Review: Not to mention: you can use this as a portable hard drive as well. Plug it into any firewire Mac and it's a great way to transfer files. Maybe PCs as well if the 3rd party software is released yet.

Summary: Apple wins the pod race
Review: Is it a light meter? a tiny refrigerator? an electronic cigarette case? No, it's iPod! Apple's industrial designers have done it again, creating the world's most beautiful, best MP3 player and a must-have for music lovers who use Macs. Its appearance differs from that in the promotional photos, though: it's really quite stark white, even whiter than the lid of a new iBook. And the back is shiny chrome, which loads up with fingerprints and scratches as quickly as the machine loads up with tunes. I would have liked getting some kind of tote with it, or at least a belt clip--I've had to repurpose a camera case and an earbud caddy from other manufacturers so I can carry it around without damaging it (Apple cautions against dropping it, which is good advice about a music player with such a slippery case). Because the iPod uses a small hard disk drive, access times aren't lightning-quick, and odd clicks and pops interrupt your listening pleasure from time to time. And it's impossible to manipulate the music once it's been copied onto the drive. Perhaps future revs of this marvelous player will address some of these problems. Early adopters, however, won't be disappointed: the magnificent sound quality alone is worth buying the iPod for.

Summary: A Must Have for any firewire user.
Review: Light weight. Versatile. It's a hardrive you can carry with you all the time. I work from different location and this little gadget is a blessing. Transfer files back and forth in seconds. With xPod you can use it with any PC. You just need a firewire card. You can also hook it up in your car with an adapter and you won't need any lame cd/md-changers. The price is a little steep but so far there's nothing out there you can compare with it. If you want something that's both sleek and practical, this is it.

Summary: A tiny glipse of the future--as usual, from Apple
Review: Are we all weary of hearing the words "elegant design" when describing Apple's products? Make an exception, because no other phrase describes this groudbreaking product. The iPod allows users to make the music collection on their Firewire-equipped Macs to become portable. Firewire, a standard Apple helped design (is there a pattern here?) can fill my iPod with every Count Basie cd I own (first rendered into mp3 by iTunes) in less than a minute. And I own LOTS of Count Basie cds! Meanwhile, the batteries recharge through the Firewire connection. And they last a very, very long time. Any sour grapes about this product is likely to be from those who selected the wrong OS to operate in. Sure, it's a Mac-only product. We the faithful are most appreciative of a reward like this. Maybe other folks will have access to these handy devices someday soon, if Apple chooses to develop a Wintel connect. Then again, Macs are cheaper and more useful than ever!

Summary: Great Product!
Review: I especially like the speed of the firewire connection, coupled with the ease of adding or deleting MP3 files to the iPod. Updating your library of recordings on the ipod is automatic and happens so quickly that it almost seems to be instantaneous. Plug it in and it works. Some day I may get around to reading some of the help files or documentation, but so far there has been no need. Plug it in and it works. At the same time the iPod doubles as a portable off site back-up for data at my small business.

Review: Once again Apple has out-thought the competition and redefined the rules.
I've integrated my iPod into the daily workflow of my commercial photography studio, and use it to offload digital captures from my iBook when on location. It's so useful I can't imagine wroking without it. At the moment it carries over 600 MP3s and still has over 1.8GB of disk space for work files which I work on at home or on location.
The sound fidelity is excellent, the search and play dial is one hand (one thumb, really) and doesn't require me to remove my eyes from the road when listening in the car. The iPod updates immediately via Firewire to my G4, adding only the latest tunes that are stored there.
Clients don't believe what they see, they keep trying to stuff it into a lesser category "Oh, it's like the Rio" or " Oh, it's like my portable hard drive". Once they grab the concept they're more than intrigued.
It's a great device, one I can't do without.

Summary: This Ain't Your Daddy's MP3 Player
Review: People always say Apple is all about style, and not about substance. Style they have down pat. If you still doubt the substance, obviously you haven't seen the new iPod. (or the Apple Laptops either.) The iPod kicks similar items in the head with steel-toed boots. This is not just another mp3 player. Sure you COULD just put tunes on it...1,000 of 'em even. The fact that the iPod is a full-on 5 Gig hard drive is what I like about it. I mean, no more walking around with cd-rws or zips or jazzes - none of which fit correctly in your pocket anyway. Nope...now its just the iPod, in my pocket, with the files I need for the day on it. Perfect Portability!!

Summary: Cool? Definitely. Utilitarian? Well...
Review: In one swift stroke, Apple Computer has sought to redefine the portable digital music player. With the iPod's 5GB of space, you can tote around hundreds of digital songs and non-music files too. What can I say? It's ultra-cool, ultra-light (6.5 oz) and you'll want one the second you pick it up in your hands. The LCD display is top notch, and the playback controls are as simple as they get. With the iPod's fast Firewire connection, you can download an entire CD onto the device in about 10 to 20 seconds. Moreover, the iPod's battery is recharged through the Firewire port, another plus. Still, the gadget has its drawbacks: First, compatibility. Only Firewire Mac users are able to use the iPod. Also, there is no record function, and the price is steep. If you're a Firewire Mac user and portable music is a daily routine, then the iPod is a must. If not, admire it, shed some tears and move on.

Summary: Not as good as I thought
Review: Okay, I'll admit that apple's iPod is a very nice MP3 player for us mac users...but it had one tremendous flaw. The iPod is terribly fragile, which is not very desirable in a product that's meant for use during activity. My second iPod just broke after falling off my bed and hitting the carpet. The first one broke after falling about [a few] feet from my pocket to the kitchen floor. It would seem to me if one was going to design a sleek product meant for active use, one might want to make it durabe enough to survive the inevitable accidents that will occur. Sure apple will replace it, but how many times would you want to return your iPod for a new one? So yes, its a great MP3 player,...
