Summary: DEAD after 1 day.
Review: Currently trying to get the Drive replaced - will add additional comments after the replacement drive is throughly tested.
Read Below:
The HDD was physically installed on my Netvista IBM (which is currently using Quantum Fireball 20GB HDD & Maxtor 80GB HDD).
-After installing the HDD, the auto detect was successful in detecting Maxtor 60GB HDD.
-Downloaded the Maxtor 'Max blastII' and formatted HDD to NTFS specs with partition of 50 / 10 (NTFS/FAT32) to ensure 4kb cluster size.

-Used the MaxBlast tools to copy image from my boot drive (Quantum Fireball) to the Maxtor 60GB boot partition (I.E. 50GB NTFS partition).
-After successful imaging process, The new HDD was used to boot up.
-The new HDD booted up without fail and the OS (Win XP) loaded up without fail.
-Apps were running without fail when suddenly the HDD stopped responding and the HDD was inaccessible.
-Attempted to restore the control by a way of warm reboot - No go.
-On reboot the Bios now only detected the 2 previous drives in the system - Quantum Fireball 20GB HDD & Maxtor 80GB HDD.
-Maxtor 60GB HDD is no longer visible with the bios.
-Attempted normal troubleshooting - removed all other HDD and attempted to boot up with the problematic HDD as a standalone - Bios still not picking up the HDD.
-Attempted HDD on another system - still same (Bios not picking up HDD)

Summary: I've tried MANY drives, Maxtor is the best. No doubt.
Review: I do a tremendous amount of video and audio editing - 2 of the most demanding tasks anyone could ask of their hard drive. Since the drive is reading/writing non-stop, it's well known that your hard will likely fail in about 1 year with heavy video editing. This is not average use however. For home use, you can expect many years before your drives fail.
I have used:
sony drives -> about 1 year lifespan
IBM drives -> 8 months lifespan
Seagate -> 6 months lifespan
Western Digital -> 1 week. I returned it. Could be a fluke though
Maxtor ----------> NOT ONCE HAVE THEY FAILED. I replace them after 2 years regardless.

In short. I've tried them all. Now, I will only use Maxtor drives and cannot recommend them enough.

Summary: Excellent Hard Drive! A little noisy, but a great HDD!
Review: I have a Compaq system that I have been rebuilding ever since I purchased it. I keep on taking parts and components out and putting new ones in. The only thing that I have not added on to is my HDD. When I purchased my system, it came equipped with an 80GB HDD and I have always been meaning to insert a second "storage" HDD onto my computer. I felt, just recently, that time was here. I purchased my Maxtor 60GB HDD and I must say that it is quite a lifesaver for some computers that are crunched with a little bit too much stuff. If you need to free up some space on your primary HDD, I really suggest buying this one...if you have another bay on your computer, that is! Most people now these days say to purchase hard drives that hold up to 250GB to 500GB of space, but if all you need is just a little bit of storage, I really, highly suggest this one for starters.

Review: I like the brand and the price. the copy utility is working only if your old harddrive had no bad sectors.

Summary: Great Storage Solution
Review: I purchased my drive from one of the big office supply stores with rebates and coupons and got it for less than a doller per GB. Maxtor drives are easy to install and come with software to help get them partitioned and formatted. A detailed instruction manual for installation is included as well showing all jumper settings. I installed mine on a Win XP Home system and it was a snap. Only negative is that the drive is rather loud during use. Not bothersome loud but you do notice it compared to the original 20 GB drive that was in the system (also a Maxtor). Have used Maxtor in the past and never had a failure. Good Drive

Summary: Dead after a week
Review: I purchased this drive to go with a new system I was building. The first week, everything was fine. By week two, booting would take forever. Week three was the breaking point- the hard drive sounded like a percolator. I had to RMA it to newegg.com.

I know people say Maxtor makes good drives, but the Seagate drive I purchased as a replacement blows this Maxtor away in terms of quiet operation, build quality, and reliability. Usually when I hear a horror story about Hard Drives, its either about a Maxtor or one of the dreaded recent IBM units.

Just be careful. Maxtor trades quality for a lower price point.

Review: I've been using this hard drive in the new computer I built for six months now without any problems. It is extremely quiet and fast, and the price is good. The Ultra ATA 133 interface and 7200 RPM speed is great, and it is very noticeably faster than my old 5400 RPM drive. Before I put my case fan in, I couldn't even hear the hard drive over my super-quiet CPU fan (rated for 25 decibels). Maxtor has an excellent reputation for quality and customer service, including an excellent website. The 8GB Maxtor drive in my old computer has gone 5 years without any problems. The only maintenance I've done on it is to change it from FAT32 to NTFS after I got Windows XP. Having worked in a retail store where the only hard drives we sold were by Maxtor, customers were very pleased with the price and performance of these drives, and only a very, very small amount ever came back. I also used a Maxtor drive in another computer I built, and that one has performed flawlessly as well. Installation was simple with the included screws and 5 ΒΌ"mounting brackets. I formatted it easily with Windows, and haven't had any problems with it whatsoever. I would definitely recommend Maxtor drives over those by Seagate or Western Digital. You will not be disappointed by this drive's performance.
