Summary: Still runs like a champ....
Review: I've used my Jukebox 6000 almost everyday since June, and it's been everything i hoped it would be. I mostly use it in my car with the casette deck attachment, but I've been able to apply other practical uses for it. I can upload any of my favorite .mp3s to my friends' PCs/Macs. It serves as a walkman and storage for large files when I'm on the road. The Jukebox is not only limited to music file storage (which is the case with the bulky NOMAD). I've used it to store large mpegs, software installation files, and hard drive backups so I could avoid burning CDs, and lugging around my laptop on some business trips.
With the latest BIOS updates, this puppy seems to run longer too... If you're trying to decide between the Nomad and the Jukebox...... Jukebox all the way! No Contest.

Summary: Coolest looking paper weight ever
Review: I bought one used and its great for keeping paper on your desk but thats about it. The main problem is that it doesn't turn on. Kind of hard to listen to mp3's when you player doesn't turn on. I wrote an email to tech support so we'll see how that goes. (...)

Summary: Never thought it'd be so easy.
Review: I bought this for my wife for Christmas,and was a bit skeptical (...), but I must say that I was pretty impressed. I had to open it up and make sure it worked before giving it to her...To get the negatives out of the way first, get a different pair of headphones - the new behind the head style don't seem to hug the ears tight and the sound is weak. They hurt the tops of your ears after a while also. I hooked up a pair of old sonys I had laying in a drawer and they work better. I was concerned about sound volume also, but after I deleted the 3 pre-loaded songs and threw some of my own on there, the volume seemed fine. It was very easy to hook up and use, and following the Archos webiste's suggestions of setting up folders and subfolders for genres, artists, songs...seemed the most logical way to do it. I like the fact that we can transfer songs to other computers off the jukebox, which can't be done on the Nomad(I had actually thought of getting the Nomad, but just couldn't bring myself to spend that much money for that big bulky thing). It works just fine for me. The music sounds great, treble and bass can be adjusted, but on certain songs it can get distorted. I think the file quality has has an effect on sound quality that some people tend to blame on the player. A car kit is available on the Archos website (the only place I could find it) (...) Overall - great product.

Summary: Great Travel companion
Review: The 6000 is great for traveling as it holds so much commercial free music so to speak. I tried several MP3 CD players for my motorcycle but they all skipped so bad even though they had 90 second or better buffer. I decided to try the Archos Jukebox. It has only failed once in some very heavy construction as it just shut down unlike the others that just go silent until it picks back up (and sometimes not at all). The onboard amplifier is not much to be desired but for driving a home stereo or as I use the cassette adaptor it works perfect and good clean audio but for driving headphones it is very weak. I'll have to say aside from the amplification for driving the headphones I would rate it 5 stars. It looks like they are still having troubles with the firmware as it sure don't give you a accurate byte count. I have over 4 gigs of music in it and it says I have 5,703 MB left. The new update which I am sure is in the units sold now have a resume setting instead of starting at the beginning when you power it up. Also it uses Nickle Metal Hydride batteries and comes with a spare set so don't try to install the spares as you just need to charge it and have fun. Oh yes, Using it for a storage device is also great as well and very easy as it just shows up as another drive. I think though bang for buck is a great unit.

Summary: Very usefull gadget
Review: I was really excited about this mp3 player. I had ordered it and within less than a week I got a hard drive error message. I called tech support - they were quick and asked me to send it back. Within 10 days I got the fixed unit back. It has been about 2 months and I haven't had any problems... The sound quality is pretty decent - I use sony headphones and the quality also depends on the mp3 file itself. It's really easy to transfer mp3 files from my PC to the archos unit. Any previous glitches with the unit have been fixed with the most recent firmware upgrades available from the archos web site. There is an archos jukebox group available at yahoo that people use to talk about the unit - so obtaining help is not much of a problem.
I use the unit everyday to listen to music on my way to work - walking and on the subway. I am really satisfied with this product - its not pricey, compact, and can store about 1500 songs which can be very easily structured via directories and transferred via USB, and tech support has been quick and responsive. Very useful gadget!

Review: I am not satisfied with the instrument at all !!!
First - I got it two weeks ago. ( I live in Israel)
During the next day , the "menu" key stopped responding.
It came back the next day but it works and stops when it likes!!!
Very low quality keypad.
Also I don't like the sound quality of the JB6000 , I compared it to some diskman's and they sound much better.
I did a simple test , I connected a diskman to the "line in" port on the JB - the JB to a sound system , the sound quality dropped comparing to the diskman connected directly to the sound system.
The dynamic range of the JB internal amplifier is thinner than other instruments and this causes the music to sound like there is no base.
I want to return it and get other manufacturer instrument.
Please help me with suggestions....

