Summary: A letter to Archos support
Review: Dear John:Well, initially I was under the impression that the Archos Jukebox 6000 needed specifically and only either MusichMatch or Real Player files according to what the people on the other side of the phone were telling me about their player. Then, out of curiosity, I simply copied over some of the SoundJam files I had pre-prepared in my hard-drive and created a new play list using the provided MusicMatch software. Low and behold, the player played the music just fine and in a row. You see reviews and the manufacturer say that A) This device supports Real Player and Music Match (unfortunately I have a thousand MP3s in SoundJam), and, B) No play list is possible from a Mac. But, your instruction booklet says you can create a play list for Macintosh on page 12 so I ignored what was told to me on the phone and it worked. At first the Jukebox seemed a little unwieldy for a Mac user that I am, but now it's just another hard-drive with vast capabilities for travel entertainment. By the way, I have only been working with MP3s for the past two weeks. I love the size of the Jukebox, it's portability, even though the headset, as other people have said in reviews, is not itself very good. Thank you for your reply to my e-mail. Summary: A Blessing!!
Review: This product is such more better than the Creative Jukebox. But just to clear things up, the Creative Jukebox is NOT SDMI compliant. It can be in the future, but just because it does not allow uploads does not make it SDMI compliant. The Archos is lighter and provides a better battery life than the Creative. It actually have a patented technology that saves the hard drive in case of a fall. I'd take this any day over the Nomad. It's cheaper too!!

Summary: Better than Nomad Jukebox.
Review: Unlike Creative Labs, Archos did not bow down to the recording industry, and did NOT make the Archos SDMI compliant. This is a good thing. It means you can upload all your mp3s to the Archos 6 GB Jukebox 6000 and (unlike the Nomad Jukebox), you can DOWNLOAD THEM BACK TO A COMPUTER. Archos is a company well-known for its hard-drives, and they have (finally) introduced a multi-gig mp3player with great features. This is a product worth the money, and was bought (with change leftover) with credit from returning the Nomad.

Summary: Piece of garbage..throw it against the wall
Review: This product has OTB (out of the box) failures galore. I am not a demanding person of sound quality but here is the skinny: Shoddy workmanship on control button, lousy support, no documentation that helps with troubleshooting or even has simple instructions to shut it off, support software package failed to install on my computer and generaly faulty at birth. The hard drive immediately failed and the unit sounds like a mini 747 at take off when the hard drive is accessed. AVOID IT AT ALL COSTS..IT IS GARBAGE.

Summary: Not perfect, but unbeatable (so far) at this price
Review: I have been using the Archos Jukebox for about two weeks now. The sound is great and the headsets are acceptable. The only problems I have noticed are very occasional "static" when playing a song (resolved by pausing and pressing "play" again), and the also very occasional gap during playback. Other than that, it works great and it's really unbeatable at that price. The documentation is totally worthless, so here are some tips: 1) update to the latest firmware ASAP, before you move any MP3s to the box. 2) Just in case, have a backup of your music. 3) Get a second set of NiMH batteries (there are larger capacity ones) and a suitable recharger. Amazon has both. There is a little pocket in the carrying pouch that is perfect for the extra set. 4) Read the release notes for the latest firmware. It explains some great new features to edit playlists on the box and to queue songs. 5) Undocumented feature: press and hold the "on" button during playback, use the +/- keys to increase/decrease volume without going to the menu. Press &hold On and then the Stop key: disables keys so they don't get pressed accidentally. 6) Don't bother with the MusicMatch software. I use CD-DA extractor to rip and Winamp to build lists. It works fine. I have seen no reason to install yet another software package on my PC. My wishlist for the next firmware: get rid of the gap and the static, and do seamless track-to-track transitions with no gaps (right now there is 1/8 second pause between tracks)

Summary: Buyer beware
Review: My Archos Jukebox 6000 was defective right out of the box. When I contacted their customer service, the representative suggested I try standard batteries instead of rechargeable ones. When this didn't solve the problem I contacted them again. They then informed me they would repair the unit for "a flat fee of $65.00".

Summary: good...but not that good
Review: Bought my archos 2yrs ago. Astonished by the amount of available space. Ended up converting and downloading most of my music colection into it. Used it evry day. It finally died a couple of weeks ago first due to battery connections stopping the re-charge, then catastrophic failure of the control buttons. Very Sad, much missed. ow looking for a replacement.

Summary: Waste Of Money
Review: I think i need to start by addressing the numerous bad reviews this mp3 player has gotten. Mine works fine, no problems, however, many people complain that theirs breaks or doesn't work. I think what happened was that many of the players that were made were defective. However, mine works fine, with no problems. Its a very good mp3 player. IT has soooooo much space, this is what led me to buying it. If you want a good quality mp3 player with a lot of spcae this one is for you. It;s pretty durable and i haven't had any problems with it. to add songs to it you just connect it to your computer with teh cord they give you, and tehn you drag and drop files onto it, couldn't be easier. The sound quality is also very good. The problem i have with the player are the extremely annoying headphones. They look cool, they're blue and silver, but they are too big, and the way that they are designed hurts your ears. The cool thing is that the earphones do have a volume adjuster on them. If you really think its a big problem, just go out and get some headphones. Overally, i really enjoy my mp3 player, and think it works really well

Summary: Great...till it stops working
Review: I researched buying the product and was genuinely excited about buying it. When I got it, it looked great and hooked up easy enough to my computer. After i had loaded it up the problems started. The machine crashes day after day and now i use it as a door stopper. Dont try emailing for support, they won't reply. D'ont touch the product.....if you are unluckly like me, you will have wsted your money, and archos dont care. |Buy something else!
