Summary: Great Product
Review: Archos has been known to make great compact electronics for some time now. The Jukebox 6000 is no exception. While I have to admit, the iPod is way cool, has a much better interface, and it's a bit easier to use, it also costs about $... more (and as I'm writing this, the software for making it PC compatible hasn't been released yet). I have had absolutely no problems with this device whatsoever. While MusicMatch software is provided for ripping CDs, it's not required for use of the Jukebox 6000 (I've seen lots of posts about people complaining that the software wasn't made for the Jukebox 6000). I happen to prefer MusicMatch to just about any other CD ripping software, but if you prefer to use something else, go for it. The Jukebox 6000 is not an SDMI compliant product (Thank God!). What that means is that you don't need to use any special software to copy your MP3s to the device. Most manufacturers belong to the SDMI Alliance (or whatever it's called). Those devices will either prevent you from copying music from your device back onto another machine, or in worse cases (Hello Sony and ATRAC3) will convert your MP3 files to their own proprietary format before copying to your device (which means you need to either rip directly to their format, or save two copies of everything on your hard drive). Being non-SDMI, the Jukebox 6000 lets you just drag and drop MP3 files onto the drive that's created when you connect it to your USB port. There have been a number of Drive Error problems with early units, but those have been corrected with firmware updates. My unit was fine when I got it. You should check out the Archos website about the updates. Even if you have the latest update when you get the unit, some of the new features are not mentioned in the documentation (namely the "hold down the power key" features that appear when your unit is on... Lock, Select, and one that doesn't show up on the screen, but if you hold the power key down and press the + and - keys at the same time, you can raise and lower the volume without having to go to the menu). All in all, it's one of the easiest MP3 players to use that you'll be able to find. No confusing software (Hello again Sony... I have a Sony Network Walkman... which cost more than my Jukebox 6000... it uses the Memory Stick... the software with that is really, really, really bad... and you HAVE to use it because the device will only play ATRAC3 files. Very cool device, not much larger than a lighter... but the restrictions tend to outweigh the "cool" factor). So go out an get your Archos Jukebox 6000 - What are you waiting for?

Summary: Navigation is the Weakness
Review: With a 1000 songs, navigation is key. Unfortunately, Archos comes up short. In order to find a song, you must continually press a button, which moves the list one song at a time. It would be much better if there were a screen that had a list of all of your songs and a wheel cursor that let you quickly scroll down the list to select a song. ....

Summary: Very nice little player
Review: This is an amazing little device that outshoots the competition on many fronts. It does have a couple disadvantages, but compared to the nomad (where you can't fast forward or rewind) I would give it 5 stars. The USB cable makes data transfer a cinch. The batteries last even longer than the estimated 8 hours. You can use ordinary AA batteries if you need to. You can organize the songs into nested directories for easy navigation. The headphones it comes with are crap, but a decent set of headphones are cheap. The charger works well and quickly. The thing is tough. I have dropped it while running and it still works great. When I called support one time, I didn't even get a stupid recording. A HUMAN picked up the phone and said "Hello, Archos." It looks cool, it has a back light, and it's small for what it does. It comes with a nice little case too. You can buy a remote control and car charger from archos.

Summary: Great potential but very flawed
Review: Talk about a dissapointment. I purchased the NOMAD Jukebox for Christmas. The quality was superb, and and I had no problems. But after some deciding, I decided to exchange it for the Archos Jukebox, because the design of the NOMAD was boring, and I figured the Archos would have the same quality. Boy was I wrong. First off, the documentation was probably one of the worst I've ever seen, so I was forced to just try and do this by myself. Installing it wasn't a problem however, just like any CD, but once you load it up, you realize that the musicmatch software is ATROCIOUS! It does not even compare with Creative's Playcenter 2, which is harmonously designed for the NOMAD. Constant errors, problems with downloading, and doesn't even seemed designed for the Archos(because it's not). Don't even bother with tech support. The 800 number is disconnected. As of now, I haven't been able to get a single song in my jukebox, save the three preloaded songs. As for navigation, couldn't tell ya, because I've had nothing to navigate. If I don't get results in the next few days, I am getting my NOMAD back, the better design just isn't worth it if your player doesn't even work. If you're trying to decide between the NOMAD and this, make no mistake, the NOMAD is a FAR surperior product.

