Summary: When it comes to hard drives, you can't go wrong with Maxtor
Review: Now I sound like a commercial. But it is true. I have five computers in my home office, with a variety of hard drives. Over the past few years I have had 2 drives fail on me. Both contained crucial data that was lost and Both were made by Western Digital. It makes me wonder how Western Digital can sell their products at such ludicrous prices. I replaced one drive with a Maxtor, and the other with a Quantum Fireball, which is now Maxtor Fireball (Quantum sold out of the hard drive market).Total, I have 2 Maxtor drives (a small 6 gig in my internet server)that have been put through the paces (formatting, installing OS) and both run constantly. I have yet to experience any problems with them and will be purchasing a 100 gig drive for my file server. In summation:No, I will not purchase another Western Digital. Yes, I look forward to yet another reliable "workhorse" from Maxtor. They make products that increase my uptime and decrease data loss.

Summary: I don't think I'll ever go back to Western Digital...
Review: After two *BRAND NEW FROM THE FACTORY* Western Digital hard drives failed on me within a year of buying them, I decided to try a Maxtor instead. My 40gb drive has worked flawlessly since the day I installed it. It works just as fast and quiet as the Western Digital. The included software and ATA100 compatible cables included are a definite plus. Unfortunately the warranty the drive comes with isn't as good as the one Western Digital provides, but if the way things are going is a sign of things to come, I probably won't have to use the warranty anyway.

Summary: Don't Think Twice.....Maxtor #1 By Far
Review: I have had this exact drive for about a year now. ZERO problems
I am always adding deleting reformating everything. I have totally beat on this drive more than any computer user. It is almost like i tried to destroy it any way i could but there really is not destroying this drive. When i first got it i even dropped it on a marble floor.(but i don't recommend this if you can help it) Didn't hurt it a bit. Maxtor is one company that has made a name for themselves by making dependable drives and they back it up with the product.

As a added bonus the installation instructions were simnple and easy to understand for a computer geek or novice. That is something that is very unusual for any computer product.

Summary: Maxtor drive, switched at birth
Review: My son purchasd this Maxtor drive for christmas. Opened the box and inside was a Quantum drive, with a note attached stating that Maxtor had merged with Quantum. Also on the note, it stated that the utility programs would not work on the Quantum drive. I find this dispicible if not illeagle. Nowhere in the ad or on the box was there any mention that there was a quantum drive in the box.

Summary: Surprised me. My computer has new life.
Review: I always thought RAM was what you added to give performance boost to older computer equipment. I bought the hard drive for more storage space, but when I put it in my Pentium-II 400 I was simpply blown away by the performance difference. MUCH more notable than when I boosted the RAM from 128M to 384M.

I don't know what's going on "under the hood" or if any other drive would make a similar difference. I bought a 2nd drive about a year ago (this time I was replacing my primary drive) and did NOT notice a difference, so who knows....

Summary: It's not a Maxtor HD, its a Quantum HD
Review: Its hard to review a HD, but I just want to say that this is not a Maxtor Hard drive. This is a Quantum Hard Drive, the box, the instructions everything its from Maxtor, except the Hard drive. Now I know that they merged, but in the product description it should be shown.

Summary: A fine drive, one installation tip
Review: I installed this in addition to the existing 10GB drive on my 3 year old computer. It would not work using my computer's original ribbon cable, but when I used the cable that came with the new drive everything was fine. All and all, I am very happy with it. And now I have 50GB instead of 10, which is great.

Summary: Most space for your $
Review: This is the best deal I could find on a 40 gig drive, I have had little or no problem with the drive except it goes into idle mode in less than 10 minutes. But as far as over all value goes this is the best deal I could find.

Summary: Good so far.....
Review: The price is right. You can't beat the price for this much storage. It installed with no problems and has been running great for several months now.
