Summary: Not as good as an iPod
Review: Both the iPod and the Archos Jukebox have 10 GB and are rechargeable, but the iPod beats the Archos Jukebox in several key areas: size, battery life and transfer speed.

SIZE: The small and compact iPod is so much easier to carry around than the Archos. The damn Archos barely fit in my pocket.

BATTERY: Compare the stats. The iPod has a longer battery life.

SPEED: The worst thing about the Archos, besides its chunkiness, is the slow USB connection. The iPod has an ultra fast Firewire connection allowing you to add several GBs in minutes. The Archos takes over an hour to load the same amount of music via USB. *Note: the 20 GB Archos comes with Firewire, not USB.

I returned the Archos Jukebox after a couple days because the the above reasons. My Apple iPod works great on my PC too. I use the Xpod Windows software at work and iTunes on my Mac at home.

Summary: Great MP3
Review: This has to be the best MP3 player/record on the market. It holds my whole CD collection and is very portable. I also have the PSA-PLAY 120 by Nike, this is a great compact player but it doesn't have the ability to hold too many songs not to mention whole CD's. I paid 259.99 for my Archos player/recorder and love it. I'm recording stuff on it right now...Metallica, Adam Sandler,Howard Stern, some pictures,a short video and a couple of files for work on Monday. What other MP3 Player can do that and its the size of a walkman. The other jukeboxes on the market are just like CD walkmans. What would you rather carry a cd size walkman or a cassette size walkman. And you get 2 sets of 4 of very good rechargeable batteries. This is the best MP3 Player/Recorder/HardDrive and ITS TOTALLY PORTABLE.....If you're looking for a MP3 Player/Jukebox get the Archos 10 or Archos 20 Player/recorder. BUY YOURS TODAY, I LOVE MINE...

Summary: Heavy!
Review: I sold mine after a few weeks. I found I was using my Rio 500 with 128mb and not wanting to use the Archos because it was too heavy. The Rio I can just put in a shirt pocket and have it with me all day, no problem. The Archos would be like putting a big lead weight in your pocket. Also, the lettering scrapes right off, at least it did on mine. Sound is excellent, and if you want to carry a heavy mp3 player that can hold tons of music, this is for you. Personally I like my Rio 500 much better, and if I want to have alot of music I can use my mp3 cd player and bring cd's.

Summary: A Over-All Great MP3 Player/Recorder
Review: I have had this thing for about a week now and can't put it down! I love it and all it's features. A lil on the heavy side though, and not extreemly portable was a -. And the interface is kinda slow sometimes. But those cons where not enough to deter my over-all satisfaction with this player. I suggest to anyone who needs/wants a good MP3 player with plenty of space. I dont know what will do with 10 gigs!!!!

Summary: too delicate
Review: In theory it's a great gadget but it breaks so easily!
We bought three of those for last Xmas and the three of them are now defective, one in the display, the other in the batteries compartment, the third gives and error while playing.
The headset that comes with it hurts after 1 hr or so or wearing it.

Summary: Not Quite Perfect, But Pretty Close
Review: This product really deserves 4.5 stars but I decided to round down because it does have some quirky flaws. First, the quirky flaws:
1) It needs a separate volume control (i.e jog shuttle control), you have to drill down a couple menus before you can change the volume.
2) The manual is nearly useless. Seems like it was written in another language then translated back into English.
3) When you charge the batteries (I still haven's figured out where they are yet), it doesn't tell you when they are done charging....kinda odd. Maybe that's a firmware issue.
4) Headphones are junk, but they usually are. They do have a volume control but I recommend a good sony or seinnheiser pair if listening on an airplane.
5) The design is kind of clunky and button design and feel could be improved upon. (I bought it for it's small size and features)

The gripes above are few and far between because the product works exactly like it is supposed to (if you're tech savvy). It shows up as another hard drive on your desktop and you can drag and drop as you please. I've used it transport large files back and forth between my laptop and desktop as well as for my music collection. Also, this product is nearly half the size as of the Creative Labs version and in my opinion, has better sound.

After doing a lot of research on various internet sites and looking at electronics stores, the Archos stood out. Mine had no problems out of the box and performed perfectly. I haven't tried the recorder function of the player yet but am pleased it has a digital input/output to connect with my stereo at home or in the car. On the average, the internal rechargeable batteries have lasted around 8-10 hours (excellent for a hard drive player). Everything can be organized by folders on your computer or on the player (pretty nice) and you can set up playlists however I group everything by folders. The menus are pretty intuitive and decent. Song information is displayed by the file name and the ID3 tag which is standard.

If you want a cool device that doubles as a portable hardrive and recorder, there really isn't anything out there that beats the Archos right now. However, I imagine the IPOD will wants they decide to make it compatible with a PC. Highly recommended despite its flaws!

Summary: FAN OF 10 GIG RECORDER
Review: Archos has had a tough time in the past, the first round of these mp3 harddrives were not the most impressive sight. However the new round is awesome. The 10 gig hard drive is great, i put whatever i want on it, the sound is good and its easy to use. The manual and the software however fall way below decent. the product is great and i take mine everwhere, i recomend it. 5 stars......

Summary: Still some kinks, but good deal
Review: Good things:
- The sound is good. Surprisingly good bass.
- Batteries do last around 10 hours. Batteries run out faster if you do recording.
- Very easy to plug to USB to transfer files.

Weird things:
- There is a subtle, but detectable, buzzing/whining in the background. It does not get louder as you increase the volume. You can hear it if you press pause while playing a song. This won't be noticeable if you listen to pop or rock, but will be noticeable if you listen to classical or showtunes. Other users seem to think it's due to electrical interference with the audio signal. The easiest workaround seems to be using earphones with inline volume control, and decreasing the volume on the inline control will get rid of the buzzing.
- If you grab the battery casings too hard, or push too hard on the blue rubber corners, the unit will turn on or off. So when you try to take the unit out of the plastic packaging and it turns on suddenly, this is why.
- Some people think the batteries are incredibly difficult to change. I was able to remove the battery covers with my fingers alone with no problem. You need to push outward, and then remove the cover upward.
- The paint on the buttons comes off easily.
- The backlighting stays on when you recharge the batteries. To avoid this, you turn the unit on, wait till the backlight goes off, and then plug the charger in and it will charge with no backlighting.

Summary: This is what makes it what it is.
Review: Ok, For all thoes people who put bad reviews about the music Quality, it is fine. This thing is a HARD DRIVE, the quality is EXACTLY THE SAME as the quality on your computer, unless you changed some options in the software to increase Transfer speed/Storage memory on the unit. If you have low quality music on your computer, you will have low quality on the mp3 player. Also, it may be the headphones. I found nothing wrong with this unit, it is cheap, and not all show like the Ipod's are. I upgraded my Archos Jukebox by puting in a new 120 gb hard drive, that you can get for $80. P.S. By opening you'r unit, you will void you'r warrenty. Do not do that unless you know what you are doing. Also, find instructions on a web site. I or Amazon can not be held responsible for what ever happens to you and/or your hard drive and Archos Jukebox.
