Summary: This is a great solid product.
Review: Hard drive technology keeps improving each year. IBM has been dominating manufacturer in this sector for last few years with advancement in technologies that were beyond competitions. You do pay 5-10% premieum on top of other brands but it is well worth it for its reliability and technology. This drive was no exception. I use it for probably most hard drive intensive task. (dv video editing) It performs admirably and reliably. What more can someone ask about HDD. (It is also far quieter than most 5400RPM hdd which is unusual for 7200rpm HDD).

Summary: Great Drive for a MAC
Review: I grew up throughout the 90s as a big supporter of western digital drives and used them exclusively for every machine I owned over the years. I started with a 40 meg, moved up to a 540 meg, then a 1.2 and finally a 3.1 gig in my last machine. Last year i was building a new box and my 1.2 western digital died, which was the first time I had had that happen, so I decided to read around and try a new brand of drive, Eventuallhy I wound up with this IBM 30 Gig drive after lots of research and reading up on the drives available. Luckily for me, everything I had read before buying it was dead on.

The drive has been very reliable for the 8 months I have had it, always performing at a very acceptable speed, and doing so in a very quiet manner. After years of louder drives I was really surprised at just how quiet this drive was compared to my older Western Digital drives. With its ATA 100 interface the drive moves along really nicely, making the need for scsi in a home machine really something of the past. In a server based environment SCSI still has merit, but for home use the combo of speed and price that ATA 100 has is unbeatable. Ther are larger drives out now, but for the average home user 30 gigs is more than enough room, and for someone who already has 1 large drive and just needs a little more, the price on this drive makes it a great choice.

Summary: Great Drive for a MAC
Review: I installed this in my Mac (Starmax 5000). It replaced the original 2 gig IDE drive. Although the box and installation did not mention that it was MAC compatible - other Mac Sites have confirmed the its compatibility.

Installation was a snap, and the drive is very quiet and fast.

Review: I was amazed on how much this IBM drive sped up my computer. I am not even running it at ATA/100 because I have an older motherboard (ATA/33). I am very pleased with its performance.

Summary: Very Quiet and Very Fast
Review: I'll second the comments about how exceptionally quiet this drive is. It's very, very fast, too. I couldn't be more pleased.

Summary: Attention music fans!!! You need this
Review: If you are like me you have a couple thousand songs eating up your hard drive. I got sick of having to keep switching disks to listen to my favorite tunes while surfing the web. I installed this driver and now I couldn't be happier. The installation was alot easier than I thought! I have also been comparing prices and this price is about average. I recommend this product with 5 stars.

Summary: Not recommended
Review: In the first month of infrequent use, it constantly makes scratchy or "clinking" noises. Found bad sectors after a thorough disk scanning. It's not very reliable and just noisy when it's spinning. Fortunately I only use this drive for games and not for critical data, but I still get frustrated for losing my game data. Even though the scratchy sound seemed to have disappeared now that the bad sectors are marked, but there are still occasional clinking noises. This problems seems common in drives of this model even in other sizes (especially the 75GB).