Summary: WELL worth your money
Review: First of all its Archos. If you go to their website you will see that these people do not fool around. They make quality products and this jukebox is one of them!
Setting up the box was simple. It took a little longer with me since I am running this of an older Del Laptop. (So, if you have a fast computer the set up will take 5mins instead of 16 mins). Once I plugged in the device windows (ME) recognized it as an external HD and started sorting itself out. The package come with a CD-ROM (I suggest you use it). Once installed the only thing that might catch people who do not know computers that well is making sure that under the prefs. for the device the 'removable' option is set up...this however is well documented in the set up part of the booklet and should not be a prob.
Once I had rebooted my hard drive it was time to try out the machine...WOW! All I did was dump an MP3 folder from my computer onto the drive and after unplugging the device I turned on the MP3 player (which is done but pressing anh holding the 'on' button untill you feel the HD spinning or you are greeted with the version # of the firmware). I plugged in a better pair of head phones (the ones that came with the device where good...the have been upgraded since Archos first came out with the device...more on that later.) and played my 'test mix' which is a mix I made to test the sound of my player (Rap, techno and thumping rock) and all I had to say was WOW...and a smile crept over my face. The sound was GREAT!!!
The headphones that came in the box where a drastic improvment from the one that came before it (my firend got those wow they where terrible). These headphones fold into a small area and when used make your music shound crisp and good. Although I would recommend buying another pair of headphones concidering the expence of the player they where good enough.
BATTERY LIFE: VERY IMPORTANT
I used this player on the plane for 8 hourse and it still told me that the life was full. I then used it the next day and it lasted a few more hours (3.5). I am sure that if I turn it on again I will get another 40. mins out of it. I do not know if this was meant to happen but I got 2x 4 rechargable batterys in my box but I never had to change them until today. So to make a long sorty short it lasted approx. 11.5 hrs. w/o changing. You get rechargable batteries and a charger.
Only issue I have is that the player froze on e twice...which I stopped my pressing (and holding ) the stop button..but it was only when I want into a secific folder so that might be human err.
I reccommend that you check the website every so often to get the firmware updates, it will make your player love you even more.

Summary: Best Hard Drive Based Player
Review: I have seen some bad reviews of this player, and also some outstanding ones, which gave me the impression that it was quite a dodgy player, and that it was unreliable. That is a load of rubbish. I received this player in December, and it was the best £200 I have ever spent. It has been superb. It has so many different features, it has an internal charger(which means that I only have to plug the dc cable into the player at night, and it will charge it for me), and its own case, soit doesn't get damaged. It is alot smaller than most other portables hard drive players, if slightly chunky, it still fits in your pocket. It performs greatly, and has never skiped while I have had it. In fact, even when I go for jog at the weekends, it remains fine. It also holds so much music, I dont think I wil ever fill it. If you are trying to make a decision about which mp3 player to buy, I would strongly recommend the archos 6000, because it is quite cheap, has a large storage capacity, is small, and has more features than any of its competitors. It is superb - and I am not easily pleased.

Summary: Review 1: day of purchase
Review: This will be followed in a month or so with another review on how well it is performing then. I must say the unit is phenomenal. I'm a huge music fan, and have gone through numerous players, ranging from a little normal CD player to an MP3-CD player about a year ago.I was having an insanely difficult deciding between this player and the Nomad Jukebox, as they both were 6GB players and were about the same price. I eventually decided to go with this one based on the battery issue (twice as long and much easier to recharge). I was not so confident in its sound quality and organization, as those reviews always were leaning towards the Nomad. First I will list off the bad points of the player to get them out of the way: 1) You have to charge the batteries for at least 7 hours before they can be used. Minor problem, as it can still be used with the adapter, and I am actually listening to it in that manner as I write this. 2) When it gets to the end of a folder it stops. Also not a big problem, just a few button hits or a playlist and you're good. 3) Shuffle only is within one folder. Again, just make some playlists and you're fine. Just be sure to put them in the root directory. And now for the good! 1) Storage size. Doesn't need to be said, I suppose, but it's still fantastic. 2) Navigation. This was actually exceedingly easy for me. It's not very difficult with the new firmware. 3) The sound. Yep, all those "sound quality is tinny" reviews are apparently for older players. The one I got (which came pre-loaded with version 5.06, which is actually newer than the 5.01h offered on the site, so I didn't need to update it). The sound is great, just you might want to pop the bass to a notch or two up, depending on headphones. 4) The Display. There wasn't a whole lot like the Nomad or the PJB, but it wasn't really needed. Two lines is just fine as far as I can tell. Everything you need to know is shown, and it will scroll along the title if it doesn't fit on the screen all at once. 5) The unit itself. I just think it looks cool. I quite enjoy carrying it around =) 6) Battery life. 8 hours isn't bad at all as opposed to the Nomad's 4 at the most. Plus you can recharge every night, and they give you an extra set, though the unit is intended for battery changing under emergency situations only. 7) Startup time. Hold the on button for about 3 seconds, and it's up. The Nomad can take over a minute, as did my MP3-CD player, so this was quite the nice change of pace. To summarize that, plus add in anything I missed, the player is amazing. Most complaints were made on old firmware, and possibly with older hardware. I just know Archos was backordered up till mine got shipped out, and I found that all the complaints I was worried about were nonexistant. I love my Archos and hopefully my one-month review will just say that nothing has changed!

