Summary: It died a week after the warranty expired. Need I say more??
Review: For several months, I was quite pleased with the Archos Jukebox. The sound is good, if you do as many reviewers here say and replace the junk headphones with a better-name brand. I wished it could crank a little louder; as it can be hard to hear when there's a lot of noise outside - although perhaps that lack of high volume may be better for your hearing in the long run. Battery life was decent; charging it was a breeze. Loading music onto it is about as easy as moving music from one folder on your hard drive to another.Those were my impressions three months ago. Now I'm not quite so satisfied. Only about a week after the 90-day warranty ran out, so did the life of my jukebox. It simply won't boot up, no matter how many times I try. I found the timing of this breakdown, ummm, curious to say the least. I sent an email to Archos, asking what I needed to do to get it fixed and whether they would still honor the terms of the warranty, as close as it had been to the end of the warranty period. Two weeks later, I still haven't heard back from them. A 90-day warranty says a lot about what a manufacturer thinks about his product. Completely blowing off a service request says a lot about what a manufacturer thinks about his customers. I don't know if the Creative Labs Nomad is better, but I do know that I just poured several hundred dollars down the drain to basically "rent" an Archos jukebox for only three months. And it wasn't worth it, to say the least.

Summary: I love the Archos Jukebox 6000!
Review: I received an Archos Jukebox 6000 for Christmas 2001. My husband knows what a music lover I am and thought it would be a great gift. Well, he sure was right. This jukebox is amazing. First off, it's just so easy to use. You just install the Musicmatch software, hook it up to the USB, and it adds on an extra driver letter on your computer. Putting music onto it is a snap too. You can drag and drop mp3's on your computer to the Jukebox or use the included Musicmatch software to create playlists to download to the player. It's simple to organize your music files on the Jukebox by creating folders for different genres or types of music. That was the part I was worried about since I am not a technical sort of person. But there's nothing to it. Sound quality is fine; song titles are displayed side scrolling onto jukebox's screen. And the thing is so tiny! It's so portable. Whenever I get a new cd I rip and download it to the Jukebox right away. It saves on wear and tear on my cd's and protects my collection. I can't say enough about the Jukebox 6000. It's nothing short of amazing. I guess my only criticism is that I can't play it through my car stereo since I only have a cd player in my car. It does have an optional cassette adaptor in case you have a cassette deck. But that's my lone criticism. My recommendation: Buy it!

Review: I am surprised that there are so many negative reviews posted here about this unit. I find the Jukebox 6000 operation to be very contrary to what I have read here. 1. Many reviewers state that it won't even power up. To get it to turn on, you must depress the on button for about 3-5 seconds. 2. Some reviewers complain that they can't even get their computer to run the software. I also had this problem, but I read the manual and realized that I had to insert the CD, plug the unit into the USB port, turn the unit on, and then let my plug and play feature find and install the software. Simple! 3. Other posts state that there are no instructions on how to get the songs onto the player. This is simple. The software creates an extra drive on your computer (in my case "drive E") which is the drive for the unit. With the unit plugged into your USB and turned on, just open the players drive and drag and drop your songs into the folder, shut down the drive, unplug the USB cable from the player, turn it on (by holding down the "on" button for about 3-5 seconds) and walah, there are your songs. You can even create folders on the drive i.e. Rock, Country, and drop your songs into these folders for easy organization. 4.Many reviewers state that the unit skips a lot. To date, I can honestly say that it has not skipped on me, however, in all fairness, I must confess that I have not put it through any major pavement pounding, so this complaint remains to be seen. 5.There are complaints posted about the remote control not functioning. From reading the insert included in the box, I have discovered that this unit originally was intended to include a remote, but because of unforeseen complications, the remote was discontinued. I really don't see where not having a remote will be a problem since the unit will, for the most part, while on your person, be within arms reach from you when listing to it. This Jukebox 6000 also has other nice features such as: collapsible headphones with the volume control on the wire, a carrying case and an extra set of rechargeable batteries. There is one complaint posted that I do agree on and that is that the manufacture should have constructed the faceplate out of metal as opposed to plastic. I have nicked my faceplate trying to get the battery cover off (located on the front of the unit) to switch batteries. However, this is a small, cosmetic matter. Finally, I would like to say that I have found the Jukebox 6000 to be an easy to use player that has served it purpose-high storage, portable mp3-just fine.

Review: Terribly pleased.! I found the archos jukebox quite easy to use. Hey, I am a tek-nickle lay person but found the instructions and functions quite comprehensive. I have had it for a little over a week and am slowly downloading music. I have 250 songs now. The sound quality is great. I ordered an extra pair of Jensen headphones that have better volume and crisper sound. I am set.. Lovin it. It frees me some space to trade in some old discs to get new ones. Awesome

Summary: problems to be aware of
Review: I returned my archos jukebox for the following reasons:
1. The power supply heated the player alarmingly; message boards have made it clear it would eventually destroy the device if not replaced.
2. Bought and returned 2 non-functioning remote controls; the problem was not the batteries as has been reported.
3. Skipped when attempting to run with it.
4. Volume control is either a 2 handed or menu-embedded operation.
None of these alone would have made me return it, but combined it was clear that this was not a well made device. In fairness I should point out I use my player mostly in the gym, and this is not the machine for that location. Best Buy gave me a full refund including the extended warranty. Bought a mpio-dmk instead and have been blown away with this very cool, tiny, simple, well made, fully functional player.

