Summary: Portable storage nirvana
Review: Bought the Storix 20 GB USB 2.0 portable hard drive and it works as advertised -- I am very happy with it. The best features are its small size and the fast throughput when using USB 2.0 ports, and no wall wart! This drive is USB powered. The drive is backward compatible with USB 1.1, and you'll obviously get hit with much lower throughput inherent with the old USB 1.1 specification.Bottom line, if your desktop PC does not have USB 2.0 ports and you have a free PCI slot, definitely buy a USB 2.0 port PCI card -- they are cheap and you'll love the extra speed USB 2.0 has to offer. I was thinking about buying an Iomega ZIP 750 until I saw this drive. Uses 2.5" hard drive technology, so TLC is in order when using/transporting this drive. Great drive, great price. I finally have a great solution in this product for portable storage.

Summary: Nice solid performer
Review: Bought this drive to ferry files between home and work. Drive is solidly constructed, though weighs only 5 oz. and is smaller than my PDA. Writes/reads files on my USB2.0 home system 10 times faster than my USB1.1 office system -- really worth getting a USB2.0 card. Gets its power through USB cables and, as it comes with two cables, I have one at work and one at home -- I only need to transport drive. Comes with a nice, tight-fitting leather slip-cover. Very happy with this purchase.

Summary: Great Back-up Solution
Review: I bought the Storix after nearly losing all the data on my office PC. Plugged it in, XP immediately recognized it as a drive. I started dragging and dropping files onto it. Total installation time-less than a minute. USB 2.0 is a huge improvement, this thing is quick! I keep it in my glove compartment and back-up my home and office computers to it every Friday. It fits in my pocket and doesn't require a power source other than the USB cable. Slightly larger than a pack of cigarettes. Highly reccommended as a convenient back-up solution.

Summary: Very nice product
Review: I have had my Storix 20G drive for over 6 months now and it has performed flawlessly. I even dropped it once from a couple of feet and it was fine. It is fast. It is lightweight. It is compact (it will fit in your shirt pocket). And the price is really good.

Summary: Disappointed
Review: I purchased this drive to use with WinXP, Win98, and MAC computers. The Storix worked on all three for a short period and then FROZE.
Here's the full story: MAC OS9: The drivers loaded fine on the MAC but eventually the Storix hard drive stopped working. Windows 98: The power was switched on and at first the driver loaded fine, then my mouse and keyboard (both USB) froze. I was using a USB hub for this machine, which did not have enough power for the Storix (make sure you read the specs from their company website). So I switched to the USB outlet on the computer. The drive letter appeared and the mouse and keyboard returned. I then tried copying some files to the drive. The screen turned blue and displayed "Read Write error.. ..unsaved files will be lost.. press any key to continue". Back in Windows, the drive letter disappeared and an alert told me the Storix drive has been disconnected. Then a Window alert popped up: "Windows has detected new hardware", then "Installing drivers for Toshiba..." Again I manually selected the drivers (saved from the Storix website), finished the installation only to see a window saying device drivers "are not installed". Windows XP: The driver was not "digitally signed" by Microsoft who warns that you could be putting your computer at risk. Windows "detetected new hardware" and proceeded to load a "Toshiba" driver (as far as I know this is not a Toshiba product). I manually installed the Storix driver, but WindowsXP kept re-detecting the device. Meanwhile, alerts kept popping up telling me there was a problem with the device. And finally a window stated "the drive letter is no longer associated with any hardware...." or something along those lines. The Storix hard drive stopped working after that - no matter how many times I turned the power on and off or plugged it in. I have two other USB drives from different companies and they work flawlessly. I had high hopes for the Storix and it's possible that the hard drive was just defective - but I don't really know because Storix never responded to my two emails to their support area.
