Summary: a pretty good radio for the starting DXer
Review: This was the very radio i started with and it did me great untill i got me a much better one the RadioShack DX-399 i am real happy with that one at the time. the SG-622 has an excellent speaker for such a small radio infact the clearest speaker i have heard in a pocket radio like this one. If you listen to FM quite a bit you will be very happy with it. infact i could pull stations on FM from 90 miles away with the antenna full extended. not bad for the money but the reason i am giving four stars is because i think Sangean can do a little better by adding an antenna jack on the side. for this price tag and good name you can't go wrong with with it.

Summary: I can't believe this radio can do all this!
Review: This little radio not only has terrific reception but it has excellent sound quality. The speaker can't be more than 1 1/2" in diameter but it has super high fidelity and tone range. While an avid shortwave listener, I enjoy the FM just for the sound.

Summary: I'm new to short wave radios....
Review: I'm new to short wave radios, so I didn't want to spend a lot of money on one. I had bought another short wave radio from another store, but this Sangean is much better in terms of reception. Of course, I don't know much about what's on short wave yet, but I already have picked up Taiwan, Ukraine, Switzerland, Germany, and others. I didn't pick up any of those with the other short wave radio (I sent it back to where I bought it). I bought this short wave radio based mostly on the reviews of the people who wrote one. I do wish it had a lighted dial so it could be used in the dark, and I wish it had a little guide to tell some about what stations are on what frequency. Still, I like it a lot so far!... I am still very impressed with this Sangean short wave radio.... In my opinion, the recepton and sound are both better on the Sangean. ...I take this radio with me when I travel, since it's so small and light. I still strongly recommmend this radio, even though I still wish it had a night light so you could use it in the dark.

Summary: A great little radio
Review: I have been using my Sangean for a few weeks now. The reception is great. While I bought it for the shortwave reception, I find that its AM and FM reception is remarkable. I have also used it to listen to Chinese and Japanese shortwave broadcasts. Its small size makes it very portable. As a new shortwave listener I was surprised and pleased by the variety of programs that were available and clear through this little gem. If you are a student of languages (or know one) this radio is a great low-cost way to hear native speakers in a variety of tongues.

Summary: Big Bang for the Bucks
Review: I have been listening to shortwave for over 40 years- since I was in elementary school. While I have had lots of radios with more "bells and whistles," I have never had a radio which gives so much value for the money. At the sale price it is a real steal. It is a great radio for the merely curious as well as the more experienced user who wants a convenient portable. It is very basic and very good. There are no sleep timers, alarm clocks or digital tuning; but there is a lot of radio in very small package at a fantastic price.

Summary: Nice things come in small packages
Review: The Sangean SG 622 is one of the best shortwave radios I have ever encountered.The reception is excellent and the sound is crsip for a speaker this size. The surprizing part is the very low price. An excellent small radio to pack for a vacation to pull in many stations when one finally has the time to pull in the various shortwave radio stations.

Review: Its hard not to like this little radio. Its relatively small and light, very good sensitivity and fair selectivity. Excellent sound quality and long battery life. It can fit into a shirt pocket but is a bit heavy to carry there -- it will do better in a jacket pocket. Tuning can be a little difficult due to the small size of the unit but at Amazon's price its a great buy. The FM sounds particular good! Highly recommended. For someone who wants to listen to the more powerful shortwave or wants a small travel radio this is good choice. I use this radio more than any other that I own.

Summary: Good second/portable/emergency radio
Review: If you're serious about shortwave, this isn't the radio you want, but this radio is great as a "do- I-want-to-pursue-this-shortwave-thing-further" radio, or as a lightweight travel rig. It'll will bring in the higher-power shortwave stations: BBC, Radio Netherlands, Radio Japan etc. Sound quality is quite good. Like most analog radios, knowing what frequency you are on is impossible, but for casual tuning, or to get a taste of what shortwave has to offer, this radio is fine. It's also small and light enough to make a decent travel portable (and cheap enough that if you lose it, it's not the end of the world.) And, its a good radio to toss into your emergency preparedness kit. It will perform better with an external antenna "boost" - just take a 10'-30' piece of wire, attach a couple of alligator clips, and save yourself $15 by not buying a "reel in" antenna.

Summary: Listen to the World from out on the Farm
Review: I was very skeptical about a $30 shortwave, so I bought the $10 wind up antenna for it which does make the reception better. I live "way out" in the country (which is probably why I get better reception than someone in a city) and I can listen to stations from around the world. BBC World Service, Voice of America, others from Australia, China, Russia, South America, Europe, Canada, Middle East (though not in English)...as well as all sorts of Christian Broadcasting (including EWTN/WEWN). Listening to news from someone else other than American media helps to get a more rounded view of situations, as well as what works in other governments and what doesn't, and a lot of other things we might not hear about without this radio. It's been great fun. It's not perfect (is squeeky with the weaker signals), but pretty darn good for $30, though I do highly recommend you get the extra antenna and an adapter so you can plug it in. The radio, antenna and adapter cost me around $50-$60 total. Still a good deal. Reception is better at night.

Summary: This cheap radio simply works
Review: This cheap radio simply works. It can only receive strong signal of international stations. It has poor nearby station rejection. This radio has very poor sensitivity in all bands. For example, I live in San Francisco and I was unable to receive KLIV1590 a San Jose station. The nearby strong station 1550 just overwhelms the signal. Shortwave major bands 19m, 25m, 31m, 49m all have poor reception. I will NOT recommend this radio for everyone who like to listen to shortwave program. But I will consider that this is an earthquake prevention radio since it has very light weight and can receive local stations.