Summary: Great MP3 player
Review: Before I purchased the ARCHOS Jukebox 6000, I've purchased two other brands of MP3 players. None of the others provide easy MP3 playing: one gave choppy sound and the other doesn't play mp3 files at all! I decided to give Archose Jukebox 600 a try and I am glad that I did. It worked right out of the box, I was able to transfer mp3 files into the Juke box with drag and drop from Windows Explorer, the mp3 files are recognized without a glitch, the sound quality is great with the provided headphone. I'm impressed! The only issue I had was the slow charging of batteries. It takes several hours to charge the battery. You must charge the batteries fully before accessing the mp3 file list. This is the only incovenience I experienced. Overall, the Archos Jukebox 6000 is a great buy.

Summary: Do Not buy this product!
Review: I have posted before...with positive remarks for this product......but now all of a sudden 1 month after the 90 warranty....my player is frozen. I have 120+ songs on the player....and can't listen to 1! All that displays is a bunch of bumbled letters and numbers! It has been like this for a week now...and i don't know what to do to fix it....I emailed Archos a few days ago....they haven't responded. I emailed them in the past over simple issues with the player and they responded within 24 hrs. My take is that they know they have a product on the market that [doesn't work].....and they don't want to respond to my emails. Don't just go on my comments...many others have had this problem with Archos...just check the reviews...many positives are by people who have only had the player for a few days or weeks....give it time...and theirs will break too..If only I had listened to the bad reviews!.....then i wouldn't be out [the money].....! I have never dropped or mistreated this thing in any way shape or form! If all fails..I'm just gonna mail the thing back to Archos headquarters...asking them to fix it...and to bill me....if thats even possible. If I were you...i would not buy this product....the 90 day warranty should tip you off right away! Always look at the warranties and get the extended warranties! (...)

Summary: Get One!
Review: this is a great mp3 player and for the last 6 months its been running really smoothly. At first i looked at all the mp3 players... but looking through the reviews some people gave this thing i wasnt quite sure. Some problems i can relate to, but most have been fixed and i archos have updated the mp3 to make it even easier to use. 1.the 6 gb is perfect, i now can not imagine having a 128mb player. even if you have a few songs you will soon want more. it is also good for 12 hour long drives to florida.
2.The tranfering of the files are quick and easy, you can even put games and important documents on it. 3. many people have complained about the earphones but archos has started suplying new headphones that are much better and much more comfortorble. 4. The navigation is really easy, if you do get a cd player that is compatable with mp3 files dont expect to know what song you are listening to. or expect to find your files with out some memorization of song #'s 5.I ahve had mine for 6 months and as long as the batteries are not completely drained, i have never had one error. 6. the batteries last 7 or more hours w/ a full charge. and they are charge able so that you dont have to buy new batteries every now and then. Archos also include a charger you just plug into your mp3 so you dont take out your batteries or anything. 7. If you buy it at a store make sure you get a warranty, i got mine at compuUSA, after 3 months i lost my transfer cable and stepped on my earphones, so i sent it back and got a new one. 8. the installaation is hard but if you read the manual it is much simpler 9. Great sound, much better than the radio and you really so notice it. if you hook this thing up to a $1000 home theater system wow it kicks. 10. its really durable i have dropped this 3 times on cement, and on the grass and it still was perfect. 11. some people say that you should nt jog or exercise with it because of its moving parts and i have done every thing with this thing and i havent had anything wrong 12. reviews say not to press on the back, so i havent, theres no point and i havent done it by accident either. 13. dont pull off the blue bumpers, my friend pulled one off and its really hard to put it on again, you have to un the thing this is a really good , get one
