Summary: Good Concept - Solid performance for money
Review: This might be a premature review since I have been using the unit for a week. The pros I like-- cheap -- compact size, small as a walkman -- can be used as an extra drive to carry/store your docs -- volume is ok. I don't know why people complain. Buy a new set of headphones since the ones it comes with is pretty useless. The cons are -- resume function after unit shutdown for shuffle feature is available only if u install firmware 5.0 -- volume up and down should be +,- if hold for a long time, it is a pain finding the on button and hitting the +,- at the same time. -- case it comes with is useless. No acc. to the buttons is available. Should be a transparent case -- it does skip, not often but every once in a while so not recommended for jogging. -- Full battery charge takes at least 8 hours. A faster solution should be available. -- long term stability unknown I am on firmware 4.54a.

Summary: Could Not Get it to Work
Review: I have nothing good to say about this product. It wouldn't charge correctly, it was not visible by the USB and the documentation had no roots in reality. The technical support was non-existent. I'm a technical person and I lost hours on this before I returned it.

Review: Overall, I am very impressed with the device. I am planning to buy one for my brother as a gift. Likes 1. Small size 2. Very eay to use - I had to get used to navigate the directories with main button but once I figured out it was very easy. 3. Easy file tranfer and quick transfer from CD to MP3. 4. Capacity of the hard drive (it is quite too) 5. Cool apearance don't likes 1. Battery access - it is very challeging. I hope I do not have to change batteries often but it would be nice if it was easy 2. Headphone - the headphone sounds very cheap 3. loose feeling of the main button and a loud clicking sound it makes everytime you press it. 4. Summary: I returned the piece of junk!
Review: Cheap construction .. the battery covers are flimsy, and I though I was going to break it trying to get the batter covers off. But that's not the worst of it, expect horrible battery Life: about 2 hours on a full charge! AND, you can ONLY use the batteries that they supply with it, even though they are DOUBLE AA size! The fact that it will not work with other double A batteries seems a horrible design flaw. I think it's only good as a repository for files or MP3's, but as a practical listening device it's not very good, in my opinion. Supplied headphones are cheap and don't sound good. It doesn't appear that it has an optional car hookup power supply, which renders it nearly useless to me (with the abysmal 2 hours battery life). Others rated it high, but I don't see it. On the plus side, it's easy to use (and transfer files, with USB interface) and can store any file, not just MP3's.

Review: I got this awhile ago, and now I am glad I did -- it's much easier to put all your MP3s onto this tiny gadget than burn your music, continuously having to put in new CDs, not being able to just go away and wait. Now, I just get out a folder of my music, and copy and paste it into the Jukebox folder! I found setting up the Jukebox 6000 extremely easy; the manual was short and to-the-point. The only setback, I would say, was that I had to wait an hour for it to charge, since there was no open plug near my computer to set it up and charge it at the same time. The time it took to actually move the MP3s into the folder made up for that -- in a little under an hour, I was listening to the MP3s happily. Last night, the sound was very good. Now, the sound is quite good too, but I am noticing some static, and so I am about to go download the firmware which, as I have heard, will fix the problem. All in all, this is a great MP3 player, as well as cheaper than most of the 6+ gig storage.

Summary: Product Defective, No Tech Support
Review: I received my Jukebox, spent hours copying all of my music into the hard drive, and it worked for approximately 10 days. Now the screen on the Archos is frozen, and since my computer won't recogize it as a drive it has rendered the Archos as the most expensive paperweight I have ever bought. I have tried to call Archos during business hours (nobody answers), after hours (voice mail was full), and email (three in two weeks with no response). I'm not really sure this company even exists. It would be a very cool product if it worked.

