Summary: No problems so far.
Review: I received the hard drive a few days ago and would just like to mention a few things. I read a review on here mentioning the drive was not compatible with XP. I am running Win XP Professional (with NTFS naturally) and was able to get the drive up and running and all my data (19GB of my 60GB drive) backed up in very little time at all. I hooked everything up according to the quick start guide, formatted the drive as NTFS (simply went to my computer, right clicked on the drive, and clicked format) and used the Backup software that comes with windows to backup everything. It took about 1.5 hours to backup 19GB. Well, I just wanted to say, the drive seems to be working great so far. There is a very slight whir for about 3 seconds every hour or two but I had no trouble getting it running. After recently having my laptop hard drive crash and losing all my data this reassurance is really nice.

Summary: Great solution to storage woes.
Review: I recently purchased one of these drives and so far, I'm very impressed with it. It was shipped to where I work, and I immediately plugged it in (USB) to my desktop at work to test out the USB 1.1 transfer speeds. The installation was as smooth as possible (win2000) and I was transferring files to the drive within literally 10 seconds. However, the real power came when I got the drive home and plugged it into my main workhorse machine. USB 2.0 is fast. Very fast. I had heard things about USB 2.0 being a shared bandwidth connection, but since this is the only USB 2.0 device I currently own, it screams. The transfer rates and data access rates are amazing, possibly even faster than my master drive. It's fast enough to install and run applications on, and porting it from computer to computer is a breeze. I'd definitely recommend this drive (or any of Iomega's other external HDDs) to anyone looking for an easily portable storage expansion solution.

Summary: Great drive. Easy to use.
Review: I use this drive extensively to store my huge collection of MP3, JPEG and MPG. It works like a charm. No issues on setup or operations. Highly recommend to those that need a lot of storage and high mobility/shareability of their collection.

I wish I got a 120 Gb drive!!!!

Summary: After days of trying, I'm sending this back.
Review: If you have XP and USB 1.1, skip this drive and get something else.

What a waste of time. This sounded like a great external hard drive--80GB, decent price, and backward-compatible with my USB 1.1. However, XP Home wouldn't assign it a drive letter--despite three installations, contacting tech support and spending hours reviewing the articles and instructions on the Iomega site, I still can't get it to work.

The real eye-opener came when I checked the user forums on the Iomega site and found dozens of posts about this exact same problem, with no resolution! In every case, tech support's best options were: unplug it and plug it in again (!), check the connections (!!), reinstall, update the USB drivers, and unplug it (aargh!). While I didn't expect total plug-and-play, a device like this should be pretty close (and I've never had a problem with hardware like this before with XP). I've spent hours on this and tech support was no help at all, even though the forums indicate that this is an ongoing and consistent problem. Save your time and spend your money on something that will work easily...I'm returning it in the morning.

Summary: works on XP/Win98
Review: Installation went on both my system (XP,WIN98) without a hitch.
I only have usb 1.0 so i can't comment on it's true potential. but for the ball park figure. expect about 20 minutes to transfer 700Meg data using usb 1.0 settings.

I knock one star out for not having a power switch. It just doesn't feel secure pulling power out of disk that stores all the information. especially when you can hear some motor running inside that either can be a fan or disk itself... ( hard to ignore the noise it produces when computer is off. just seem unnecessary wear...)
Also, it comes with pretty big power adaptor that isn't pictured here.(something to think about if you plan on traveling with it)

overall, I'm happy with the price and jobs it's getting done for me.

Summary: Nice software bundle.
Review: Pros: Strong software bundle: Norton Ghost 2003 and Iomega Automatic Backup....Good price (although just went up).

Cons: Noisier than other external hard drives I've owned....No on/off switch!

Summary: Hold on to your hat!
Review: Two words describe this hard drive: BLAZING FAST! I have never seen an external hard drive copy files in a blink of an eye. Just install from the CD, connect the USB cable, and within a few minutes you are up and running with an 80GB hard drive. Iomega gets an A+ on this product. I have purchased similar products (Zip 750 MB Zip Drive, Zip 100 MB, and CD-RW) and I will continue to do so in the future.