Summary: Great product, no problems
Review: I did my fair share of research and decided on the Archos Jukebox 6000 as my Christmas present. I was, and still am very glad I chose the Archos over the Nomad
I read all of the reviews here and came to a few conclusions. Some of these negative postings seem to come from either competitors or music industry folk. Either way I wasn't swayed. As soon as I opened the box I was pleased. I had no problems installing the unit to my PC, I had no problem moving songs into folders, and I had no problems with playback.
Of course there are minimal drawbacks. Only being able to fit 100 songs per folder is one. Though the more you think about it 100 songs is around 300 min. That's 5 hrs. Plenty. You can't be too active with it. But I'm not going to be needing over 100 cds for a jog. The manual isn't as bad as most say, but still isn't good. The headphones stink, but anyone who's into music usually has a nicer set, I do. Searching for a song is just as easy if you had to scan a cd player, not great, but fine with me.
That's about it. The positives of being able to have over 100 cd's is awesome. The batteries do last a long time. It is user friendly. I especially enjoy plugging it into my stereo on shuffle. It doesn't have the long pauses that a cd changer has.
Just like any new gadget it takes a little getting used to. I would wholly recommend the Archos JB6000 to anyone. I may have been, "lucky", but I don't think so.

Summary: Very Satisfied (so far)
Review: I received this unit for Christmas and I have had no problems with it. The firmware is version 5.02a, so that may be one of the reasons, since obviously others have had problems. A couple of recommendations. The version of Musicmatch Jukebox that came with it is old. Download the latest free version from the Musicmatch web site. Really is handy for creating playlists and loading on the player. I upgraded the headphones to Koss KSC35. A big improvement. I also purchased a 9v regulated charger, even though the charger that came with it worked ok for me, it did get the unit a bit warm, not hot. The manual that comes with it does need some updating. Also, visit the discussion group on yahoo for these units. Some good tips and info that the manual doesn't provide.
I'm very happy with this unit. Hopefully it will hold up. Sounds good, no problem with battery life. Only negatives from me are, update the manual, latest version of Musicmatch, and better headphones.

Summary: Look elsewhere first
Review: For the amount of money that you pay for this player, you get a lot of storage. That is the good part! If you want to easily find a song that is the bad part. You can not create your own music files, you have to use the few they provide. You can not create files under various music types (jazz, blues etc) if you do not use the list they provide, you have to scroll thru each song until you find the one you are looking for. They provide you with a case to carry the player in, but if you place it in the case, and attempt to walk, or jog with it, it will error with a hard disk error. You do have a equalizer,it is not as good as some of the others such as Intell's MP3 player. You can not get FM radio on this player. If you want to use this as a back up harddrive, it is no problem. If you want to use this as your mp3 player, I would shop around first.

Review: Great buy, you will never run out of space when you have 6 GB of space for music which can also be a back hard disk for yhou computer! The only think about it is that it is a little big and a little heavy but do not let this discourage you from buying it! The unit weighs maybe 1 1/2 lbs and it is about the size of a normal hand.

Summary: Needs updated drivers for XP, but otherwise its great!!
Review: First off, the XP driver issue probably isn't their fault. It very clearly stated on the box, 98, 98SE, 2000, and ME. It did NOT mention XP, and when I tried to install the drivers, the installation failed with XP crashing. [Somewhere else] has XP drivers, and all you have to do is download the .zip file, unzip, and copy all the files into WINDOWS/SYSTEM.... Regarding Musicmatch, which comes with the unit. I can't stand it, so I didn't bother with it. Winamp works just fine for creating/updating play lists. I moved 5.5 GB of music files over in the course of an evening, and I have a number of playlists created. (I did notice that I was receiving write errors to the jukebox if I had other USB devices running, but that isn't a fault of the jukebox, but rather the USB interface--this jukebox just begs for firewire.) Playback is superb! I was running my MP3s through my HP Jornada on a 128 MB Compact Flash card using Windows Media Player, and obviously, this blows that away. Menus are intuitive, the firmware updater worked without a hitch, and battery life is acceptable. 3+ hours on a charge. The jukebox came with 2 sets of rechargables. One pre-installed in the jukebox, and a spare set. I ditched the headphones immediately, not becuase of the sound quality, which was quite good, but because I ride the train and subway, and need ear bud earphones to cancel out the ambient noise. Bottom line is that this item is recommended. I've got a player capable of holding 1,500 MP3 files. Not. Too. Shabby.
