, I deal with files that are more than 1GB plus in size. When I try to back up the files that are 600 GB plus in size to my maxtor, windows freezes and all hell breaks loose. I have to power-off my computer after that. The tech support is flimpsy at best asking me to check my USB. With a Master's in Computer Science, I have stopped to expect more from them anyway based on their replies or the lack there of. That is why the 4 stars.

Summary: GODSEND
Review: I am in love.
less than 15 mins to put togheter. Instalation was a total breeze. Web page for ADS offered upgraded drivers. USB 2 adds tremendous speed.
What can I say, I have more problems with my vcr. I am spreading the news.

Summary: Awesome Device.
Review: This drive kit is absolutely fabulous. It took me about 15 minutes to set up. It helped me recover old data on an old hard drive and make use of the drive for my laptop as an external drive. It runs pretty quietly. There's a very light hum, but it's easily ignored.

It works pretty fast too; however, I did encounter some speed problems when I run programs off that drive and play mp3s at the same time. The seek time drastically slows. That's not really the fault of the device, as it was an old hard drive that I put in and I am pushing it.

I totally recommend this drive kit if you have spare drives sitting around that you want to make use of.

Summary: Exactly what I needed
Review: USB 2.0 can now reach transfer rates up to 480 Mbps and is backward-compatible with USB 1.1 devices.

I bought the ADS Tech USB 2.0 Drive Kit to achieve 3 main goals: a) Bigger, b) Faster, and c) Cheaper external storage. After researching several other products, ADS Tech's was the EASY winner in all three categories. And even though *Easier* wasn't a requirement, it was a snap to set up (about 20 minutes).

After my computer detected the Drive Kit and HDD, I was able to use FDISK to create a partition then format it just like any HDD. It was VERY FAST and VERY QUIET. Of course, to get the best performance, you must install a USB 2.0 port adapter in your computer. For desktop systems, you can buy a PCI-to-USB 2.0...(they're no harder to install than say...an internal modem). PC Cards are available for laptops.

I first tested my USB Drive Kit on a PC running Windows ME w/built-in USB 1.1 ports. It worked great (faster than moving data across a 10Mb LAN) Then I plugged it into a computer with USB 2.0 ports and it was FANTASTIC. I copied about 50 gigs of MP3 files to it without any problems. I even defragged it as quickly as any other local drive. After using the Drive Kit over an entire weekend, I was confident enough to delete the 50 gigs of data I still had on my internal HDD. The next day, I just turned the Drive Kit off & left my computer running while I was at work. Can't do that with my internal drives.

I didn't like other USB hard drives like those from Maxtor, etc., since they're more expensive and come with built-in HDD's that don't support swapping with other bigger or better drives. ADS Tech did it right. Put in whatever HDD you want. This is a fast, reliablle, & flexible solution for a GREAT price. I bought a USB 2.0 Drive Kit, a 60GB HDD, and a PCI-to-USB 2.0 Port Adapter...

Even though I can put different drives in the kit, I'm going to buy another one... GREAT PRODUCT. I recommend it for anyone who wants an inexpensive, external, transportable, storage solution.