Summary: Easy to use, great support, tons of space!
Review: This is my 3rd MP3 Player, but my first one with the larger memory using a hard disk drive. Although heavier than my others (which use memory cartridges) I like this one much better. I did a long comparison before I purchased my Archos 6000 MP3 Player and I am not disappointed at all! In fact I am about to buy another one (the one that has a voice recorder). And even better, now you can upgrade them from a third party to up to 40 Gig! One day I turned mine on and got an error message. I called tech support and they told me to send it in and it was replaced immediatly at no charge. I did lose my MP3's, but I had them backed up on my computer so it was no problem to reload them. Just FYI, I think it's great and I have about 100 CD's on it and I haven't filled it up yet. I can't imagine using more than 6 gig unless you are a major music collector, or are doing a lot of recording...or both. :)

Summary: Still working fine
Review: I bought this product a few months ago....haven't had any major problems since i figured out how to use it...u have to understand...anything that involves computers...hardrives...etc...will lock up from time to time....but i don't have any real problems..lol...I don't think it works well..in a physical setting though....ie...jogging...moving around...etc..Its nice to have all my tunes to play in the car....or at work...or anywhere i want them to be. If your not good with computers....and can't figure things on computers out easily....u could have problems setting it up, but once u get the hang of it....you'll be fine. And for all the people who say that customer service doesn't exist.....my email was answered within 24 hours....and helped get me right on track! They even answered my thank you email... :)

Summary: DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT!!!
Review: The Jukebox 6000 has by far been the most disappointing piece of electronics I have ever purchased. I highly recommend that you do not purchase this product and seek other products. I recently purchased a Rio Volt to replace the Jukebox and I love it.
The problems with the Jukebox started right out of the box. A small hairline crack just above the screen caused me worry. No damage to the box had occurred so I assumed that it was a small manufacturing defect and would be fine. The Jukebox worked well for about 2 days of slight playing. It would lock up about once every 2 hours. There is no reset button or off switch so the only way to reset it would be to take out the batteries. This task is extremely hard to do because of the design of the battery doors and will result at a very minimum of damage to the surrounding thin flimsy plastic. After looking over the very poorly designed website, with almost no tech support, I changed the batteries (special Jukebox batteries which can no be purchased at this time. So you only get 1 spare set so don't lose it) as suggested and recharged over night. This made the problem worse. Locks up and hard drive errors happened ever 30 mins or less.
Several e-mails were sent to tech support, which received no response. After calling them on there toll number I was put on hold for 15 mins and basically told to check the batteries and make sure my USB cable was working. Which of course made no difference at all.
At this point I exchanged it for a new, which only made things worse. The new player failed right out of the box. It would lock up during file transfers, and formatting the hard drive (another thing to try if you are having problems). It played for about 2 hours before the major lockups and crashed would start. It now locks up during every song around 1:30 and refuses to be reset. As stated before the batteries have to be removed and it has to be rebooted. Even if I had a working Jukebox (which I'm not sure exist) then there are many problems with it. The screen is hard to read and poorly backlit. The sound quality is terrible. It started to crackle and break up at around 7-8 out of 10. The headphones are cheep and flimsy and sound even worse. The controls are not intuitive and take a lot of getting used to. Switching between songs is slow and causes more errors. This is by far the worst product I had purchased in a long time. Save yourself a lot of time and money and look elsewhere.

Summary: Needs More Power! - among other things
Review: Oh wow! Just what I had been waiting so eagerly for! I had been fantasizing about a pocket sized music dynamo that would work in conjunction with the car stereo, home stereo, and any where headphones could go. The Archos Jukebox 6000 seemed ideal. I still love the idea, but after having purchased one (and having taken it back) I must point out its flaws: 1. The jukebox that I purchased had serious problems in that it would often freeze mid song, would fail to turn on, would freeze mid boot, and would fail in the middle of file transfers via the USB connection with my computer. Furthermore, the light would blink or flutter when the disk was scanning, and the disk would make a surprising amount of noise when scanning. These problems may have been largely limited to my particular Jukebox. 2. My greatest criticism of the Archos Jukebox 6000: Sound Quality and amplifier output. Use headphones with the Jukebox (nice full ear coverage headphones prefered over the included and akward-when-laying-down headphones) and the sound is good; Plug the unit into a car stereo via a tape cassette adapter plugged into the line out 1/4" headphone jack and you will be lucky to here it w/o maxing out the car stereo amplifier. Same thing when plugging the unit into a home stereo using a 1/4" headphone jack to stereo RCA jack converter. In both cases, the Line Out Jack on the Jukebox does not sufficiently amplify the signal. I ended up using the volume adjustable headphone jack whenever plugging then unit into anything, and then I would crank the volume on it to the point of distortion. I would like to see greater wattage output from the amplifier, a higher standard out put from the Line Out jack and a higher sound quality means to connect the Jukebox to either a car stereo or home system. (Is the Jukebox too small to accomodate a set of stereo RCA jacks? That would be the bomb!) 3. Build quality: The Archos Jukebox 6000 is not bad looking, however the battery compartment covers and play/stop button are chincy. The play/stop botton should feel more rubbery like the stereo controls in the Volkswagon Beetle. 4. My other criticism has to do with the software that Archos, on a bright note, updates and makes available for free download. The shuffle command available with the Jukebox version that I used only allows for random to be used within a given folder. Since each of my albums is in its own folder I could only shuffle the songs of one album. The shuffle function should allow you to shuffle the songs within a folder, all folders or songs within selected folders. The idea is excellant one Archos! Keep Trying.
