Rating: Summary: Yes, you CAN turn off the sleep timer Review: To the reviewer below: To turn off the sleep timer, all you do is hold the red sleep/on button for a few more seconds and then you are out of sleep mode.
Rating: Summary: Annoying Features Review: What I like about this radio is its slim profile, easy to tune knob and that it has all its operational knobs on its easy to read face and not scattered on every side. What annoys me is its mandatory 90-minute maximum playtime before it shuts itself off to save battery power even if it is plugged into an AC outlet. It would be nice if that feature could be disabled. Another annoying feature is every time you turn it on it blinks the set play time for several seconds rendering all other functions unworkable until it stops blinking, so if its too loud or if you change your mind you can't immediately turn it off until it stops blinking. It also displays a clock icon in the lower right corner of its screen but its just a picture and does not tell the time which is rather silly because it displays this icon only when the time is displayed. It would be nice if it displayed the time and the tuned station together. The button to display the time while the radio is playing is small and takes getting use to. More annoying is the station drift that requires a lot of retuning attention. I don't use short wave so I can't judge that but I tried it and only once got a Canadian station for about three minutes. All my other attempts for short wave were just dead silence. Also I'm not happy with the antenna; mine pulled apart several times while I was extending it. With this said all in all I like few things about it. It tunes in stations where other radios will not. It accepts an additional FM antenna to be plugged into its back. I like that because I only use FM. It's handsome. I also compared it to every other radio I found on the market and this particular model suited my needs the best because it fits my shelf. Once again I like the slim design, all knobs on the face, dial tuner, large display and for an old boy that grew up listening to the radio it has a warm nostalgic bedside appearance. However for the price I wish I purchased the Sirius satellite radio because it's more suited for remote listening. My final annoyance is this Grundig can't be played near a laptop without annoying interference and static. It's another over priced product not worth your investment. My three stars are credited to the design not it's function. Did I mention how annoying it all is?
