Summary: I Got a Lemon One
Review: But not anymore. I have to say, after looking around for the longest time, this little hard drive impresses me everyday. At 7200 rpms, and with 2.0, I've come to think of it as just another harddrive on my system. Transfer times seems to be incredibly fast, as it only took 30 minutes tops using explorer to back up over 3 gigs of data. There is only one draw back with it: it doesn't automatically power down when you shut your system down, so you have to remember to turn it off. But other than that, it's fantastic.

Review: I bought this Item because of the review, but when I try to install it in 3 different computer, it couldn't recognize the drive! I call the customer service and said to me to download the updated driver in their site, I downloaded the update and still not work.

I will return this product and get another Brand.

Summary: Super fast and easy too use!
Review: I did a lot of shopping around and looking on product review pages before I decided on what external hard drive to buy for my daily date backup's. I finally decided on the Buslink because of some recommendations, the speed, and it having USB 2.0. So far i'm very happy with this device. It was extremely easy to install on my Win. XP operating system just plug and play. Also the Retrospect backup software works great. The only complain I have is to cd that contains the drivers and Retrospect software isn't put together very good. The software didn't start automatically for me and I had to search for the right .exe file for the software. I also had to search the disk for the file that contained the Retrospect users guide for some reason it didn't install with the program. Over all I would highly recommend the Buslink USB2.0 40GB hard drive.

Summary: Love it!
Review: I have one of these for my XP computer, one for keeping personal data, and just ordered another one for this older ME machine. True, you can't boot from this drive, but it has saved my bacon more times than I can tell you. For XP, if you download an updated driver, just run the install even when it mentions SCSI--just "install anyway" and it works well. I like mirror copies of my hard drive, and run software that backs up as much as possible from the hard drive; then from Explorer if something breaks, you can copy the folder back to the hard drive, being careful not to erase crucial system files that weren't copied to the Buslink. Excellent product!

Summary: Works Great!
Review: I must say this is one of the best purchases I have ever made. I own a laptop that only had 6 gigs of hard drive space. As a college student I knew I would need a lot more space. The BUSLink UII-4072E External USB 2.0 7200 RPM 40 GB Hard Drive was the perfect buy. Not only has it worked well with my laptop running Windows XP Pro, but I also can take it home and use it with a laptop running Windows 2000 Pro and a PC running Windows 98. The great thing about it is that it is just plug and play with Windows XP.

Summary: Gets the job done!
Review: I've owned this device for about a year now. I use it on two different computers (one an old 366 Mhz Inteva [Win98SE] and on a 2.4 Ghz Sony Vaio [XP]). This thing says it's compatible with Win98SE and up (no earlier versions). Installation should be no problems (my Vaio recognized the device without use of the disc). However if you have an older computer as slow as my Inteva, there's potential for lots of CPU use and lag when trasfering to and from the device (may lock up on you if you're doing other things while transfering files to the drive). It's USB 2.0 compatible so that makes a HUGE different of how fast files can transfer to and from compared to USB 1.1 (about 40 times faster/slower difference). It works very well on my Vaio. I brought this over to a friend's house one day to transfer her files, her 2 year old kid took it and dropped it (just about slammed it) on her carpet floor... As shocked as I was, the device still operates properly. Although, the front part of the drive came off, it simply snaps back on. This thing seems very durable, in terms of operation.

Summary: It's been a year and a half I'm waiting for my $30 rebate!
Review: If you're going to buy this product with a BUSLink rebate... don't waste your time and money. They don't honor their rebates. They made me send the info (barcode, receipt, etc) twice - but never received my $30!!!

Summary: Use for short periods only
Review: The drive is working fair, easy to use with all my machines, but I can only perform about 30 MB of transfers before it hangs. So far, I just turn the drive off, wait a minute, and turn it on again and I can continue my transfers. But everytime it hangs I am fearful that my data will be lost. Also, I have to make sure I am copying and pasting all files between the drive and the computer -- if you just move files, the file it hangs on is lost. The drive should definitely be turned off as soon as your transfers are finished.