Review: After 3 days of waiting for Archos Technical Support to call me back (Three voice-mail messages, two e-mails) I decided to send my little malfunctioning unit back to Amazon. The 6GB drive is why I bought this. Amazing price for 6GB, but the thing shuts itself off every three seconds, regardless of how long it's charged. After 24 hours of charging, you'd think it would stay on for an entire song. I gave up waiting - maybe you'll have more luck. Don't be fooled by the one star review - there is no "No Stars"

Review: Archos hasn't exactly been in the mainstream for the past few years; as a matter of fact, this is the first time I've seen one of their products, and what a product it is! 6GB! That alone would be enough to make me want to buy this beauty, but then I hear about the small size, and extra hard-drive format. My old CD-player only accepted WAV-format files, so I was constantly converting MP3s by the dozen [yes, I know what you're all saying; but, for the price, it seemed like a good value]. Now, though, I can carry around just about the only sound-format on my hard-drive. I also LOVE the fact that you can store multi-media files on it. I constantly save DLLs, .SYS, and driver files on it when I go over to work [I'm a semi-professional programmer; I work from my best friend's garage]. It also comes in handy when going to a party. Now, I just take some cables, plug them into my Archos, then into the speakers, and just stand back. The only draw-back to this product probably wouldn't be that it's not a Walkman-type device, where you can do cartwheels and still have great sound, but more in the price.

Review: First of all just to be fair i admit that i was really scared before i decided to order the unit. If you are thinking of buying the unit i don't blame you for being scared. With all of the bad reviews i read i thought ordering this unit is taking a really big chance! but then i remembered if i am not satisfied with the unit i can always return it to Amazon.com If you are thinking of buying this player i have one piece of advice: When you get it, don't start learning by yourself but read the manual. I have had this player for a few days now and i can't tell you how satisfied i am! This unit is the best possibility out there. I'm going to list the pros and cons: First a lot of people complain about shortage of battery life, I uhave used this unit everyday since i got it, each day for about 8-10 hours and returned home with more battery power to spare. Battery life is not that short and i do browse around A LOT! The player itself is a little big and heavy, but for 6GB i think this is really a minor con. I carry it everywhere i go, and its perfectly fine it fits right into my jeans pocket. The headphone that are supplied by Archos have really bad sound, so i recommend buying a pair of KOSS headphones, or any other good quality headphones. Loading Data into the player is really easy. You just plug in the USB cable that is included, and start transfering songs by copying them from one folder to your Jukebox drive. The main Button on the unit is a little cheap, but it is also a minor con. I really have no problems with this unit. I read some reviews of other people who had a lot of problems like, hard - disk failing and things like that. Maybe these people are doing something wrong, read the manual. A lot of people complained that they want a remote control, well, you could get one at the archos website. I decided to wait and see if i really need a remote, and i'm still thinking about it, but i think i don't need one because all of the songs that i load on my player are songs that i downloaded and i like, so it doesn't matter what song is on i like it. I've been looking for an mp3 player for about 5 months. I looked at all kinds of mp3 players, Creative Nomad, Intel 128mb etc. and the only player who really caught my attention was the archos jukebox 6000, because of its cheap price and the fact that it has 6GB loaded on him. I have read people write that there is a couple of seconds pause between songs and that is true, but i think that again the pros outweigh the cons. A lot of people complain about the batteries, i say: why would you even want to take out the batteries? When your batteries run out, charge them... I have loaded my entire cd and mp3 collection and still have room for A LOT MORE! Also, this player is a pretty strong player, it fell out of my hand twice, pretty hard, and nothing hppend! it kept playing!! A lot of the people who complain about the sound are people who probably didn't replace the bad headphones that come with the player and therefore have bad quality sound. I hope this review was helpfull to anyone who is thinking of purchasing this player, and i recommend it to anyone who wants a lot of memory for a good price. Summary: I'm returning my second one and getting a Nomad Jukebox.
Review: The first one took me three days to get working at all, played two songs, and then locked up. Three weeks later I still haven't heard back from Archos tech support. No matter, as Amazon did a stellar job (as usual) handling my return and I got a new one. This one worked great for two weeks (once I figured out that the only way to make a truly useful playlist was to use a text editor, and not to follow their instructions at all; this is especially important because there's almost no way to play more than three or four songs without a playlist, unless you keep all your songs in one huge directory, and you don't have all that many songs in that directory). Today, out of the blue again, it locked up. No way to reset it, nothing to do about it, can't even reformat it and start over. (And emails to Archos tech support now *bounce*.) And to think, I had hopes of moving my MP3 collection there and leaving it there, to free up a few gigs of my hard drive! I'm not going to go through this again; I'm going to move up to a more reliable unit this time. Save me, Creative Labs!
